Shots on Target
Thanks for joining me for the action tonight. That was pretty fun in the end, wasn't it? Until next time...
And there's the final whistle. It's all over. And on the balance of play, Atalanta will feel they deserved that.
90' + 4'
Handanovic is still up there, but he's fouled his opposite number Consigli.
90' + 3'
Red Card Facundo Parra
Facundo parra is off. He clattered into Guarin off the ball, and the former Independiente man receives his marching orders.
90' + 3'
Guarin comes forward. He shoots, obviously. It'd deflected behind for a corner. Handanovic is up for this. The corner is too flat though and cleared. Perreira recovers it and his cross is cleared behind again.
Inter pack the box as a deep free-kick is floated in, but it's headed away before Juan's shot is blocked.
Inter pile forward but Palacio's cross drifts over everyone and out for a goal kick.
The game becoming increasingly stretched as Inter finally start to show some urgency.
Assist Walter Gargano
Goal Rodrigo Palacio
GOAL. Palacio pulls one back. Great play by Gargano, who turned well to play in Palacio inside the box. His shot was struck firmly past Consigli and Inter are back in this.
Facundo Parra very nearly makes it four. Inter again at sixes and sevens at the back, leaving Parra completely unmarked in the box, but his shot from 12 yards is turned behind by Handanovic. That should have been it.
Diego Milito has seven Serie A goals this season, one more will take him level with leading scorers Stephan El Shaarawy, Erik Lamela and Edinson Cavani. He's done little to suggest that will arrive tonight.
While Livaja replaces Zanetti in what is Stramma's last throw of the dice.
And here's another Argentinian as Facundo Parra replaces Denis.
Ricky Alvarez beats a couple of defenders but his cross is behind for a goal kick. The jig looks up for Inter.
Pereira makes an instant impact as his cross very nearly leaves Miltio a free header into an empty net.
Inter certainly needed a change. Ricky Alvarez becomes the sixth Argentinian on the pitch tonight, while Uruguayan Alvaro Pereira joins him.
Again Atalanta break, this time Carmona arrives late and his shot is deflected wide. The corner comes to nothing, but Zanetti and Nagatomo have been too far forward all evening, while Cambiasso and Gargano have done little to protect their central defenders.
Atalanta again break. Zanetti way out of position. Moralez eventually overruns it, but Inter have been poor at the back all evening. There's been way too much space for the likes of Morralez and Denis.
Penalty Goal Germán Denis
And Denis sends Handanovic the wrong way to roll in a third. 3-1.
Silvestre certainly got to the ball, but Moralez will claim he took his legs first. Perhaps harsh in Inter.
Penalty to Atalanta! Moralez broke and ran beyond Silvestre before tempting his compatriot into a poor challenge inside the area.
Inter certainly look unsure in the back four that has been forced upon Stramaccioni - nobody is taking responsibility for the runners from midfield.
Guarin plays a dangerous ball right across the Atalanta six yard box, but it's deflected out for a corner. Guarin still looks most likely to produce for the visitors.
Assist Maximiliano Moralez
Goal Germán Denis
GOAL! Denis puts Atalanta back into the lead. Moralez got in down the right his low square found his compatriot unmarked from five yards. He didn't miss this time. 2-1.
Guarin plays it wide for Palacio, whose cross-shot is over the bar. The Colombian may be prone to taking the wrong option, but he's played with a real urgency that has dragged Inter back into the game.
Goal Fredy Guarín
GOAL! Fredy Guarin appeared to be the only Inter player who realised his team were losing tonight, and he absolutely smashes a free-kick through Consigli to make it 1-1.
Consigli perhaps should have done better, but that was some strike from Guarin.
Yellow Card Federico Peluso
Neat move from Inter as Cassano and Milito combine before Guarin is tripped by Peluso, who will go into the book.
Yellow Card Walter Gargano
Cassano takes, but his effort curls over the bar.
Guarin wins a free-kick just outside the box. Win being the operative term, as there appeared to be little contact there.
Palacio's nose is pouring with blood. He appears to be claiming Raimondi landed an elbow. There was certainly contact as that corner came in. The Atalanta man thrust his elbow in the Argentinian's direction and smashed him full in the face with a flying forearm.
Guarin shoots from range again. This time it deflects wide for a corner. But that's cleared. The Colombian might want to try passing once in a while.
The visitors need to take control. Jonathan aside, who’s only played once, Javier Zanetti is Inter’s most consistent passer, completing 89% of his passes in Serie A this term. Getting him more involved seems like a good idea.
And we're off. Again. Inter need to pick up here - Juventus’ thrashing of Pescara extended the gap at the top at four points.
And the whistle goes for half time. Palacio has had two good chances, but Inter are fortunate to only be one behind at the break. Stramma has work some to do; more of the same will suit Atalanta coach Colantuono.
Moralez is terrorising Inter. This time he finds space and plays it wide to Schelotto before the ball is crossed straight back to the tiny Argentine who scuffs his shot. Should have done better, but Moralez has arguably been the best player on the pitch so far this evening.
And at the other end Cigarini's stonking 25-yarder flashes just past the post. Handanovic could do nothing but watch. Great strike. Deserved better.
Wonderful play from Cassano on the edge of the box, as he jinks and clips a ball onto the head of the on-rushing Palacio, but Consigli beats his header away. The Argentinian was under pressure, but should have equalised there.
This is better from Inter. The final ball comes to nothing, but that was their best pattern of passing so far tonight. They need to take a breath and take control of the game.
Guarin does very well on the right to beat his man and find the touchline. His pass finds Cassano inside the area, but his shot flies way over Consigli's bar.
Denis missed the easy one, so went for a more difficult effort this time as he attempts a volley from range. Same result.
And that's why Atalanta have so few goals this season. Moralez walks around the entire Inter midfield as if they weren't there and plays it wide to Schelotto; his cross finds Denis completely unmarked from six yards, and dead centre of the goal, who somehow balloons it over the bar.
Guarin breaks and Inter are three-on-three, but he doesn't appear to know what to with it, so just goes back and Inter lose the ball.
Only two teams, Pescara and Palermo, have scored fewer goals than Atalanta, who have just 10 strikes to their name this term. The hosts should be more than one up right now.
Yellow Card Carlos Carmona
Carmona goes into the book for a foul on Cassano.
Moralez in behind Inter from a simple goal kick down field. The hosts getting in behind Inter way too easily right now. Javier Zanetti might have been to blame there, though no sane person would ever believe that.
Inter completely lost at the back as Cigarini breaks Silvestre's ankles before his cross is deflected just wide of the post.
Guarin comes inside and sends a left-footed shot wide of Consigli's post. He's finding his range.
Juan sweeps up at the back, but he and SIlvestre have looked uneasy in the opening twenty minutes. With Denis positioning himself between the two defenders, neither has one man to mark; and with Moralez buzzing all around them, the Inter duo look a little lost.
And just like that, Inter were almost level. Silvestre's header from a corner found Palacio, whose own header from six yards was well blocked by Consigli.
Inter started the game well, but it's been all Atalanta in the last ten minutes as Schelotto is the latest to see his long-range effort sail over the bar. Calm down, says Stramma.
Cigarini shoots from outside the box, but Handanovic watches it safely over his crossbar.
Cassano pounces on a Raimondi's defensive error and claims to have been brought down by Consigli, but the Atalanta keeper appeared to have taken the ball well before the man.
And having said what I said a couple of minutes ago, Moralez' diving header flashes wide.
Moralez dances around Cambiasso on the touchline before his backheel creates space for Carmona to cross. Inter need a breather.
What a difference a goal makes.
Atalanta dealt well with balls into their box; Inter have not. You can't imagine Juan or Silvestre will be concerned with tiny Maxi Moralez in the air, which begs the question of just who was supposed to be picking up the runner from deep?
Peluso delivers another cross that flashes across the Inter goal before it comes straight back in for Denis to volley straight at Handanovic. Inter struggling for a minute here. Atalanta smell blood.
Assist Federico Peluso
Goal Giacomo Bonaventura
GOAL! Atalanta lead with their first effort on goal. Peluso's whipped cross was perfect for Bonaventura, whose downward header beat Handanovic
Atalanta very compact and look intent on playing on the counter tonight. Juan and Silvestre can definitely be gotten at.
And Inter have gone with a back four tonight as they're without both Andrea Ranocchia and Walter Samuel. Old School.
Watch out for little Maxi Moralez. He may not have Martinez and Silva to work with like he did in that wonderful Velez side, but he does have, umm, Denis. Silver linings and all that.
Guarin breaks down the right and hammers in a low cross towards Cambiasso, but it's cleared before Milito's shot is blocked.
Inter break with Palacio before Cassano's through ball goes nowhere. Cassano averages 2.5 key passes per game, you know, and he completes 1.4 through balls per game. That one wasn't quite complete, so we still have just under one and half through balls to come from him. That's how it works.
And we're off!
Footballers always cover their mouths when they speak to each other these days. Shame, I don't want to miss a word Antonio Cassano says.
I actually did some research for this by the way, so I have some brilliant(ly boring) stats for you throughout the evening.
Atalanta: Consigli; Raimondi, Stendardo, Manfredini, Peluso; Schelotto, Carmona, Cigarini, Bonaventura; Moralez; Denis
Anyway, the teams are in. Inter: Handanovic; Silvestre, Cambiasso, Juan Jesus; Zanetti, Guarin, Gargano, Nagatomo; Palacio, Milito, Cassano
Inter are without Wesley Sneijder, so creative burden will fall upon the rat-tailed Rodrigo Palacio and Antonio Cassano. Maybe Sneijder can tweet about the game? Oh, wait, no he can’t.
Atalanta, meanwhile, are unbeaten in their last four matches - a run which included a narrow win over third-placed Napoli.
Let’s hope this is a good one. Inter are in sensational form right now, having won their last six Serie A games on the trot. They’ve also won their last ten away games in all competitions.
Evening, all. Welcome to Goal.com's LIVE text commentary on tonight’s Serie A clash between Atalanta and Inter. My name is Rupert Fryer and I will be guiding you through the action this evening.
