And that's all from Villa Park this afternoon. Thank you for joining us for this LIVE play-by-play coverage. Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
Pardew, though, will be delighted to see his side move into the top half of the table. There was much criticism over the Magpies' inactivity in the transfer market, but seven points from their first four games will please everyone on Tyneside.
After their promising start to the season things are looking much gloomier for the Midlands outfit. They next face Lambert's old club, Norwich, in a game you feel they must get a positive result from.
It was a thoroughly entertaining, end-to-end affair, but in the end it's Alan Pardew's men who take the points, and Villa have now lost three Premier League games on the trot. Newcastle, meanwhile, make it back-to-back wins.
That's FULL-TIME at Villa Park! The hosts couldn't get the ball into the box and Newcastle run away with a fine 2-1 win here this afternoon.
90' + 4'
Debuchy concedes the foul and Guzan launches it forward, but Tiote and Sissoko clear. Villa float it up again but it's put out for a throw. Last chance, surely now...
90' + 3'
Delph is unhappy with Ben Arfa after it looks like the Newcastle man blocks his run, but Newcastle have the throw and have little time to kill now.
90' + 1'
Yellow CardYoan Gouffran
90' + 1'
Gouffran concedes a foul in midfield and it's worked to Vlaar, whose powerful shot is blocked and Newcastle break. Cisse charges into the area but can't work space to shoot and they eventually win a throw.
Kozak is caught offside, giving Newcastle the chance to kill some time as the board goes up indicating their will be four added minutes here.
Villa are in possession at last, and Lowton launches it forward for Benteke, who wins it in the air but it goes through to Krul. Into the last minute of normal time at Villa Park.
Gouffran collects the ball 20 yards out with his back to goal, and tries a reverse pass into the path of Ben Arfa, but it's too hard and the ball rolls out for a goal kick.
Ben Arfa goes down in the penalty area under pressure from Clark after another driving run forward, but the referee says no and play goes on. Not long left for Villa to get back in this, but it's all Newcastle at the moment.
Gouffran picks the ball up in the Villa half again and breaks forward before trying a shot with the outside of his right foot from 20 yards, but it's straight at Guzan.
There's a brief respite as Newcastle have a free kick in their own half, which Krul launches forward, but Vlaar does well to clear with Cisse putting real pressure on the defender.
Chance! Delph - who has also been impressive today - has the ball in midfield and, with Newcastle backing off, he tries a low long-range effort which skips just past Krul's post.
Substitute Cheikh Tiote has plenty of space in midfield so tries an audacious shot from 35 yards, which Guzan has to come down low to gather.
Chance! Gouffran has plenty of space to stride forward along the right and floats a cross over for Cisse, who meets it at the far post but can only head low into the side netting. The momentum has really changed since the goal.
Ben Arfa switches flanks and breaks down the left, cutting into the area and getting to the by-line before winning a corner off Vlaar. He's been superb today.
That's a real blow for the hosts, who you would have fancied to go on and win the game after they dominated until the equaliser.
GOUFFRAN SCORES!! Newcastle are back in front!! And again it's Ben Arfa who's involved, as he skips in from the left-hand side before drilling a low effort across goal. Guzan gets low to save but parries it straight into the path of substitute Gouffran, who clinically hammers it home.
Cabaye fails to keep control of the ball on the right and it runs out for a throw. Ben Arfa has been the far better of the two creative Newcastle midfielders today.
Yellow CardMathieu Debuchy
Delph produces an excellent burst of pace to fly past Debuchy on the left, but the defender recovers well to put it out for a throw before recklessly flying in on Luna to earn himself a booking.
Seconds earlier Libor Kozak was brought on for his debut. Benteke has stolen the show, though. The atmosphere is pulsating at Villa Park and we're set for a cracking final 20 minutes or so.
Karim El Ahmadi
BENTEKE LEVELS IT!! The big striker nets another as Villa win a corner and the outswinger is met by Benteke, who gets well in front of Krul to power a header into the back of the net.
Newcastle suddenly cause havoc in the penalty area as Ben Arfa skips past Luna before driving it across the box. Anita manages to keep the ball in play before looking for Cisse, whose effort is blocked and the hosts just about survive the danger.
There's a real zip to this game now, with both sides going full pelt. It would be quite a surprise if we don't see more goals this afternoon.
Cabaye floats the corner out for Debuchy, who runs in from deep to blast a volley from the edge of the box which whistles wide of the post.
Save! Ben Arfa has been superb today, and he causes problems again, pushing forward before cutting inside Clark and hammering a left-footed effort from the edge of the box, forcing a strong save from Guzan who palms it behind.
Ben Arfa sets another Newcastle attack going and Cisse receives it on the left, looking for Remy in the box with his cross but Clark does well to clear.
Yellow CardYohan Cabaye
Sissoko muscles out Benteke to win it in the air from Guzan's long clearance before Cabaye takes out Lowton with a high challenge, earning himself a booking in the process.
What a chance! Villa should be level as Weimann gets behind Santon on the right before playing a superb low ball across the six-yard box, and Agbonlahor is first to it but his scuffed effort bounces wide of the far post.
Newcaslte have their first move forward of the half as Ben Arfa breaks down the right but Luna is there to dispossess him. Villa give it away again, though, and Remy receives the ball, firing a first-time effort straight at Guzan from 25 yards when he might have carried on his run.
Great chance for Villa as Delph and Benteke link up with some quick passes before it's played into Luna, who pushes into the area and drills a pass across goal when he had a real chance to shoot.
Delph spreads it wide to Luna on the left, but Debuchy blocks his cross attempt before forcing it out for a throw. It's been all Villa so far, though.
Agbonlahor is straight into the action, finding plenty of space to cut inside from the left before firing a shot which deflects behind. Vlaar can't quite divert the ball towards goal from the set piece and Newcastle clear.
The hosts resume proceedings at Villa Park as the second half gets underway.
We'll be back underway shortly at Villa Park. Can the hosts get back on level terms?
The telling statistic, though, is that all four of Villa's shots have been off target. But it's 50-50 in terms of possession and there's all to play for in the second half.
And that's HALF-TIME at Villa Park, with Newcastle taking a 1-0 lead into the break. The visitors started much better but Lambert's men grew into the game as the half went on, and will fancy their chances after the break.
45' + 3'
Sissoko miscontrols it in midfield but manages to lift a superb ball over for Cabaye, who gets away from Luna but drills his cross-cum-shot wide of the post and out of reach of the incoming Ben Arfa.
45' + 2'
Cisse is involved again, chasing a long ball down the right, but Clark puts it out for a throw before Antonio Luna fouls Ben Arfa out on the flank.
Cisse flicks the ball over the top looking for Remy, forcing Vlaar to put it out for a throw as we enter three minutes of added time.
The hosts are ending the half strongly but are struggling to create a clear-cut scoring opportunity. Karim El Ahmadi brings down Sissoko on the halfway line, giving the visitors a chance to slow things down before the break.
Another chance for Villa! Benteke and Westwood link up well again and the latter sends Weimann through with a fine pass. The Austrian has Agbonlahor in support but chooses to shoot early with his right and drags it disappointingly wide.
Yellow CardMapou Yanga-Mbiwa
Great chance! Lowton swings in a dangerous early ball and Krul can only get a fingertip on it, pushing it into the path of Clark who can only find the side netting.
Westwood plays it into Benteke who comes deep to receive it, and Yanga-Mbiwa comes straight through the back of the striker. The referee says enough is enough and puts the centre-back into the book.
Benteke received the ball on the left-hand corner of the area and manages to get a shot away, but Yanga-Mbiwa does well to close him down and block the effort, setting a swift break up for Newcastle as Remy bursts into the Villa half before hammering a shot high and wide from 25 yards.
Guzan launches another high ball forward looking for Benteke, but Villa never really get it under control and Newcastle are able to take over in midfield.
Ben Arfa lofts a delightful chip into the box looking for Remy, but Ron Vlaar is there to clear. It only goes as far as Cabaye on the edge of the box, but the midfielder's effort is way off target.
Yellow CardFabian Delph
That break in play has slowed the game down a touch, but Villa are still trying to press forward as they win a thow on the left, deep in Newcastle's half, but they lose out and Delph slides in hard on Ben Arfa, earning himself what is a frankly unnecessary yellow card.
Moussa Sissoko shows some quick feet to get out of a tight spot in his own half before laying it back to Debuchy, who launches it forward and Newcastle win a throw on the right-hand side on halfway.
Unfortunately for Villa, Okore is down again and this looks like the end of his afternoon as Ciaran Clark is set to come on.
Okore went down awkwardly in that challenge with Remy and is off receiving treatment, but play resumes through Guzan before the defender eventually rejoins the action.
Remy is causing plenty of problems for Lowton and Okore, and again he finds a gap between the two, but Okore shows superb pace to get back and win the ball.
Westwood advances from midfield and spreads it to Weimann on the edge of the box. He cuts on to his left and fires a shot at goal but Coloccini is there to block.
There are signs that the goal has woken Villa up a bit. The crowd is urging the home side on, and they are definitely enjoying more possession now.
Excellent defending from Yanga-Mbiwa as Benteke looks to be in behind the centre-half, but he recovers well to challenge the Villa striker and earns a free kick in the process.
Delph tries to get things going for the hosts as he pushes through the middle and looks for Weimann, who makes a fine run past the defence, but the ball is just cut out and Newcastle survive the danger.
Paul Lambert won't be happy with what he's seen so far but he can't argue with the scoreline. Newcastle have been far better in the opening 20 minutes.
GoalHatem Ben Arfa
BEN ARFA SCORES!! Newcastle are in front!! It's a fabulous piece of play from Remy that makes it as he darts past Lowton on the left and to the by-line before pulling the ball back across the area, where Cisse can't connect properly but it runs to Ben Arfa, who drills the ball into the middle of the net. A deserved lead for the visitors.
Villa don't quite look the side that beat Arsenal and gave both Liverpool and Chelsea tough games. They haven't quite found their momentum yet, as Westwood surrenders possession in midfield and Santon wins a throw on the halfway line.
And Ashley Westwood aims for the Belgium striker at the far post, but it's too hard and the ball flies straight out for a goal kick.
Delph is taken down by Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa in midfield, and the hosts have a chance to launch it into the area. Benteke is likely to be a target here...
It's been a high-tempo start at Villa Park, but no goals yet. Weimann looks to get forward down the right but ends up putting it out for a goal kick for the visitors.
Cisse is through one-on-one but the flag is up instantly for offside. The hosts really haven't got going yet. The striker has another chance straight away as Santon pulls it back from the line and Cisse flicks it wide with an outstretched right leg.
Cisse goes up for a long ball with Okore, but with no-one in support he can only head it behind for a goal kick. Meanwhile, both managers are on the edge of their technical areas dishing out the instructions.
First glimpse of Remy this afternoon as he works his way into the box with some fine footwork. There are half-hearted appeals for a penalty but it looks like the forward just lost his footing, and play goes on.
Overall it's been a much more positive start from the visitors, but that one swift move shows how dangerously quick Villa can be.
Fabian Delph slides a lovely ball through for Gabriel Agbonlahor to chase behind the Newcastle defence. Mathieu Debuchy gets back well to force a corner, where Tim Krul gathers Christian Benteke's ball in after the initial corner is cleared.
The hosts' possession is short-lived, though, as Jores Okore gives it away to Vurnon Anita. Davide Santon lofts it forward on the left-hand side but Andreas Weimann tracks back to clear from his own corner flag.
The visitors have kept the ball well in the opening moments, as Fabricio Coloccini finds Cabaye with a long ball down the middle but the visitors are forced back. Villa eventually retrieve tha ball in midfield and have a chance to make their first impression on the match.
And we're underway in the Midlands, as Newcastle get the game started.
The teams march out the tunnel to a cacophony of noise at Villa Park. We're just a couple of minutes away from the start now.
For the visitors, Alan Pardew gives a first Newcastle start to Loic Remy, while Yohan Cabaye - still on Tyneside after his touted summer move to Arsenal collapsed - also makes it into the XI.
So, Villa's new £7 million striker Libor Kozak could make his debut for the hosts from the bench, and Antonio Luna has managed to shrug off an injury to feature from the off this afternoon.

Good afternoon and welcome to LIVE play-by-play coverage of the Premier League clash between Aston Villa and Newcastle. Goals from Papiss Cisse and Yohan Cabaye earned the Magpies a 2-1 win at Villa Park last season, but the hosts will be desperate to shrug off successive defeats to Liverpool and Chelsea and recapture the form that saw them beat Arsenal on the opening day.
