That's all we have time for from the early Premier League kick-off, which ended in stalemate between Aston Villa and Newcastle, meaning that the hosts will take a short-lived seat on the top of the league table. I've been Simon Harrison and I hope to see you again next time.
Siem de Jong went closest for the Toon, forcing a good save out of Guzan, Newcastle enjoyed the better of the second half until Williamson's dismissal. Half chances aplenty, but there wasn't the quality on show - Villa miss Benteke while Newcastle need to bring in additional reinforcements.
FULL TIME! It stays goalless at Villa Park, with Aston Villa and Newcastle playing out a rather drab contest. The goalkeepers had little do to, despite both outfits having dominant spells, before Mike Williamson was sent off late on for his second bookable offence.
90' + 4'
Agbonlahor tries to win a header over Janmaat, but the Englishman is penalised for pushing the Dutchman. Heavy rain is effecting the final couple of minutes, with Villa desperately pushing forward. Off the ball, Gouffran lands awkwardly on his lower back and stays down.
90' + 2'
90' + 2'
Ayoze Perez is withdrawn by Pardew, despite having only been on the field for ten munutes or so. Steven Taylor is introduced, as Villa go on the attack. A deep free-kick is floated into the box, but De Jong beats Baker to it and concedes a corner!
90' + 1'
Yellow/Red Mike Williamson
90' + 1'
RED CARD! Williamson receives his second yellow card in the first of four minutes of stoppage time. The central defender has no complaints, bringing down Delph due to simply not being able to get out of the way.
After a stoppage in play, due to Villa fans behind the goal refusing to give Colback the ball, Guzan is able to punch away a Newcastle corner. There isn't long left, but the Toon are in the ascendancy.
Good save from Guzan! Ayoze and De Jong combine well, before the Dutchman fires a powerful effort straight at the goalkeeper! Guzan can't hold, but pounces on the loose ball at the second attempt! The away fans start making plenty of noise again!
Westwood flights in the resulting free-kick, but Janmaat is the man who gets closest to it! Nobody makes contact, ending up in a Newcastle goal-kick. It's a cagey end to proceedings, with neither outfit wanting to lose now we're at this stage of the game.
Yellow Card Mike Williamson
There's less than five minutes left of normal time, with neither side appearing to have the tools required to find a winner. Carlos Sanchez is booked for a cynical challenge, before Williamson joins the Colombian for an off-the-ball tug on Bent.
Yellow Card Carlos Sánchez
Big chance for Ayoze! Cabella sets back a pass to the advancing Dummett, before the left-back whips in a dangerous cross to the back post! Baker misses the header, meaning that the former Tenerife man is slightly unsighted! He swings a leg at it, but blazes way over!
Cissokho slowly walks to the bench, after deciding that he isn't able to continue. Nathan Baker warms up and is quickly slotted into the back four, but Newcastle might feel as though they can exploit the new substitute before he can settle into the pace of the game.
Play is briefly stopped, due to Cissokho landing awkwardly on his ankle following a header. Ten minutes remain for either side to find an opening goal, but neither goalkeeper has had a great deal to do in the second half. Janmaat cuts in well from the right once again, but Delph dispossess him brilliantly as the Dutchman looks to shoot.
Bent goes close! Delph drives well from the centre of midfield, before clipping a left-footed cross into the penalty area! The former England international meets it, but can only loop the ball onto the roof of the net! In retrospect, the linesman had his flag up, so it wouldn't have counted anyway.
Newcastle also make an offensive change, replacing the hard-working Riviere with Ayoze Perez. The Spaniard can provide plenty of positive running, but also has the lethal touch in front of goal when asked. With not long left on the clock, the substitutes will have to start well to have an impact.
Villa win a free-kick 25 yards from goal, allowing for the hosts to load the box. Before the dead ball is taken, Bent is brought into the fray in place of Richardson. The poacher could have a profound impact on this game! Senderos rises well at the back post, but loops his header high and wide.
Darren Bent is now the man Lambert is turning to and rightly so. Villa have mustered up plenty of half chances, but nobody on the field has the goalscoring instinct required to translate them into goals.
Westwood releases Weimann, but the Villa forward is flagged offside and has to watch his mouth given his earlier booking. With narrowly over a quarter of an hour left to play, Villa are sitting a little deeper courtesy of Sanchez helping to shore up the midfield.
Siem de Jong
De Jong takes to the field in place of Anita, which probably spells out that Pardew isn't happy to settle for a point. This game is ready for the taking from either side, with neither coach believing that a loss should be on the cards this afternoon.
After appearing to control a crossfield ball with his arm, which the Austrian forward was penalised for, Weimann is booked for dissent. De Jong is stripped off and ready to go, with the Dutchman possessing the technical ability to make a difference.
Yellow Card Andreas Weimann
Yellow Card Philippe Senderos
Senderos is now given a yellow card, for bringing down Riviere off the ball. It's end-to-end stuff, but there really isn't the quality on show for either side to stamp their authority on the match.
Sanchez clips a brilliant pass over Dummett to find the chest of Hutton, who can't quite hook a cross into the six-yard box. Villa win the corner, but Westwood's delivery is absolutely terrible. The home fans applaud the Colombian's first contribution in their colours.
N'Zogbia is replaced by Carlos Sanchez, with the Frenchman's earlier yellow card perhaps making Lambert's mind up for him. With the former Elche man plying his trade as a central midfield presence, Villa might be switching to a 4-3-3.
A few corners in quick succession, as Pardew's men look to continue their good start to the second half. Carlos Sanchez is warming up for the hosts, with the Colombia international being prepared for his Villa debut.
What a chance for Williamson! Cabella picks up possession at the edge of the box, before clipping a brilliant ball towards the back post! The former Wycombe man watches it all the way, but attempts a volley rather than a header! He misses the ball entirely, much to the amusement of the home fans. He had too long to watch it and over-think, perhaps.
Newcastle are growing into the game more, with Villa giving the ball away needlessly throughout play since the restart. Riviere is picked out by another cross, but fails to turn an acrobatic effort towards goal! Agbonlahor is given a warning by the referee after shoving Williamson to the ground.
Janmaat goes close! The Netherlands international cuts inside from the right-hand side, before unleashing an effort across goal with his left foot! It whistles narrowly over the angle where post meets crossbar! Guzan wasn't getting there.
Siem de Jong begins his warm-up for the away side, as Pardew might just be starting to tire of the lack of presence the Toon have in forwards areas. Riviere has worked incredibly hard, but possession isn't sticking to the former Monaco striker.
A couple of half chances already in this second half, with Newcastle seeing the early possession. They certainly look rejuvenated, but Riviere is still cutting an isolated figure at the head of the Toon attack.
Janmaat is denied by Guzan! Colback's deep free-kick is nodded back across goal by Williamson, providing an opportunity for the former Feyenoord man! The Dutchman gets his head on it, but can only direct straight at Guzan, who tips over for a corner - which is cleared.
Yellow Card Charles N'Zogbia
N'Zogbia picks up the first yellow card of the game, as the former Wigan forward rakes his studs down the back of Cabella's calf. It wasn't a nice one whatsoever from the Frenchman, who apologises to his compatriot.
Williamson looks for a lofted pass over Vlaar, which Riviere attempted to run on to, but the Dutchman just about manages to put in a defensive header. Weimann then tries to break, but slips as he attempts to shift play over to the right-hand side. The atmosphere has gone a little bit flat at Villa Park.
No changes for either side, unsurprisingly, due to a solid first half from both outfits. As we progress, offensive changes may need to be made, as applying the finishing touch hasn't been either team's strong suit. Partly, perhaps, down to the absences of Christian Benteke and former striker Loic Remy for rather different reasons.
We are back underway! Both sides will still feel as though they can go on to win this game, though thus far the lethal touch has escaped them. The Magpies need to take at least a point from this afternoon, as something of a confidence boost if nothing else.
Pardew's men are pressing well and making blocks when required, with Krul called into rare action in between the sticks. Guzan has had more to do, but Newcastle's offensive four aren't combining to great effect. Be sure to rejoin us in a quarter of an hour for all of the second half action!
HALF TIME! It's goalless at Villa Park, but we haven't been short of chances! The hosts have looked very dangerous on the break, with both Hutton and Cissokho offering plenty of energy on the overlap. Riviere hasn't had much service for Newcastle, who faded during the last ten minutes of play.
45' + 1'
N'Zogbia feeds Hutton, who darts inside and sends Anita the wrong way with a clever body feint. The Scot dips a cross into the back post area, but there's nobody from the home side to meet it.
Brilliant play from Westwood! A clearance down the line is controlled on Westwood's knee before the midfield flicks a pass around the corner to N'Zogbia! The Frenchman drives inside and tries to find Weimann, but Newcastle press well to force their former winger wide.
Hutton covers across excellently from the right-hand side to defuse a dangerous situation for Villa, before being adjudged to have been fouled by Janmaat. The Scotland international limps back into position, but there isn't much wrong with him. Only a few minutes until the break now.
Weimann tries to shoot from 25 yards, ignoring two clear options on his left-hand side. Off-the-ball, Cabella takes a long while to get back to his feet after seemingly being caught in the face by N'Zogbia's hand. There doesn't appear to be a lot in it, but the Frenchman stays down long enough for his team to put the ball out of play.
Agbonlahor is found by an excellent cross from the left by Delph, but the Englishman isn't able to get enough contact on his header to place the ball into the bottom right corner! Villa are looking dangerous on the break, but their leading Premier League goalscorer should have done better there.
Despite all of the pressure on both goals, both 'keepers have only been forced into very routine saves. Both Agbonlahor and Riviere haven't been given good enough service to have a fair chance to put their team ahead.
N'Zogbia breaks to the byline once again, but Colback tracks back excellently to deny the former Newcastle man. Villa win the corner, allowing for their big central defensive two to come forward, but Janmaat beats Cissokho to the header to clear. Riviere breaks, but is stopped by a firm sliding challenge from Richardson.
Slightly over ten minutes until the break, with this contest incredibly hard to call. Neither appear to have the cutting edge required, either on the pitch nor on the bench. Both sides' offensive weapons are slowly blunting themselves after smashing themselves against the opposition defence with no joy.
Riviere has half a chance! Cabella manages to slide a pass in behind Senderos for the former Monaco man to chase! He goes to ground in order to get a shot away, but from a tight angle can only send the ball straight at Guzan, who gets down well to smother.
Half an hour has passed and this game is still crying out for a goal. Neither side is willing to commit too many players forward to leave them short at the back, but Villa break upfield. Delph creates a yard of space on his left foot to shoot, but the former Leeds youngsters blazes over the crossbar!
Weimann delivers a teasing ball right across the length of the six-yard box, but nobody is present to slide in and poke it home! Villa are whipping far more telling balls into the opposition penalty area, but as of yet they haven't fallen to a claret and blue shirt.
Delph plays an excellent ball in behind the Newcastle lines for Richardson to chase, but Colback tracks his man and clears. The ball is whipped back into the box, with a half chance for Agbonlahor, but Janmaat slides in well to make a vital block!
Riviere continues to have to come deep to find the ball, giving the Frenchman plenty of running to do. Newcastle are looking the more likely to make things happen, but Villa haven't surrendered any real chances on Guzan's goal. Gouffran sees a shot blocked by Hutton, before the rebound is sent bobbling wide by Cabella!
A poor backpass from Hutton allows for Riviere to hopefully chase the ball back towards Guzan, but the USA international hoofs upfield before the former Monaco man can get a touch of the ball. The Frenchman has been busy, but hasn't had much good service.
Sissoko wriggles through a gap in the centre of midfield, muscling past Westwood and Delph before being pulled back by the former Crewe man. Mike Dean gives the Magpies a set piece opportunity from 25 yards. The former Sunderland midfielder blasts high into the stands.
Sissoko appears to be shifted over to the right-hand side in order to track the gallivanting runs of Cissokho, leaving Cabella to sit more centrally in attacking midfield. Tracking back certainly isn't the best side to the latter's game.
Colback concedes a free-kick from 25 yards, chopping down his man. N'Zogbia tries his luck after a well-rehearsed dead ball routine, but swerves the ball narrowly wide of the right-hand post! Krul was worried there!
Newcastle continue to see more of the ball, but Agbonlahor and N'Zogbia have shown promise on the break. The Mapgies work possession out to the right-hand side for Cabella, with Riviere darting in front of his man at the near post expecting the ball, but the former Montpellier man's cross is awful.
Much to the delight of the home fans, Vlaar is slowly back to his feet and runs off his knock on the touchline. On-field, N'Zogbia drives down the right before jinking inside Dummett, but the Frenchman is penalised for shoulder barging into the covering Williamson.
Gouffran manages to win a corner from a slipping Senderos. Cabella is the man to take, lofting it into the near post area. Janmaat gets the flick-on, but Gouffran can't apply a finish at the back post! After the Frenchman innocuously clashed with Vlaar in the process of his terrible effort, the Dutchman goes down holding his knee.
Cissokho marauds down the left flank once again, before fizzing in a threatening cross, which Krul has to be at his best to race out and smother at the first time of asking. The Valencia loanee is having some joy against Janmaat thus far.
N'Zogbia nods narrowly over! Cissokho delivers from the left-hand side, whose looping cross finds the Frenchman at the back post! The former Wigan man tries to lift a header over Krul and inside the far post, heading back across goal, but the ball lands on the roof of the net!
Cabella chops inside before sliding a pass into the path of Janmaat. The Dutchman whips in a searching cross to Riviere, but Westwood is able to get rid. Newcastle are looking much more threatening in the opening stages. Colback launches in a free-kick from deep, which Williamson can only meet and steer well wide with his head.
Dummett's poor touch allows Villa's counter to develop, with Agbonlahor cutting in from the left flank and shaping to shoot. Williamson slides in to make a good block, sparing his defensive teammate's blushes somewhat. A lively start at Villa Park!
Dummett overlaps down the left-hand side excellently, before whipping in a devilish cross to the back post. Cissokho is forced to hurriedly hack behind for a corner. Newcastle play it short, but an eventual shot is deflected, looping comfortably into Guzan's arms - allowing the hosts to break.
The Magpies continue to look composed on the ball, with Pardew's men trying some quick triangles in forward areas. Gouffran tries to switch play and find Cabella on the right, but the Frenchman overhits it and fails to find the chest of his compatriot.
Vlaar starts as he means to go on, shielding the ball out of play excellently under pressure from Riviere. Newcastle have the early possession, with Villa happy to sit back and look to break with their lively midfield runners.
We are underway in the first half at Villa Park! The home side struggled somewhat at home last season, with this afternoon constituting an excellent chance to kick-start their campaign. Lambert's men are in their claret and blue strip, while the Toon are in their customary black and white stripes.
We're not far away from kick-off now, with both the hosts and the Magpies coming out into the afternoon air. The Premier League's early game is about to get started, with the two competing sides seeing this as a realistic opportunity to take a much-needed three points!
Only ten minutes until the two teams will be making their way out into the turf, victim of plenty of expectation. New Villa signing Carlos Sanchez is on the bench, following a solid World Cup campaign with Colombia. Plenty of exciting talent has been brought into Pardew's side, leaving Villa captain Ron Vlaar to try and keep things watertight at the back. Be sure to stick around for all of the action!
Newcastle substites: De Jong, Perez, Haidara, Elliot, Obertan, Taylor, Abeid.
Newcastle starting line-up: Krul; Janmaat, Williamson, Coloccini; Dummett; Colback, Anita; Cabella, Sissoko, Gouffan, Riviere.
Aston Villa substitutes: Sanchez, Baker, Bacuna, Cole, Bent, Given, Grealish.
Aston Villa starting line-up: Guzan; Hutton, Vlaar, Senderos, Cissokho; Westwood, Delph; Weimann, Richardson, N'Zogbia; Agbonlahor.
TEAM NEWS: Emmanuel Riviere will continue to search for his first Premier League goal as a lone forward, with new signing Remy Cabella aiming to continue to excite on the right-hand side. No changes for Pardew's outfit either, after a very impressive performance which pushed Man City to the wire. Jack Colback and Vurnon Anita are partners in shielding the back four. Siem de Jong takes a place on the bench again.
TEAM NEWS: Paul Lambert's side is unchanged from the one which defeated the Potters on the opening weekend. Alan Hutton continues with his shot at redemption at right-back, while loanee Aly Cissokho retains his place on the other side of defence. Charles N'Zogbia, Kieran Richardson and Andi Weimann provide the offensive midfield running to support Gabby Agbonlahor.
I'm Simon Harrison and I will be keeping you up to date with all of the action from Villa Park, as the hosts attempt to keep their winning run going. With both coaches confident with their previous starting line-ups, there isn't much in the way of change - if it isn't broken, don't fix it. At the moment, the Toon sit bottom of the league, but given we're in the embryonic stages of the campaign, it isn't a reflection worth paying any attention to.
Hello and welcome to live coverage of Aston Villa versus Newcastle United, as both sides look to kick on from promising opening games and grab some more early points. While the Magpies may have lost to Man City, there were plenty of positives for Alan Pardew to take - while Paul Lambert's men managed to defeat Stoke City courtesy of an Andi Weimann strike.
