It didn't take long for the first goal to be scored, as a poor clearance by the Getafe defence allowed Andoni Iraola to fire a venemous long-range effort on goal. The ball skidded several times before getting past 'keeper Jordi Cordina to make it 1-0.
Bilbao extended their lead in the 17th minute, when the referee ajudged Iker Munian to have been brought down in the penalty box. Mikel Dominguez stepped up and slotted the ball home past Cordina.
The away side almost pulled one back in the 35th minute, as Adrian Colunga beating the offside trap, but Bilboa custodian Gorka Iraizoz got a fingertip to the ball and cleared the danger away.
The second half started much like the fisrt, with Bilbao having the best chances to score. Gaizka Toquero and Fernando Llorente had great chances to score, but failed to do so.
But it wasn't until the 83rd minute that the home side put the finishing touches on their win, as Igor Gabilondo smashed the ball home into the bottom right corner to seal the three points. He had time and space to compose himself and make sure his opportunity found the back of the net.
Getafe had two glorious chances to grab a consolation goal. Colunga had his header saved by an outstanding Iraizoz save, and then when he turned provider for Miku in the box, but the striker missed the target.
