Live Commentary

  • Arsenal head into the Community Shield on the back of a defeat, but there are plenty of positives to take from the weekend for Wenger. They may have missed out on the trophy, but that doesn't mean that it wasn't a worthwhile exercise. For now, though, I've been Tom Maston, and thanks for joining me.
  • Arsenal cannot force one final attempt and Falcao's goal is the difference between the two sides. More importantly, Valencia are the Emirates Cup champions, with the Gunners finishing second.
  • 90' + 1'
    Yellow Card Mathieu Flamini
  • 90' + 1'
Flamini picks up a late booking for a foul on Dirar deep inside the Arsenal half. The Gunners struggling to get out of their own half as we enter the final minute of stoppage time.
  • 90'
    SubstitutionMathieu Debuchy Bellerín
  • 90'
That interception from Debuchy is his final act as he is replaced by Bellerin for the final moments.
  • 88'
Debuchy does brilliantly to cut out a crossfield pass from Germain that would have put Martial in on goal unopposed. The France right-back has enjoyed a fine debut in a defensive sense.
  • 86'
Monaco looking to see this match out now, and though they wouldn't win the trophy with this result, it would be a morale-boosting win ahead of the new Ligue 1 season which starts next week.
  • 84'
    SubstitutionGeoffrey Kondogbia Aymen Abdennour
  • 84'
    SubstitutionRicardo Carvalho Layvin Kurzawa
  • 84'
The home fans are certainly making their feelings known to Atkinson with some loud boos. Meanwhile, Monaco replace Kondogbia and Carvalho with Kurzawa and Abdennour.
  • 82'
Ramsey's low free-kick is blocked by the wall. It seems the referee originally pointed to the spot before his assistant flagged to say it was a free-kick. It's safe to say the linesman got that wrong. That shouldn't take away from some fine play from Zelalem and Akpom.
  • 81'
    Yellow Card Danijel Subasic
  • 81'
Arsenal's youngsters combine brilliantly as Zelalem plays in Akpom, and Subasic is beaten to the ball on the edge of the box. The foul seems to have taken place inside the box, but referee Martin Atkinson has only rewarded a free-kick. Controversial.
  • 79'
Arsenal' wait to win the Emirates Cup is looking likely to go on. The Gunners haven't won the competition for four years and the goal they require here is looking pretty illusive.
  • 77'
Martial looks to run at the Arsenal defence but Flamini is able to step in and make the challenge. The Monaco substitute has looked bright, though.
  • 75'
Akpom and Zelalem are involved right away as the young duo look to combine on the edge of the box, but Monaco can clear. The Gunners need some inspiration here.
  • 74'
    SubstitutionSanti Cazorla Chuba Akpom
  • 74'
    SubstitutionAlexis Sánchez Mathieu Flamini
  • 73'
    SubstitutionJack Wilshere Gedion Zelalem
  • 73'
Arsenal make a trio of changes as Wilshere, Cazorla and Alexis make way for Zelalem, Flamini and Akpom. Not the first start Alexis will have wanted as he failed to really fire.
  • 71'
    SubstitutionLucas Ariel Ocampos Fabinho
As Wilshere wins a free-kick on the left-hand side, Monaco replace Ocampos with Fabinho for the final 20 minutes.
  • 69'
Remember, Arsenal need a score draw to win the Emirates Cup, and continue to push forward in search of an equaliser. As it stands, Valencia will be the champions.
  • 67'
Oxlade-Chamberlain has certainly been bright since coming on, and he almost creates another opportunity as he cuts inside fro the right, only for his ball into Wilshere to be cut out.
  • 65'
    Yellow Card Miquel
Miquel picks up a yellow card for body-checking Germain as Monaco look to launch a counter-attack. A very poor challenge from the young defender.
  • 63'
Monaco now bring it forward through Martial, and Koscielny has to be stand up to make the challenge inside the box. Arsenal fans are starting to find their voice here.
  • 61'
Oxlade-Chamberlain comes to life as he breaks away down the right and Raggi has to be alert to stab the ball behind at the near post. Good again from the Gunners.
  • 60'
JUST WIDE! Arsenal again come forward as Cazorla nicks the ball offf Dirar inside the Monaco box, but when the ball rolls to Alexis he can only poke his effort wide off the post.
  • 58'
    SubstitutionJoao Moutinho Valère Germain
  • 58'
    SubstitutionRadamel Falcao Anthony Martial
Changes afoot for Monaco as Moutinho and Falcao are replaced. Whether we see the Colombian in a Monaco shirt again remains to be seen. Martial and Germain are the men coming on.
  • 56'
Alexis wins a free-kick 25 yards from goal, and only one man is going to step up to take it. The Chilean's effort is a poor one though and is blocked by the Monaco wall.
  • 54'
Monaco certainly aren't providing the same attacking threat in this second period, with Falcao finding himself on the periphery of things since the break.
  • 52'
Arsenal certainly seem to have more fluency in their attacking play with Alexis in a central role, but they will be keen to grab an equaliser quickly in their pursuit of the draw that they need to win the Emirates Cup.
  • 50'
GOOD SAVE! Arsenal finally call Subasic into action as Wilshere breaks into the box, but as he sends a shot goalwards, the goalkeeper does well to dive across to his left to parry. Better from the Gunners.
  • 48'
Those Arsenal changes have led to Alexis taking up a central striker's role with Oxlade-Chamberlain out on the right wing. Miquel has slotted in alongside Koscielny at centre-half.
  • 46'
    SubstitutionOlivier Giroud Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain
  • 46'
    SubstitutionCalum Chambers Miquel
  • 46'
In a bit of a surprise, Arsenal have made just two changes, with Oxlade-Chamberlain and Miquel replacing Giroud and Chambers. That means Alexis stays on for now. Monaco are unchanged as they get us back underway...
  • The two teams are back out on the Emirates pitch and we are ready to get back underway...
  • And with that the half-time whistle blows as Monaco head to the dressing rooms with a 1-0 lead. Arsenal just haven't got going, and with Alexis set to be replaced, they may struggle to get back into this one. I'll be back in ten minutes to see if they can find an equaliser.
  • 45' + 1'
Into a sole minute of stoppage time, and Monaco get another effort in on goal as Ocampos flicks Moutinho's corner just wide of the left-hand post. Arsenal's set-piece defending has been very poor.
  • 44'
Moutinho chips another delightful ball into the box looking for Falcao, and Debuchy has to be at full stretch to clear the ball from danger. Good defending from the new signing.
  • 42'
Monaco again come forward down the right but Dirar's cross is a poor one and Szczesny can collect under little pressure. Monreal is having a really disappointing match at left-back thus far.
  • 40'
Monaco do deserve their lead on the balance of play, and with Wenger saying yesterday Alexis would only play 45 minutes, the Chilean may only have just five minutes to influence the game.
  • 38'
Some boos could be heard from Arsenal supporters as Falcao celebrated that goal, and rightly so following some poor marking from the Gunners. The north Londoners haven't hit their straps as yet.
  • 37'
    Assist Joao Moutinho
  • 37'
    Goal Radamel Falcao
GOAL!!! Monaco lead and it's Falcao who is back on the scoresheet. Moutinho whips the free-kick into the heart of the area, and Falcao is totally unmarked to head in from six yards. A very simple goal.
  • 36'
    Yellow Card Jack Wilshere
  • 35'
Wilshere picks up the first booking of the afternoon as he dives in on Dirar and trips the full-back. Not the best challenge of the England midfielder's career.
  • 33'
Arsenal have kept possession quite well in midfield, and some patient build-up play almost leads to a goal as Giroud feeds Wilshere on the edge of the box, but the England man's low effort is saved by Subasic. The offside flag, though, had been raised against Giroud, so the goal wouldn't have counted.
  • 31'
Szczesny is called into action as Ferreira-Carrasco is allowed to cut inside from the right, and his low effort has to be held onto by the Polish goalkeeper down to his right.
  • 29'
Arsenal win a corner that Cazorla whips in from the right-hand side, and though Chambers catches his half-volley well, it flies over the crossbar and into the stands behind the goals.
  • 27'
The atmosphere has certainly gone a little flat inside the Emirates with Arsenal struggling to establish a foothold in the game. Not quite the showing many were expecting after yesterday's exploits.
  • 25'
Monaco again threaten as Ocampos squares the ball from the left-hand side, but Moutinho cannot poke his effort on target and Arsenal can breathe again.
  • 23'
Finally Alexis and Giroud are able to link-up as the new signing plays a fine reverse pass into the striker's path, but the offside flag is rightly shown against the Frenchman.
  • 21'
Monaco certainly seem formidable opposition when compared with Benfica, and even though Arsenal are much stronger today, it certainly seems they will have to be on their game to pick up a second victory of the weekend.
  • 19'
The game has certainly opened up somewhat and Falcao has his first chance of the afternoon as he climbs above Chambers to get on the end of a cross from the right, but his effort is wide of the post.
  • 18'
Better from Arsenal as they work it down the left-hand side before Ramsey looks to drill in a low cross, but the Welshman's ball is behind all those waiting in the middle.
  • 17'
Monaco are certainly threatening and they almost get lucky as Ferreira-Carrasco drills in a cross from his right that has Szczesny scrambling to make sure it floats over his crossbar.
  • 15'
Alexis and Giroud haven't quite hit it off as yet, with the pair not seeming to be quite on the same wavelength when they look to combine. It's only pre-season, remember.
  • 13'
Monaco get the first shot in at goal as Moutinho finds himself in space 25 yards from goal, but the Portuguese's effort is always too high and is never troubling Szczesny.
  • 12'
Though Sanchez is playing wide on the right, he doesn't look like he is going to be doing much defending. The former Barcelona man is almost playing level with Giroud in an attacking role.
  • 10'
Monaco threaten for the first time as Ferreira-Carrasco gets clear of Monreal, but Chambers gets across to clear his low cross.
  • 8'
A misplaced pass from Ederson puts Monaco under pressure as Wilshere finds space 30 yards from goal. The England man finds Cazorla but the Spaniard's low cross is blocked, and Arsenal cannot take advantage.
  • 6'
Alexis finds himself in a dangerous position for the first time in the match as he picks up the ball on the edge of the box. The Chilean does well to turn but his chipped cross is unable to find Giroud waiting in the middle.
  • 4'
Giroud is back following him some treatment and doesn't seem to be feeling any after-effects of that challenge. Alexis, meanwhile, is having his every touch cheered in the opening stages.
  • 3'
Some early concern for Arsenal here as Giroud stays down clutching his back after being caught while jumping for the ball with Carvalho. The France striker does get back to his feet but is moving rather gingerly.

Arsenal kick-off and we are underway...
  • Most of the empty seats seem to have been filled in the moments prior to kick-off and there may well be a full house at the Emirates Stadium this afternoon. Both sides are ready for kick-off in this final Emirates Cup match of the weekend...
  • The sides makes their way out onto the pitch and they get a great reception from the supporters. The weather is excellent and we should be in for an excellent match albeit a pre-season friendly.
  • The two teams are making their way into the tunnel and it is only a matter of moments until we get underway in the English capital...
  • There are plenty of supporters inside the Emirates Stadium - including a minority following Monaco - as the atmosphere builds towards kick-off. There is certainly a buzz as Arsenal fans await Alexis' first start for his new club.
  • There are only five minutes until kick-off, and Arsenal know a score draw today will secure the Emirates Cup. Valencia's 3-1 win over Benfica earlier today has put them on top of the table, and while Monaco know a win by a large margin will see them leave with the silverware, they certainly start today's proceedings as outsiders for the trophy.
  • As well as Alexis and Chambers, there is a place in Arsenal's line-up for another of their new signings as Mathieu Debuchy makes his debut at right-back. The France defender has big shoes to step into following Bacary Sagna's departure, and today should prove a good test of his credentials.
  • The main headline eminating from the Monaco line-up is a start for Falcao after appearing off the bench on Saturday. The Colombia striker missed the World Cup so he will be raring to hit the ground running this afternoon.
  • There is one name on every Arsenal fan's lips this afternoon, with Alexis set for his first start since joining the club from Barcelona. The Chile international will start on the right wing with Olivier Giroud up front. Calum Chambers keeps his place in the side from the win over Benfica, with the former Southampton youngster again deployed at centre-back.
  • Monaco: Subasic, Carvalho, Dirar, Moutinho, Falcao, Ocampos, Bakayoko, Ferreira-Carrasco, Elderson, Kondogbia, Raggi
  • Arsenal: Szczesny; Debuchy, Koscielny, Chambers, Monreal; Wilshere, Arteta; Alexis, Ramsey, Cazorla; Giroud
  • Before we go any further, the two teams are in with kick-off just over 15 minutes away...
  • Monaco, meanwhile, continued their preparation for the Ligue 1 campaign with a 2-2 against Valencia on Saturday, though most of the headlines went to Radamel Falcao as the striker made his first appearance off the bench since January. With Champions League football awaiting them this season, the principality outfit will see this as a good test of their European credentials.
  • Yaya Sanogo and Joel Campbell were the stars for Arsenal against Benfica on the opening day of the Emirates Cup while Alexis Sanchez made his debut in a late cameo off the bench. Hopes are high for another victory today with Arsene Wenger's side just 13 days from their Premier League bow against Crystal Palace on August 16.
  • Hello and welcome to live coverage of the final Emirates Cup clash of the weekend between Arsenal and Monaco. The Gunners thrashed Benfica 5-1 on Saturday and only require a score draw to secure some pre-season silverware on home turf. I'll be guiding you through all the action from north London.
