Live Commentary

  • Thank you for joining me today. I hope you enjoyed the action. Farewell.
  • FULL-TIME! Arsenal complete an easy 3-0 win as they go four points clear of Everton in the race for the final Champions League spot. It was by no means a vintage Arsenal display, but it didn't need to be. Newcastle offered virtually no resistance to Arsenal's superiority and the goals of Koscielny, Ozil and Giroud could easily have been added to. Newcastle remain a club in disarray as Pardew comes under even more pressure, while Arsenal can potentially secure fourth on Sunday.
  • 90' + 2'
Late chance for Newcastle as Sissoko does well to get in behind the Arsenal defence and chip a cross towards the edge of the box, but Dummett volleys well over.
  • 90'
A minimum of three added minutes will be played. The result at this stage, though, is a formality.
  • 89'
    SubstitutionYoan Gouffran Adam Armstrong
  • 88'
Arsenal continue their search for a fourth goal. Monreal gets in behind Yanga-Mbiwa and hits a low shot towards goal, but Krul denies him with his feet. Podolski then sees an effort deflected on to the roof of the goal from the rebound.
  • 88'
Arsenal continue their search for a fourth goal. Monreal gets in behind Yanga-Mbiwa and hits a low shot towards goal, but Krul denies him with his feet. Podolski then sees an effort deflected on to the roof of the goal from the rebound.
  • 87'
Penalty shout for Arsenal as Rosicky marches into the Newcastle area and goes down after a challenge from Yanga-Mbiwa while shooting, but the referee is not interested in their protests. Rosicky had already got his shot away when the tackle came in.
  • 85'
Sanogo appears to be in on goal almost immediately after a clever pass from Rosicky, but the 21-year-old's initial run took him into an offside position, which was duly spotted by the assistant.
  • 84'
    SubstitutionMathieu Debuchy Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa
  • 84'
    SubstitutionOlivier Giroud Yaya Sanogo
  • 84'
Wenger's final change of the day sees the scorer of their third goal - Giroud - replaced by Yaya Sanogo, who has endured a fair amount of criticism since his move from Auxerre.
  • 82'
The visitors do significantly better at clearing their lines with this corner, but with only Remy anywhere near the Arsenal half, their hosts get the ball back instantly once again.
  • 81'
The corner is cleared initially by Newcastle, but Arsenal win the ball back almost immediately. The hosts hook a delivery back into the box, but Coloccini heads it behind for another Arsenal corner.
  • 80'
Excellent link-up play between Cazorla and Rosicky sees the former get down to the byline and attempt to dig a cross out, but he is forced to settle for a corner.
  • 78'
With Newcastle seemingly running out of ideas, Debuchy decides to try his luck from distance. His effort is nowhere near as good as his earlier attempt, though, and the ball is sliced well off target.
  • 76'
Luckily for Sagna, however, the free-kick delivery is terrible as the ball goes neither into the area or the goal. Instead, it sails harmlessly wide of the near post. What a waste, but it seemed to sum up Newcastle's lousy performance.
  • 75'
    Yellow Card Bacary Sagna
  • 75'
Sagna commits a foul on the right and in response the frustrated full-backs kicks the ball up in the air. That questionable decision earns Sagna a cheap yellow card.
  • 74'
    SubstitutionAaron Ramsey Tomas Rosicky
  • 73'
    SubstitutionMesut Özil Mathieu Flamini
  • 73'
Here comes a double change for Arsenal. Ozil strolls off after a good display, while Ramsey joins him in making for the bench. Flamini and Rosicky come on in their respective places.
  • 71'
Szczesny is forced to wake up again for a brief moment. The ball lands at the feet of Gouffran in the right side of the area and the former Bordeaux man cuts on to his left foot, before seeing his tame effort easily saved.
  • 70'
    SubstitutionDan Gosling Shola Ameobi
  • 69'
So close to a fourth for Arsenal! Newcastle seemingly didn't learn their lesson from Giroud's goal as Ozil was afforded so much space out on the left. The Germany star shaped to shoot and then squared a low pass across the edge of the area. Podolski arrived late on to it and stroked towards the bottom-left corner, but it goes agonisingly wide.
  • 68'
Following that goal, a banner which reads "next excuse, Pardew?" appears in the Newcastle sections of the stadium. Things aren't too great for that club at the moment, are they?
  • 66'
    Assist Mesut Özil
  • 66'
    Goal Olivier Giroud
  • 66'
GOAL!!! And there is your answer! Arsenal get their third goal of the game and unsurprisingly, two of their key men are involved. Ozil picks out a precise cross from the left and Giroud gets ahead of his marker and Krul to nod in. That is his 15th league goal this season.
  • 65'
We have just over 25 minutes to play now and Newcastle are still searching for their first goal of the day. Can they pull one back to ensure an interesting finish, or are Arsenal going to make this even more comfortable?
  • 63'
It's not like he hasn't been trying, but Giroud still can't get a goal tonight. This time, Sagna puts a calculated pass in towards the near post and his France team-mate looks set to turn it in, but the forward couldn't quite reach it. You get the feeling a third is on the horizon, though.
  • 62'
Lovely pass by Ramsey as he squeezes a reverse ball into the area for Giroud, but with Dummett right on his back, the Frenchman scuffs the shot at Krul. The assistant on that side then proceeded to flag the forward offside.
  • 60'
The visitors seem to have woken up again. They are now enjoying some prolonged spells in possession and Anita almost played a wonderful pass through for Remy, but Koscielny cut it out impressively.
  • 58'
Finally, Newcastle pose an attacking threat and what a good chance it is! Gouffran showcases his blistering pace to get in behind the extremely high Arsenal defensive line. He beats Monreal to the ball, holds him off and gets into the area. His eventual shot is hit straight at Szczesny, however.
  • 57'
Newcastle are offering absolutely nothing from an attacking perspective at the moment. They are yet to make any serious ventures into their hosts' half and they almost appear to be resigned to losing.
  • 56'
From the latest Arsenal corner, Cazorla pops up at the back post and plays a controlled first-time left-footed volley across the face of goal, but it is crucially flicked away by a defender.
  • 55'
Ozil is starting to look a little more lively at the moment. On this occasion he peels out to the left and nonchalantly plays a teasing low ball into the six-yard box for Giroud, but the France striker moved towards the back post and Coloccini mops up with ease.
  • 53'
Ozil swings the corner into the area and Newcastle's inability to clear cleanly sees the ball sit up kindly for Cazorla, who blazes a wild volley well over the crossbar.
  • 52'
From the resulting free-kick, the ball is curled over to the far post towards Sagna, but the right-back is only just beaten to the header by Williamson, who concedes a corner.
  • 52'
Ramsey appears to have run into a dark alley down the left as two defenders close around him, but he squeezes the ball between them and wins a free-kick. Very good play by the Welshman.
  • 50'
Remy thought he was through on goal there as he holds off Mertesacker and then spins around the German while receiving a pass. The Frenchman is penalised, however, as he elbow clearly connects with the Arsenal defender's head.
  • 49'
Cazorla's delivery from the corner is another good one, but the more physically-imposing Newcastle defence are able to hack clear fairly quickly.
  • 48'
Dangerous early attack by Arsenal. Monreal gets himself into a good position on the left and drills a low ball into the centre. Newcastle intercept, but they don't clear and Podolski squirms into a dangerous position before seeing the ball go out for a corner.
  • 46'
The teams are back out for the second half and Newcastle get the action back underway.
  • HALF-TIME! The referee blows his whistle to end the first half and after 45 fairly routine minutes, Arsenal take a comfortable 2-0 lead into the break. It took Wenger's men a while to get going, but Newcastle have offered very little resistance and Arsenal could end up making this a rather resounding victory if they carry on in the same manner.
  • 45' + 2'
    Yellow Card Cheikh Tiote
  • 45' + 2'
Great save by Krul! Cazorla weaves his way into the Newcastle area and then smashes a powerful attempt at goal, but the visiting keeper palms it around the post. The Netherlands international has impressed so far.
  • 44'
A typical Arsenal move packed with one-touch passes sees the hosts threatening to add a third just before the break, but Cazorla's final pass into the area for Ozil his skewed ever-so-slightly away from its intended target and they are forced to rethink their strategy.
  • 42'
    Goal Mesut Özil
GOAL!!!! Right on cue, Arsenal add a second! Giroud broke the Newcastle offside trap and raced through on goal, but there was still plenty to do. Krul saved not only his initial effort, but the follow-up attempt as well, but the Netherlands international inadvertently directed the ball to Ozil, who had a simple finish from close range.
  • 41'
Arsenal are really starting to pile the pressure on now and you wouldn't bet against them scoring another before the break at this rate.
  • 39'
There is another clever move from the Gunners. A series of well-placed, quick passes eventually sees Cazorla find space on the right. His cut-back is not up to the same standard, though, and Newcastle clear, albeit poorly.
  • 37'
Good effort by Debuchy as the French full-back steals possession from Monreal, who lost his footing about 30 yards from his own goal, and lets fly with a driven effort. It goes just wide, however.
  • 35'
Risky play by Szczesny as the Arsenal keeper receives the ball, takes his time to plot his next move and then proceeds to take on the closing-in Remy. Luckily for Arsenal, though, the Polish stopper does well and avoids humiliation.
  • 34'
    Yellow Card Aaron Ramsey
  • 34'
Tiote is invovled again, this time on the wrong end of a late challenge by Ramsey. The Wales international gets himself a yellow card for his troubles.
  • 34'
Very good effort from Tiote! The man who has still only scored one Premier League goal - which actually came against Arsenal - tries his luck with a stinging drive from at least 35 yards, but Szczesny gets his body behind it well.
  • 33'
The ball is lofted into the Arsenal area directly from the free-kick and it looks to be an inviting delivery, but Szczesny ultimately collects with ease. It is a surprise that no one was challenging the goalkeeper.
  • 32'
Poor tackle from Sagna as he takes Gouffran out from behind out towards the right wing. Newcastle unsurprisingly win a free-kick in the deep position.
  • 31'
Very good spell for Arsenal. Will they regret that miss, though? Podolski found himself presented with two great opportunities, but he was unable to make the most of either.
  • 29'
Great save by Krul! Cazorla's set-piece delivery is very good once again and Podolski - who won the corner - meets it with a powerful header, only for the goalkeeper to acrobatically palm it away.
  • 28'
There is that ball over the Newcastle defence yet again! This time Podolski is on the end of it and although he is forced a little towards the left, he clips the ball past Krul, but the effort took a slight deflection. Corner to Arsenal.
  • 27'
Koscielny is the latest person to go into the referee's book after his goal celebration. No, he didn't take his shirt off, he committed the inexcusable deed of kicking the ball into the crowd.
  • 26'
    Assist Santi Cazorla
  • 26'
    Yellow Card Laurent Koscielny
  • 26'
    Goal Laurent Koscielny
GOAL!!! Arsenal take the lead at the Emirates Stadium! From the free-kick, the ball is fired into the danger zone with pace by Cazorla and Koscielny holds off Sissoko to poke past Krul. 'One-nil to the Arsenal' rings around the stadium.
  • 25'
    Yellow Card Moussa Sissoko
  • 25'
And surprise, surprise, Arsenal finally spot the space behind the Newcastle defence. Giroud looks to get himself on the end of a lofted pass, but he is pulled back by Sissoko and he earns himself a free-kick.
  • 23'
The away side also seem to be playing a particularly high line at times. Although Giroud is not exceedingly fast, there is plenty of space to exploit behind the Newcastle defence.
  • 21'
Newcastle have looked very nervous whenever Arsenal have attacked them with pace, yet Wenger's men look strangely happy to keep their build-up tempo exceptionally slow.
  • 19'
Good work from Sissoko sees Newcastle create their first real opening. The midfield pokes the ball past Arteta before looking to jolt between Sagna and Mertesacker. The physical presence of the defenders appears to put Sissoko off balance, but he still gets a shot away; curling high and wide from 20 yards.
  • 17'
Arsenal's initial corner doesn't come to much, but after Krul's punch, Ozil sends a half-volley just wide of the right-hand post. The home side are starting to look more dangerous.
  • 16'
Another corner to Arsenal as Sagna shows excellent pace to latch on to a ball over Dummett. He works his way into space and curls an inviting delivery into the area, but again Coloccini is there, heading the ball behind this time.
  • 15'
Much better from Arsenal! Anita's shot at one end is blocked and the hosts quickly counter. Ramsey charges through the middle and slips a pass towards the area for Giroud, but unfortunately for them it is not quite accurate enough. Big let-off for Newcastle.
  • 14'
Lots of pretty passing and vibrant movement so far from Arsenal, but little substance or cutting edge. They appear fairly relaxed at the moment, although it's not particularly clear whether that is a good or a bad thing.
  • 12'
There is the first threatening passage of play from Arsenal. Cazorla does brilliantly to play a well-weighted pass in behind Dummett for Ozil and the German duly collects. With Giroud lurking in the area, Ozil smashes a low cross into the centre, but Coloccini does well to cover and cut it out.
  • 10'
The visitors have a rare venture into the Arsenal half. Gouffran finds acres of space out on the left wing, cuts inside and then crosses right-footed. Mertesacker, however, is alert to the delivery and he easily hooks the ball clear before it can land kindly for Remy.
  • 9'
A pattern certainly seems to have been established for this game. Arsenal are monopolising possession, controlling the ball with relative ease, while Newcastle target counterattacks.
  • 7'
The corner, however, is rather wasted. Ramsey floated a delivery into the danger area, but Newcastle win themselves a free-kick as Krul appears to be fouled when punching the ball clear.
  • 6'
Corner to Arsenal. Monreal did well to retain possession on the left and after a spell of twisting and turning, the Spaniard tries to squeeze a cross into the box, only for Tiote to deflect it behind.
  • 4'
Brief moment of panic for Arsenal as Gouffran looks to latch on to a lofted pass over the hosts' defence, but Sissoko - who touches the ball first - is flagged offside, before his compatriot bursts into the area.
  • 3'
The early signs from this match are a little ominous for the visitors. Arsenal are already looking confident and composed in possession, stringing together plenty of passes. That central-midfield trio for Newcastle will be in for a busy match.
  • 1'
Off we go! Arsenal start the action in London.
  • Kick-off is now just a few moments away as the two teams appear in the tunnel. Can Newcastle pick up just a second win at Arsenal since 2002?
  • One Newcastle star who will not be involved, however, is Hatem Ben Arfa. The France international is believed to have fallen out with Pardew and he has subsequently not even been included amongst their substitutes. The manager also refused to elaborate on why the winger is missing. I doubt we have heard the last of this.
  • Toon manager Alan Pardew will be back on the bench today following his touchline ban for headbutting David Meyler as they look to end a run of five successive league defeats. In fact, Newcastle won only one of their seven Premier League matches during Pardew's ban - a 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace - but perhaps even more important for the visitors is the return of top-scorer Loic Remy.
  • Arsenal will be looking to go four points ahead of fifth-placed Everton with a win today as Arsene Wenger's men hope to secure a UEFA Champions League spot for next season. Everton's defeat to Southampton ensured the Gunners have the advantage again, but can they keep their focus against troubled Newcastle?
