Player Ratings: Estonia 2-2 Netherlands

Goal was on hand to witness a famous point for the hosts, as two super strikes by midfielder Konstantin Vassiljev ended Oranje's 100 per cent qualifying record

By Simon Harrison

  • Sergei Pareiko

    Sergei Pareiko

A warrior's performance from the veteran, as he pulled off several great saves to deny Arjen Robben, before picking up a yellow card for ridiculous time-wasting in the late stages.

  • Dmitriy Kruglov

    Dmitriy Kruglov

Struggled in the first half, against the lively Robben, who would cut inside his marker again and again. Had more luck in the second half, keeping Robben a little quieter thanks to Lindpere's defensive help.

  • Enar Jaager

    3.00

    Enar Jaager

A solid performance from the right-back, as Lens struggled to get into the game, or put in any meaningful deliveries. Was posed more problems by Kuyt, who managed to deliver several times from the left in the final ten minutes.

  • Ragnar Klavan
    40

    3.50

    Ragnar Klavan

A top captain's performance from the Augsburg man, as he made several great blocks, was colossal in the air and shrugged off an injury to complete the game.

  • Raio Piiroja
    29
    2
    3.00

    Raio Piiroja

A fine performance from the 34-year-old, as he made a few perfectly timed challenges to deny the star-studded likes of Lens and Van Persie. Unfortunate to see red after conceding a stoppage-time penalty, in what was a singular clumsy incident in a great outing.

  • Aleksandr Dmitrijev
    23
    1
    3.00

    Aleksandr Dmitrijev

Tenacious in the centre of midfield, offering a little more bite. Made a few key interceptions and was a nuisance, harrying the likes of Strootman and Schaars.

  • Joel Lindpere
    29

    3.00

    Joel Lindpere

Excellent defensive performance from the left midfielder, as he offered plenty of cover for Kruglov. Didn't offer a great deal going forward.

  • Konstantin Vassiljev
    71

    4.50

Konstantin Vassiljev Top of the Match

Nutmegged De Vrij before placing a low drive into Vorm's bottom left corner in the first half, before placing a delicate lob over the Oranje 'keeper in the second half to give his side something to hold onto. Could easily have grabbed a hat-trick.

  • Martin Vunk

    2.50

    Martin Vunk

Provided the pass for Vassiljev's opener, and was unfortunate not to make more of a good chance in the second half. Worked hard with Dmitrijev in the centre of midfield to close space continuously.

  • Henri Anier
    21
    3
    2.50

    Henri Anier

Offered little upfront for the hosts as he saw no real service in the first half. Full of running and pressed well, but was mostly a pedestrian in terms of attacking play.

  • Henrik Ojamaa
    26
    1
    2.50

    Henrik Ojamaa

Solid on the right hand side of midfield. His pace and physicality helped to pressure and then break whenever he won possession.

Substitutions

  • Sergey Zenjov

    3.50

    Sergey Zenjov

Excellent substitute appearance from the striker, as he created two good opportunities where he may have hoped to do better, and won many a corner in the second half.

  • Michel Vorm
    3
    38
    1.00

    Michel Vorm

Could have prevented either of Estonia's goals and was lucky to escape unscathed from other incidents which involved his own bad handling.

  • Bruno Martins Indi

Bruno Martins Indi Flop of the Match

A error-strewn performance from the youngster, who struggled against the hard running of both Anier and then Zenjov.

  • Daryl Janmaat
    6
    22
    2.50

    Daryl Janmaat

Tried to offer himself as an outlet for Dutch attack, but was limited in the fact that Robben wouldn't willing give him the ball to overlap. Reasonable defensive performance.

  • Jetro Willems
    6
    24
    2.50

    Jetro Willems

Had a tough battle against Ojamaa, but the youngster did well enough to limit the Estonian winger to a few poor crosses. Not his most impressive performance, but he faced the opposition's arguably most dangerous player.

  • Stefan de Vrij
    5
    24
    1.50

    Stefan de Vrij

Not the best performance from the young centre-half, as he was comprehensibly beaten for Vassiljev's first goal. Reasonable in the air, but otherwise struggled a little.

  • Arjen Robben
    28
    15
    2.50

    Arjen Robben

Looked the most likely player to make something happen for the visitors. Netted a classy goal inside the opening few minutes and always looked to cut inside and test Pareiko. Became predictable.

  • Kevin Strootman
    16
    15
    2.50

    Kevin Strootman

A quiet game from the Roma man, but he kept play moving and ticking over. Won't want to see the replays from two of his long-range efforts.

  • Stijn Schaars
    6
    20
    2.50

    Stijn Schaars

Poor performance from the defensive midfielder, as he stepped in with a couple of interceptions but nothing more.

  • Wesley Sneijder
    21
    21
    1.50

    Wesley Sneijder

Had several good attempts at goal, but just couldn't find the cutting edge. Creative, but lacked refinement.

  • Jeremain Lens
    7
    22
    1.50

    Jeremain Lens

A really poor outing from the right winger, as Jaager effectively shut the young Dutchman out of the game. He failed to put in a dangerous cross throughout the match.

  • Robin van Persie
    24
    31
    2.50

    Robin van Persie

Took his penalty brilliantly, and had a few touches of real quality in the first half, but struggled against the physically imposing Klavan.

Substitutions

  • Jeffrey Bruma
    3
    19
    2.50

    Jeffrey Bruma

Failed to steady Netherlands' defence, making a couple of nervy clearances.

  • Dirk Kuyt
    20
    12
    2.00

    Dirk Kuyt

Several key crosses from the left hand side, providing the service which Lens lacked throughout, though the less said about his penalty appeal, the better.
