Bologna - AC Milan Preview: Rossoneri look to make up for false start

Bologna have endured a difficult time of late, with the future of talisman Gaston Ramirez in the balance and a 2-0 opening-day defeat to Chievo last week only adding to Stefano Pioli's woes at the helm.

Diego Perez's red card against Chievo means Nico Pulzetti has been drafted into midfield to cover the Uruguayan, who must now serve a suspension. Other than that, centre-back Gianluca Cherubin should come in to replace Gyorgy Garics.

Meanwhile for the visitors AC Milan, who are desperate to bounce back from their 1-0 reverse to Sampdoria, coach Massimiliano Allegri is ready to hand a debut to new striker Bojan Krkic, who recently completed a season-long loan move to San Siro from Roma.

Elsewhere, fellow new arrival Nigel de Jong is expected to take a place on the substitutes' bench, as the only other change should see Giampaolo Pazzini replace the injured Robinho in attack to form a new-look partnership with the Spaniard.

However, Ignazio Abate, Alexandre Pato, Rodney Strasser and Sulley Muntari are all injured and will be of no use to the former Cagliari boss for Saturday's trip to Emilia-Romagna.

The onus is now well and truly on the Italy forward to deliver, given Ramirez's likely exit and hitman Marco Di Vaio having already left the Dall'Ara in the summer. Diamanti has proven quality, as shown by his eight goals and eight assists last season, which earned him a place in the Azzurri squad for Euro 2012, and he must now step up to the plate and show his class against Milan.

The 22-year-old failed to live up to expectations at both Barcelona and Roma, but he has been given another crack of the whip at a big club. However, this time around, he will have sizable boots to fill in those of Zlatan Ibrahimovic's, but a new lease of life may just be what Bojan needs to realise his potential. For that reason alone, a debut goal is definitely not beyond the realms of possibility.
Prediction
The hosts are currently in disarray with Ramirez's impending departure overshadowing the side's preparation for the match, while Milan's recent successes in the transfer market have helped restore the feelgood factor at the club following a gloomy summer. Therefore, expect the former champions, a work in progress admittedly, to edge past their opponents on Saturday.
