Both Arsenal's Oxlade-Chamberlain and Manchester City's Pantimilon put in good performances tonight and will have made a name for themselves as the youngsters challenge for more senior appearances.
All over here at the Emirates, Arsenal put up a good fight today, but were edged out of the semi-finals by a clinical Manchester City.
90' + 3'
A free kick from deep his floated in by Frimpong, but is cleared on the edge of the box. The ball loops up and drops into the feet of Arshavin 40 yards out, he hits the well decently and it penetrates the box but doesn't get past the keeper.
90' + 1'
Arsenal win a corner and Fabianski comes up for a late corner. The corner comes to nothing and it is cleared and it reaches Johnson, but the keeper comes in with a brave header to take the ball away from the midfielder well outside his box.
Arshavin replaces Oxlade-Chamberlain. The England Under -21 has put in a solid performance today, outshining most of if not all of the other players on the pitch.
Goal Sergio Agüero
1-0!! Manchester City make the breakthrough thanks to Aguero.
A good run out for Hargreaves, but is replaced by the Razak as he was beginning to lose a yard of pace out there.
Oxlade-Chamberlain again has an attempt as a corner is cleared to the edge of the box. The young winger doesn't really strike it cleanly and Pantimilon collects gratefully.
Gervinho cuts across the edge of the box, skipping over challenges nicely but when it comes to him attempting his shot it all goes wrong and the ball us nowhere near to troubling the goal.
Benayoun draws Toure and Onouha to the edge of the box and plays it into Chamakh who is running across the face of goal but the pressure makes from Savic is enough and he spurns a chance from 6 yards out.
Man City look for a way through and as Dzeko's run is cut off the ball bounces out to Hargreaves who lines up for a shot from 35 yards, his effort ends up flying way over the bar though.
Zabaleta overlaps Savic on the left and puts in cross from the byline into Dzeko on the near post. The delivery is just behind the big striker, but Dzeko tries to rescue it but fails in his attempt and it rolls wide off of his foot.
Adam Johnson plays a through ball into Aguero, who gets the run on the Arsenal defence on the counter attack. But as he attempts to cut back in he looses control of the ball and Koscielny cleans up.
Yellow Card Owen Hargreaves
Joe Doyle, our man at the game, adds an insight to the match: Arsenal have continued to dominate after the break with Oxlade-Chamberlain the standout player so far for the Gunners. He has Zabaleta on the run right there, not sure where he was going, but his effort is palmed out by Pantilimon.
Oxlade-Chamberlain again putting pressure on the goal, firstly after taking on Dzeko to put in a dangerous cross and then cutting in from the right and unleashing a great shot, but Pantilimon manages to punch both clear.
Dzeko isn't closed down, and turns 25 yards out to unleash a shot. It's just wide but it had Fabianski scrambling.
Arsenal get us back under way, the first half wasn't the exhibition of perfect football we come to expect from these two, but it was competitive so lets hope this follows form but gives us some goals.
Oxlade-Chamberlain has also been important for Arsenal as his speed and skill has caused Savic and Zabaleta no end of trouble down that right wing.
Half-time. Arsenal may have just edged this half but I'd say going in equal is about right. Pantilimon has been good when called upon firstly with that close range attempt from Park and then Oxlade-Chamberlain's strike from just outside the box.
Frimpong brings down Dzeko as he looks to release an advanced Aguero. The Arsenal midfielder really is getting around the field today, Man City players will certainly know he's on the pitch.
Both teams are still attacking, but with limited success. Both defences are holding up well without much support from the midfielders in front of them.
Our man Joe Doyle comments on Mancini's early change: It looked for a moment that Nasri was going to be replaced there, and there were plenty of boos from the home support, but Kolarov is the one being sacrificed for Sergio Aguero, and he doesn't look happy about it.
Oxlade-Chamberlain causes the opposition defence yet more trouble putting the ball behind the Zabaleta, but Savic who was central comes across to cut off the winger.
Oxlade-Chamberlain makes a good solo run down the right wing, he plays a one-two with Chamakh who is just inside the City box. The winger fires a shot first time into the top right hand corner, but Pantilimon makes his second fantastic save of the game to keep the scores level.
Benayoun gets the ball on the left hand side of the box and plays it into the middle to Coquelin. He is quickly closed down and snatches at the shot, luckily it gets a deflection and they get a corner. No danger arises from the corner.
Coquelin has gone down and looks in some pain after De Jong went down after a tackle and landed on his leg. The youngster is now up but receiving treatment on the sideline. I'm sure he'll soon be back on the pitch.
Dzeko makes an outstanding pass on the turn for Johnson to run on to on the right, he collects the ball and draws it back to the edge of the box to return the favour to Dzeko, who has made a run from the half way line. Unfortunately he looses his footing and the ball ends up in Fabianski's arms without any real threat on goal.
Miguel struggles again, this time with Dzeko who twists and turns to get round the young defender, he puts in a good cross but it is headed out of the box by Koscielny. The ball comes to Zabaleta who attempts a drive from range but it goes wide of the goal.
More from our man, Joe Doyle, Live at the Emirates: Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is looking lively on the ball for the hosts, and causing problems for City. He goes on a fine run but is crowded out as he reaches the penalty area.
Arsenal nearly score but Pantilimon manages to stop a close range shot from Park who tried a tap in at the back post, after Coquelin produces a great cross behind City's back line.
Johnson has the first chance of the match, he cuts in from the right in front of Miguel and unleashes a shot which is dipping but is just over the bar.
We can hear from our man Joe Doyle, who is live at the Emirates: Samir Nasri is, as expected, coming in for plenty of abuse from the Arsenal fans, with 'Stand up if you hate Nasri' bringing every Arsenal fan to their feet.
Oxlade-Chamberlain attempts to cut inside to latch on to a lofted pass from the middle of the park but Savic does well to stop the threat.
The first touch of the game is met by a chorus of boos as the home crowd welcome back Nasri to the Emirates.
And Manchester City get us under way in this Carling Cup tie.
A long ball from Dzeko reaches Johnson on the edge of the box as Man City counter. He holds up the ball and swivels and makes a good pass to Aguero who is one on one with Fabianski. As expected the Argentinian slots home with ease.
Arsene Wenger has confirmed that he is looking to play a 4-4-2 formation tonight, with Park and Chamakh playing for the opportunity to earn themselves a regular place in the side.
Arsenal are tonight making their ninth successive appearance in the quarter-final stage of the Carling Cup, which is a record for the competition.
Samir Nasri returns to the Emirates today, and earns a role in the starting XI against his former club.
Manchester City starting XI: Pantilimon; Onouha, Savic, Kolo Toure, Zabaleta; De Jong, Hargreaves; Johnson, Nasri, Kolarov; Dzeko. Subs: Taylor, Richards, Bridge, Aguero, Suarez, Rekik, Razak.
