Live Commentary

  • That's going to do it for our LIVE! coverage. Reaction will be appearing on imminently so don't go anywhere, and tweet @GoalUK with your thoughts on the game!
  • It was a cagey game throughout, and England fans will be left underwhelmed by the result and performance. Poland will take heart from making the Three Lions sweat and the group remains a tight affair.
  • 90' + 4'
The full-time whistle goes! England and Poland have played out a 1-1 draw in Warsaw.
  • 90' + 2'
Jagielka leaves a long ball that Lewandowski is getting onto but Hart is quick from his line and smashes the ball away from just outside his box. Time ticking away here.
  • 90' + 1'
Into the first of three added minutes at the Warsaw National Stadium.
  • 90'
    SubstitutionLudovic Obraniak Ariel Borysiuk
  • 90'
Obraniak is now being brought off and is given a standing ovation as he is replaced by Ariel Borysiuk.
  • 89'
Obraniak's corner is headed clear by Lescott, the ball is worked back to the Bordeaux man and his right-footed delivery swings towards the near post but Hart gathers well low down.
  • 88'
Poland pushing forward themselves, Obraniak has been central to much of their good play today and he looks to release substitute Mierzejewski down the left, but Johnson toe-pokes the ball behind for a corner.
  • 87'
Great play be England as Johnson feeds Gerrard and the skipper flicks to Milner closing in on the byline. The winger flashes a ball across the six-yard box that Welbeck just misses and Tyton gathers well.
  • 86'
A glimpse of goal as Johnson crosses to Welbeck but the striker's header is only faintly flicked and the ball bobbles wide.
  • 85'
Five minutes remaining in Warsaw and England continue to dominate possession with the hosts looking to counter at break-neck speed.
  • 83'
    SubstitutionKamil Grosicki Arkadiusz Milik
  • 83'
Another sub for Poland, Kamil Grosicki comes off after a tough shift and Arkadiusz Milik, the 18-year-old top scorer in the Polish League, comes on for him.
  • 82'
A booming ball forward turns Jagielka who is running back toward his own goal with lewandowski breathing down his neck, the Everton man does well to pass to hart who calmly plays the ball to Lescott under pressure from the Polish striker.
  • 81'
Glik again goes close, nipping to the front post and getting on the end of Obraniak's corner but this time his header is just too high and drifts over.
  • 79'
England break and win a corner of their own, Milner takes it short to Gerrard who returns the ball, but the Manchester City midfielder's cross goes over the bar, nestling on the roof of the net.
  • 78'
It's a familiar story but England cannot stop Piszczek, he bursts down his wing again and cuts the ball to Lewandowski, he finds his club-mate again travelling into the area but Jagielka blocks him off with the ball bobbling onto his arm, but a penalty would have been incredibly harsh. Another Polish corner sees Hart come for it again, this time he is fouled.
  • 77'
England are probing but struggling to penetrate Poland's defences. The hosts are keenly looking to break whenever they win the ball from the Three Lions.
  • 75'
England are looking to rebuild their attacking impetus and Oxlade-Chamberlain does magnificently on the right getting past his man before whipping in a cross that Wasilewski heads off Tyton's glove and out for a corner but Cleverley's delivery is a waste.
  • 73'
    SubstitutionWayne Rooney Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain
  • 73'
The Arsenal youngster is on, and Wayne Rooney is the man replaced. Hodgson is seemingly sticking with a 4-5-1 system.
  • 72'
Poland have deserved no less than that goal. Perhaps England have deserved to concede too, they've sat far too deep in this half and invited pressure upon them. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain looks like he's coming on.
  • 70'
    Assist Ludovic Obraniak
  • 70'
    Goal Kamil Glik
GOAL!! A deserved equaliser for Poland! Another attack is cleared out for a corner and Obraniak whips a ball across that Hart rushes off his line to claim, but he's nowhere near and Glik flicks the ball home. England must attack now.
  • 69'
Gerrard releases Welbeck on goal but the Manchester united man is jsut beaten to the ball by Tyton. The ball is still at the sub's feet, however, and he dribbles infield before feeding Rooney on his left foot but the No.10 blazes his effort over.
  • 68'
Once again it is Piszczek who makes England sweat. His cross just evades Grosicki and Lewandowski, sliding behind the attacking pair.
  • 67'
    SubstitutionJermain Defoe Danny Welbeck
  • 67'
England need a spark and Roy Hodgson changes things in attack, Danny Welbeck replacing Jermain Defoe.
  • 65'
Close for England! The resulting free kick is played toward Defoe who has the goal at his mercy but Glik just manages to scramble the ball away, great chance for an undeserved English second.
  • 64'
    Yellow Card Kamil Glik
  • 64'
Defoe drifts wide and sends a cross that is deflected by Glik's arm, Gerrard has the ball in the box but the referee pulls the game back and gives the free kick, booking Glik in the process. Not great refereeing in any sense there.
  • 63'
    SubstitutionPaweł Wszołek Adrian Mierzejewski
  • 63'
Sub for Poland, Wszolek, on debut, is brought off with Adrian Mierzejewski on in his place.
  • 62'
Penalty shout for England! Johnson bursts forward and cuts into the area before Wawrzyniak sends him tumbling. Nothing is given but it was a very clumsy tackle.
  • 60'
Ball into the England area that Lewandowski does well to bring down before finding club-mate Piszczek, who volleys an effort into the side netting. The hosts really need to convert this pressure into a goal, you feel.
  • 59'
Let-off for England. A cross from the left is poor but Rooney scuffs his clearance straight to Obraniak who releases Piszczek on the right. The Dortmund wing-back's cross finds Lewandowski who sees an effort blocked before Obraniak fires an effort goalwards that is deflected away by an unwitting Johnson.
  • 57'
Notable formation change for England. Rooney has changed to a wide-left role to cover Piszczek's runs, with Defoe leading the line on his own.
  • 55'
Piszczek is Poland's most dangerous attacker at the moment, Obraniak releases him again down the right, and he looks to square the ball to Polanski but Milner gets back and bundles the ball back to Hart. Poland well on top at the moment.
  • 53'
Shockingly careless from Lescott who receives Cole's throw before passing the ball straight to Obraniak. The Bordeaux winger fires a cross from the right but no Poland players are in the box. Wszolek picks up the ball after Johnson clears and aims for the top corner, but Hart gathers easily.
  • 52'
Good opening for England after some sustained possession, Rooney touches the ball wide before firing a cross towards Defoe, but with the Tottenham man twisting for a volley, Wasilewski cuts the ball out. Well defended.
  • 50'
Last-gasp stuff again from the visitors. A cross from the left misses Lewandowski but Cleverley touches the ball back towards the striker with Lescott hacking clear. The ball is worked back to Obraniak whose effort is tipped over by Hart.
  • 48'
The resulting corner is well cleared and Rooney almost plays Gerrard in but the captain's touch is poor, he recovers however and puts the ball into Defoe's path, the Tottenham man hits a left-footed shot which is charged down and runs through nicely for Tyton.
  • 47'
England get the half underway in hairy circumstances. Grosicki's cross along the floor is dribbling towards Jagielka but he kicks fresh air and Johnson has to clear away with Wloszek awaiting an open goal.
  • 46'
The home side get the second half started.
  • No changes at half-time, the players are back out. Second half is imminent.
  • Infostrada keep the good stats rolling: "England's record in competitive matches in which Wayne Rooney scores: 15 wins, 0 draws, 1 defeat. Only loss exactly 5 years ago: RUS-ENG 2-1" - Good or bad omen?
  • @bolleyjay009 has a question: "Where are Carrick and Cleverley?? The midfield is not good enough." England's passing was very sloppy in that half, with Carrick probably the biggest culprit.
  • A great stat courtesy of Infostrada: "Wayne Rooney has now scored 24 international goals in competitive matches for England, two short of the team record (26 by Michael Owen)."
  • @JuniorRickross is back and feeling rather smug: "I told you Wayne Rooney was going to score."
  • So the Three Lions are in the lead after a tense first half. Do they deserve to be ahead? How can they improve? Get in touch @matthewgscott with your thoughts so far!
  • 45'
And that's the half-time whistle right on 45 minutes. England ahead at the break.
  • 44'
Gerrard lofts a ball into the area that Rooney almost gets onto, but Poland work the ball away and Lewandowski beats Lescott to the ball before haring towards goal. Superb recovery from Johnson, however, who flies back into position and touches the ball back to Hart to deny the No.9 a sight on goal.
  • 43'
England keep the pressure on, Cole's deep cross ends up at the feet of Johnson on the opposite flank who cuts inside before sending a wild shot over with his left foot. Poland burst down the other end, Lewandowski releases Grosicki who gets one-on-one with Hart but skews his effort past the near post. Should have done much better.
  • 42'
Almost moment for Rooney who brings Cole's long throw down well inside the box and looks to touch it into Milner's path but Polanski gets in the way before hacking the ball away.
  • 40'
Groscki's cross is swept behind for a corner that Obraniak sends into the area outswinging. Rooney's header is unconvincing but it only falls to Lescott who booms the ball clear.
  • 39'
    Yellow Card Ashley Cole
  • 39'
Ashley Cole goes into the book for time-wasting. A little early for that you might think.
  • 37'
Panic stations at the back as the ball is again gifted to Poland inside the England half. Grosicki gets down the right wing before cutting to Lewandowski, his touch takes him out the box and Obraniak gets on the end of the ball, hitting a shot that is blocked away. Grosicki gets the ball back in but Lescott slices away and eventually the danger is cleared.
  • 36'
Gerrard whips the ball into the penalty spot area but it is cleared to Cleverley. The Manchester United man takes a touch before fizzing a shot wide of Tyton's right-hand post from the edge of the box.
  • 35'
Ashley Cole and Jermain Defoe get boxed in on the left flank but the Tottenham man turns Polanski well before being tripped and England have a free kick in range for a good delivery.
  • 33'
Poland could and maybe should score. Lewandowski picks the ball up and is allowed to run and run and run until he's in the penalty area. The Dortmund man is tackled and the ball runs to Wawrzyniak. Cole appears to have the ball covered but lets the ball bobble past him, presumably as Joe Hart has given him a shout, with the No.1 mopping up.
  • 31'
    Assist Steven Gerrard
  • 31'
    Goal Wayne Rooney
GOALL!!! Much better delivery this time from Gerrard, inswinging towards Wayne Rooney who heads it home via a defender's shoulder.
  • 30'
England give the ball away three times but keep winning the ball back and somehow find themselves in the penalty area but Piszczek prods the ball away from Gerrard and out for a corner.
  • 28'
Joe Hart's poor clearance puts England in danger. Lewandowski bustles down the right and flashes a shot across goal that goes out for a throw-in, bypassing several legs that could have sent the ball into the net by chance or design.
  • 27'
The resulting corner is hit too deep by Gerrard and Rooney's header back into the danger area is cleared easily.
  • 26'
England work the ball well on the right flank with Johnson releasing Milner. The winger fizzes the ball across the box but Wasilewski clears away with Defoe lurking for a tap-in.
  • 24'
England look to thread the ball through a tight-knit Polish backline with Gerrard and Rooney tapping to each other on the edge of the box but the latter's touch is too heavy and the chance dies.
  • 23'
Grosicki again bursts past Cole, with Lescott having to cover the Chelsea man and clear for a throw-in. The wide man appears to have a heavy touch but his pace is a weapon on the counter for the hosts.
  • 21'
Free kick in a dangerous position, 35 yards form goal, for Poland but Obraniak's delivery is headed away and well cleared by England.
  • 20'
Wayne Rooney is cutting a similarly lone figure in attack but he gets down the left flank before trying to work Cleverley into a shooting position. The midfielder is blocked but the ball squirts back to Rooney who loops the ball goalwards, but Tyton is unthreatened.
  • 18'
Lewandowski is being forced deeper into midfield with Poland failing to get the ball off England for sustained periods. He picks the ball up on the halfway line and skips past Carrick before the England No.8 trips him, with a free kick given, but not capitalised upon fully.
  • 16'
Grosicki nips past Cole with ease before playing a one-two with Obraniak, but the return pass is too strong and Lescott comes across to shepherd the ball out of play.
  • 15'
Better from England, much of their joy is coming from the right flank and James Milner. The winger beats Wawrzyniak with ease but his cross fails to beat the first man.
  • 14'
Things getting a little ragged for England, a string of poor passes is rounded off by the worst so far from Cleverley who spoons the ball out of play, aiming for Johnson on the right wing.
  • 13'
Another Polish opening, Piszczek flies down the right wing in typical fashion before working the ball into the area ahead of Obraniak. The Bordeaux man is in behind the defence but Hart zips off his line to smother the ball.
  • 11'
    Yellow Card Eugen Polanski
  • 11'
First booking of the game, Eugen Polanski carded for blocking Jermain Defoe's run. Looked a harsh one.
  • 9'
First chance for the hosts! More work down the left sees the floating playmaker Obraniak release Wawrzyniak who cuts back to Grosicki but he misses the ball as he goes to shoot and the danger is cleared. The hosts keep the pressure on and claim handball as a Wszolek cross is blocked but their appeals fall on deaf ears.
  • 8'
Gerrard gives the ball away sloppily in midfield and Poland look to launch a counterattack, Carrick gets across to block Wawrzyniak's cross.
  • 7'
More England possession and this time it's Glen Johnson looking to chip a ball behind the back four to Cleverley but it's an over-hit pass and Tyton gather this one with ease.
  • 5'
It's been all England in the opening stages but @jinee29 is still backing the hosts: "I think Poland's forwards will be too strong for England. I say a 2-1 win to Poland."
  • 4'
England pushing on in the early stages, Cleverley drifts infield before threading a ball ahead of Defoe, but Tyton rushes from his line and gathers the ball well.
  • 3'
England control the ball for much of the opening stages before Milner is released down the right, beating his man and finding Cleverley with his cross, but the Manchester United man's shot is blocked. Good start for the visitors, though.
  • 1'
Jermain Defoe and Michael Carrick get the game underway, England in black and blue kick us off, and will attack from left to right.
  • Anthem jackets off! Handshakes shaken! Football is coming up!
  • England's anthem done, time for Poland's, my third favourite of Euro 2012 behind the anthem heavyweights of Italy and France.
  • @JuniorRickross with some welcomed optimism as the teams emerge from the tunnel: "I think England is going to show that they are a top nation in international football and beat Poland 2-1 with Rooney scoring."
  • The other results in this group yesterday were San Marino 0-2 Moldova and Ukraine 0-1 Montenegro. That latter result gives England the chance to really get a grip on Group H and go three points clear of Montenegro.
  • The pre-match shots show the pitch is still very slippery, Joe Hart almost took a tumble while kicking the ball. All this means is that there is a chance of a repeat for Sol Campbell's never-ending slide tackle, seen in England's infamous Wembley defeat to Croatia in 2007, and that can only be a good thing, right?
  • We're about 15 minutes from kick-off. Do you have something to say about the game? Who will be the key man out there today? Tweet me @matthewgscott and you might find your thoughts in this here commentary!
  • Poland coach Waldemar Fornalik also names the same team as yesterday. National captain Jakub Blaszczykowski is replaced by debutant Pawel Wszolek on the right wing and Borussia Dortmund hotshot Robert Lewandowski leads the line for the White Eagles.
  • Roy Hodgson has had a natter with ITV and is happy with the pitch, although there is still a touch of water underfoot. The Hodge has not seen fit to make any overnight changes so Jermain Defoe will partner Wayne Rooney up top for the Three Lions.
  • A touch of news to bring you, England's players have agreed to refund the admission price to the 2,500 or so fans who have travelled Poland, that's nice isn't it?
  • Subs: Walker, Ruddy, Baines, Cahill, Shawcross, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Shelvey, Lennon, Johnson, Carroll, Welbeck, Forster.
  • England starting XI: Hart; G Johnson, Jagielka, Lescott, Cole; Milner, Gerrard, Carrick, Cleverley; Rooney; Defoe.
  • Subs: Kuszczak, Wojtkowiak, Komorowski, Borysiuk, Murawski, Skorupski, Mierzejewski, Sobota, Piech, Perquis, Sobiech.
  • Poland starting XI: Tyton; Piszczek, Wasilewski, Glik, Wawrzyniak; Krychowiak, Polanski; Wszolek, Obraniak, Grosicki, Lewandowski.
  • Unless you were under the proverbial rock yesterday you might have seen yesterday's attempt at this game was postponed due to some biblical weather. Well the roof's shut today so we WILL have a match. How about some teams...
  • Hello! And welcome to the World Cup qualifying clash between Poland and England... take two! I'm Matt Scott and I'll be guiding you through all the goings on in Warsaw this afternoon and evening.
