Player Ratings: Lazio 1-0 Inter

Goal.com was on hand to cast a critical eye over events at the Olimpico, where Miroslav Klose proved the difference once again with a characteristically clinical finish

    Federico Marchetti

A stunning double save from Cassano and Nagatomo was the highlight of a fine night's work, as he kept Inter at bay and preserved the result for his side.

  • Michael Ciani

    Michael Ciani

Marked Milito completely out of the game and effectively thwarted the bits and pieces that were thrown his way by the Inter attack. Dominant in the air to boot - an admirable effort.

  • Giuseppe Biava

    Giuseppe Biava

Games such as this will never be a true test of his defensive credentials, as the lack of goalmouth action meant that he was rarely forced out of his comfort zone. However, he looked the part from start to finish.

  • Stefan Radu

    3.50

    Stefan Radu

A no-nonsense display at left back. Radu thwarted almost every attack that attempted to travel through his flank and communicated superbly with the rest of the defence.

  • Abdoulay Konko

    Abdoulay Konko

Matched the commanding displays from the rest of the colleagues, as he hardly put a foot wrong and made a few key tackles. Slipped a little during Inter's second-half surge, but recovered well.

  • Stefano Mauri

    3.50

    Stefano Mauri

An effective cog on the right for Lazio as, despite large spells of frustration, he came up with the goods in the end when he laid on the winner for Klose with a perfect through-ball.

  • Hernanes
    36
    49
    2.00

    Hernanes

Ineffective with the ball in vital areas, and despite one or two brief flashes, he generally failed to accomplish anything of note in the attacking third. The playmaker that Inter need to replace Sneijder? Not on this evidence.

  • Alvaro Gonzalez
    59

    3.00

    Alvaro Gonzalez

Put in a tidy shift on bot sides of the ball in the middle of the park, as he worked hard to press his opponents while making decent use of the ball, playing safe and simple passes.

  • Senad Lulic

    12
    2.50

    Senad Lulic

Rather isolated on the wing, and twice came off second best when squaring up with Zanetti near the byeline. Substituted after failing to make his mark on proceedings.

  • Cristian Ledesma

    Cristian Ledesma

With Inter offering little in the way of an offensive punch, Ledesma was happy to sit deep and keep the ball moving around his team, while taking care of the isolated threat from the visitors.

Miroslav Klose Top of the Match

Time and time again, Klose was crowded out and harried off the ball before he could even get his bearings. He had two great chances late on to shoot, but instead turned the ball over. But just when it all seemed like ending in frustration, his clinical instincts came to the fore 82 minutes in, as he latched onto a Ledesma pass to slot home coolly and give his side a priceless three points.

Substitutions

  • Andrè Dias

    Andrè Dias

Replaced Hernanes with three minutes left as Lazio sought to shore up their defence, and he undoubtedly helped in that regard.

  • Antonio Candreva
    56
    12

    Antonio Candreva

Gave his side some fresh legs and a positive outlet out wide.

  • Sergio Floccari
    36

    Sergio Floccari

Only saw five minutes of action at the death, coming on the for the injured hero, Klose.

  • Samir Handanoviç
    51
    26
    3.00

    Samir Handanoviç

Handled all of the routine tasks required of him and should not be apportioned much blame for the Klose goal, such was the placement on the finish.

  • Javier Zanetti
    64
    27
    3.00

    Javier Zanetti

Ran his socks off in midfield and did a decent job of linking the back four with the rest of the midfield, while tracking back to make a few key tackles. Kept his discipline, but a few passes were wayward.

  • Andrea Ranocchia
    51
    32
    3.50

    Andrea Ranocchia

Blocked his fair share of shots and though he was not the most confrontational presence at the back, he more than made up for it with a series of timely interceptions. Hard to find fault in his performance today.

  • Walter Samuel
    28
    41
    3.00

    Walter Samuel

Hacked one clearance off the line and generally stood tall at the heart of the visitor’s defence. Did a good job marking Klose, making it hard for the veteran striker to find a glimpse on goal.

  • Á. Pereira
    14
    56
    2.00

    Á. Pereira

Offered his side precious little going forward and was rather lost for positioning in his own half. Lazio found a bit of joy down his flank.

  • Yuto Nagatomo
    81
    34
    3.50

    Yuto Nagatomo

Attempted to spark Inter forward with a few bursts of pace from deep, something which aided his team in the second half, though he saw a close-range rebound saved by Marchetti. Solid defensively, as he took care of his duties with little fuss.

  • Fredy Guarín
    71
    39
    4.00

    Fredy Guarín

Had a few opportunities to break with the ball at his feet from midfield. After being crowded out for a lot of the first half, he stepped up a gear after the break, driving his team forward from midfield, and coming close to a goal with a shot that hit the post.

  • Esteban Cambiasso
    20
    50
    3.00

    Esteban Cambiasso

Along with the rest of the Inter midfield, he did a generally commendable job doing the dirty work off the ball. Worked hard to close down the space in front of the penalty area and mopped up loose balls effectively.

  • Walter Gargano
    12
    60
    2.50

    Walter Gargano

Tried a little too hard today, as he was a tad reckless in midfield, picking up a deserved yellow card near the end of the first half after one too many fouls.

  • Diego Milito
    16
    87
    2.00

Diego Milito Flop of the Match

Barely managed a touch on the ball, as the complete lack of service meant that he was a frustrated spectator for most of his time on the field.

  • Antonio Cassano
    29
    70
    2.50

    Antonio Cassano

Managed to get on the ball a little more than his strike partner Milito, but his effectiveness was at the same forgettable level. Could not beat his man, nor play in any of his team-mates for goalscoring opportunities. Came close in the second half with a long range drive that was tipped onto the post.

Substitutions

  • Coutinho
    21
    48

    Coutinho

Only came on in the 86th minute, meaning he had insufficient time with which to make a difference.

  • Rodrigo Palacio
    33
    39
    2.50

    Rodrigo Palacio

Instantly added another dimension to Inter's attacking play after his introduction. However, he was unable to make a telling contribution.
