Atletico Madrid 2-0 Getafe: Los Rojiblancos Pay Tribute To Juan Carlos Arteche With a Derby Win

Hosts overcame Los Azulones today ....

Los Azulones were comprehensively dismantled by Quique Sanchez Flores's men as Los Colchoneros displaced Barcelona from the fourth spot before the Catalans' game with Valencia later tonight. Simao opened the scoring in the first half with a fantastic free-kick and Diego Costa rounded off the victory after the break to give Los Rojiblancos the three points.

The game started with a minute of silence in honour of legendary Atletico Madrid defender Juan Carlos Arteche who passed away three days ago. Getafe were arguably the better team of the first half hour and went close on a couple of occasions through Manu Del Moral and Adrian Colunga.

Los Colchoneros' first real chance of the game came in the 32nd minute after a blunder by Getafe goalkeeper Jordi Codina, whose poor clearance rebounded off Simao and almost went in. Los Rojiblancos took the lead five minutes later when Simao fired in a marvellous free-kick to open the scoring.

The second half brought even less excitement to the demanding fans, who were forced to watch an increasingly scrappy game. Chances were few and far between in the first fifteen minutes after the break and most of the action commenced in midfield. Jose Antonio Reyes went really close in the 70th minute with a thunderous shot which fizzled wide of the top left corner of Jordi Codina's goal.

Diego Costa made sure the home fans did not wait long for another strike as he scored with a poacher's effort from just outside the goal area after a great run on the right by Juan Valera. This proved to be the final change in the scoreline as Atletico Madrid ran out winners.

Following tonight's result Los Rojiblancos displace Barcelona from the fourth place, while Getafe are sixth before the other games from this round of Primera Division. Los Colchoneros travel to Villareal in eight day and Los Azulones host Sporting de Gijon on the same day.
