Player Ratings: Paris Saint-Germain 4-1 Dynamo Kiev

Ancelotti's men were in inspired form as they returned to the Champions League after an eight-year wait, and Goal.com was on hand to judge the performance of each player

  • Salvatore Sirigu

    Salvatore Sirigu

Could have been given the night off for all he was involved in this encounter. It took 75 minutes for him to make a save, getting down to save a comfortable drive from Krancjar, but was deceived by Veloso’s late cross that found the corner.

  • Alex

    3.50

    Alex

Did not want to be outdone by his central defensive colleague and lashed a goal of his own from a corner. Another to have an easy evening as the rearguard was protected by the midfield.

  • Christophe Jallet

    Christophe Jallet

A confident performance from the right-back, whose stock has risen significantly over the last six months. Got forward impressively, although did not make best use of the ball in critical areas. Made a strong debut in the Champions League, but greater tests will surely come.

  • Maxwell

    Maxwell

The oldest player on the field gave a very measured performance in the left-back role. Knew he did not need to attack regularly and focussed on his defensive duties, which he performed solidly.

  • Thiago Silva

Thiago Silva Top of the Match

Made his long-awaited debut, and marked it in style, scoring brilliantly after the ball broke to him from a corner kick. In terms of his day-to-day defensive work, the Brazilian was never remotely stretched. Played 80 minutes.

  • Blaise Matuidi

    Blaise Matuidi

Helped to lay down the foundation for PSG’s attacking masterclass with an energetic performance in the heart of the midfield. Defended with great efficiency and attacked sensibly.

  • Clément Chantôme

    Clément Chantôme

Preferred to Thiago Motta in the centre of the field and offered a fine alternative. Was disciplined in the role, showing fine energy. It was a memorable occasion for the one player in the PSG side that came through their youth system.

  • Jérémy Menez
    33
    2
    3.50

    Jérémy Menez

Inspired by the occasion, the forward regularly got in behind the Dynamo defence and won a penalty kick with a clever piece of skill that confounded two defenders. Posed problems constantly and looked firmly in the mood before being replaced in the closing stages.

  • Javier Pastore
    68

    3.50

    Javier Pastore

Played his best match of the season by a great distance, moving intelligently to find space and exploiting it smartly. A really confident display, with the Champions League bringing the best out of the Argentine. Got the goal he deserved late on.

  • Marco Verratti
    98
    3
    4.00

    Marco Verratti

Ludicrously confident on the ball for one so young, his display in the centre of the field was immensely mature and belied his age. Never looked likely to concede possession.

  • Zlatan Ibrahimovic
    101
    10
    3.50

    Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Became the first player to feature for six teams in the Champions League, he marked the landmark with a coolly taken penalty midway through the first half. Oozed class throughout and showed a work ethic that he is not renowned for. Played around 70 minutes.

    Ezequiel Lavezzi

Introduced from the bench for the final 20 minutes of the game.

Maksym Koval Flop of the Match

The teenage goalkeeper was given a huge vote of confidence and made his Champions League debut in this clash. It was certainly not his fault that the Ukrainians fell to a heavy defeat, and indeed it could have been worse had he not made several smart saves, denying Ibrahimovic regularly. Made a bad error to lose the fourth, but the game was lost by then.

  • Danilo Silva

    Danilo Silva

The Brazilian’s flank was not the area most exploited by the hosts, but that is not saying a great deal as the whole defence had a night to forget. At least he managed to get forward and put a couple of dangerous crosses into the box.

  • Taye Taiwo
    6

    3.00

    Taye Taiwo

The Nigerian’s every touch was booed because of his past association with Marseille, PSG’s greatest rivals, which culminated in the left-back signing songs insulting the capital club. Got forward on a regular basis, but guilty of poor marking as Alex scored the third.

  • Yevhen Khacheridi
    2
    9
    2.50

    Yevhen Khacheridi

Had a difficult evening trying to pin down the PSG attack as he simply could not cope with the movement of the forwards. Ibrahimovic in particular took advantage of his weakness.

  • Taras Mykhalyk
    1
    7
    2.50

    Taras Mykhalyk

Toiled to pin down Ibrahimovic and Menez, who were simply too quick and too clever for the centre-back. Fouled the latter to concede a first-half penalty and was clumsy with his tackling throughout. Taken off at half time.

  • Denys Garmash
    3
    6
    2.50

    Denys Garmash

Displayed a good range of passing, creating some of Dynamo’s most dangerous moments of the game, such as a deft clipped cross to the back post in the first period. Withdrawn early in the second period.

  • Miguel Veloso
    15
    2
    3.50

    Miguel Veloso

Scored Dynamo's consolation with a moment of high quality, but struggled to produce this on a more regular basis. Was at least willing to show for the ball.

  • Niko Kranjcar
    26
    4
    3.00

    Niko Kranjcar

Showed some lovely touches in the centre of the field and seemed to be the only Dynamo player genuinely capable of punching holes in the PSG defensive line on a regular basis.

  • Raffael
    1
    7
    2.50

    Raffael

Barely managed to get on the ball to make any impression in this encounter but worked hard in a defensive capacity and deserves some credit for his industry.

  • Andriy Yarmolenko
    9
    4
    3.00

    Andriy Yarmolenko

Matched up well against Jallet well in terms of strength but was unable to get any real change out of the PSG rearguard, which enjoyed a quiet night.

  • B. Ideye
    5
    4
    3.00

    B. Ideye

Known in France for his time in Sochaux, he did not look like a player in such hot goalscoring form, although he was admittedly isolated. Shot on sight and did reasonably well given limited ammunition.

Substitutions

Decent outing from the substitute, who at least offered some threat.
