Dark clouds may hang over the red and black half of San Siro, but for Inter the forecast is comparatively bright.

Eyebrows were raised when the Nerazzurri began the campaign with two defeats inside their opening four games, but since then the club have made steady and efficient progress.

Their turn in fortunes has cast a different look on the Serie A table, and while early pacesetters Juventus and Napoli appeared set for a two-horse race, Andrea Stramaccioni’s side’s surge up the table sees them just four points adrift of top spot ahead of the latest round of fixtures.

Inter face Bologna on a run of four straight victories, but the last time the two teams met it was Stefano Pioli’s side who ran out 3-0 winners.

After a ninth place finish last season the Rossoblu have made a disappointing start to their campaign, with five defeats in eight league fixtures leaving the club in 16th position at the time of writing.

Injuries continue to trouble Sunday’s hosts and they will again be without Diego Perez, Gianluca Curci, Dejan Stojanovic, Cesari Natali, Robert Acquafresca and Henry Gimenez.

The visitors have a crowded treatment room of their own, with Philippe Coutinho, Wesley Sneijder, Christian Chivu and Dejan Stankovic absent once again.

  • Bologna have won just six of their 28 league games against Sunday's opponents, drawing five times and losing a further 17 matches.

This game will mean more to the Italian striker than most given the time he spent at Inter's arch rivals AC Milan. The 30-year-old has cut a rejuventated figure this season and his five goals saw him recalled to the national side at the start of October.

Away trips require experienced heads to show their mettle and the Argentine's display in the middle of the park will be key if Inter are to record a fifth straight victory. He has featured in all of the Nerazzurri's league games so far this season.
Prediction
Andrea Stramaccioni's side are in fine form going into Sunday's contest and with injuries piling up for the hosts, expect the Nerazzurri to emerge comfortable winners.
