Player Ratings: Real Sociedad 3-3 Real Madrid

Goal rates the players on show as the Basques rescued a point with a stoppage-time equaliser having been left to rue their profligacy in front of goal for much of the game

    Claudio Bravo

Was beaten by Higuain after just six minutes but was not forced to do an awful lot after that in the first half. A couple of brilliant finishes got the better of him after the break but he was barely tested for much of the game.

  • Carlos Martínez Díez
    25

    3.50

    Carlos Martínez Díez

A solid performance from the right-back as he had the measure of Kaka throughout. He timed his tackles excellently and showed no fear in attacking his opponents with some positive runs and crosses down the right.

  • Mikel González Martínez

Mikel González Martínez Flop of the Match

Made a shocking error after six minutes as he gifted possession to Higuain who ran through to break the deadlock. At times he looked shaky when defending against the visitors' counterattack.

  • Íñigo Martínez

    3.00

    Íñigo Martínez

Read the game well, tracking runs and positioning himself astutely in order to make some key interceptions. He came agonisingly close to an embarrassing own goal after the break but was largely solid.

  • Alberto De la Bella
    19
    6
    3.00

    Alberto De la Bella

Was keen to get forward and attack Madrid, providing Griezmann with regular support in the wide areas. He put in a great cross before the break which nearly led to a goal, and he dealt with Callejon capably.

  • Markel Bergara
    13
    8
    2.50

    Markel Bergara

Did not provide enough of a link to the forwards from deep as his passing was not particularly expansive. He lacked awareness when Madrid countered and left his defence exposed unnecessarily.

  • Asier Illarramendi
    26
    3
    3.00

    Asier Illarramendi

Pushed up from deep and dictated the play following Madrid's opener. He clipped a number of quality passes into the area which created some of his side's best chances, but was withdrawn on the hour mark.

  • Xabi Prieto
    42

    3.50

    Xabi Prieto

The captain did not play a particularly big part in the game during the first half but was instrumental after the break. An astonishingly cool penalty pulled a goal back for his side and he rescued a point late on with a strong header.

  • Chory Castro
    24
    4
    3.00

    Chory Castro

The Uruguayan looked dangerous in the opening stages as he ghosted in from the right flank. However, his attempts on goal left a lot to be desired and he became less influential as he tired in the second half.

  • Antoine Griezmann
    51
    3
    3.50

    Antoine Griezmann

Was a constant thorn in Madrid's side with his incessant running making him a real handful. He provided a variety of quality deliveries into the area and completely deserved his goal, though he could have scored even more.

  • Imanol Agirretxe
    33
    4
    3.50

    Imanol Agirretxe

Displayed some very intelligent movement as he eluded the Blancos' defensive pair for large parts. He regularly drifted into threatening areas but was thwarted on a number of occasions by the brilliant Diego Lopez.

Substitutions

  • José Ángel
    17

    José Ángel

Brought on for Markel with nine minutes remaining.

  • Zurutuza
    17

    Zurutuza

Replaced Illarramendi in the 59th minute but failed to add any more craft to the Sociedad midfield.

  • Diego Ifrán
    18
    3

    Diego Ifrán

Came on for Castro in the 70th minute and looked very lively, creating a couple of decent opportunities for his team.

  • Diego López Rodríguez

Diego López Rodríguez Top of the Match

Showed that he warrants his place in the starting line up with a number of vital saves in the first half, particularly a reaction stop to keep out Griezmann's header. Had it not been for him, Madrid could well have found themselves beaten.

  • Ricardo Carvalho
    33
    82
    3.00

    Ricardo Carvalho

The Portuguese was very static at the back and found it difficult to keep track of Agirretxe's movement. However, he made up for his lack of pace with some decent positional play in the second half.

  • Marcelo
    39
    96
    2.00

    Marcelo

Failed to provide the sort of adventurous play that he usually offers down the left flank. He did not support Kaka enough and struggled when Sociedad doubled up on his flank. Failed in his efforts to up his game after the restart.

  • Arbeloa
    20
    93
    2.50

    Arbeloa

Struggled to cope with the persistence of Griezmann down his side of the pitch, regularly affording the Frenchman far too much space. This forced him to hang back more than he would have liked.

  • Raúl Albiol
    68
    44
    3.50

    Raúl Albiol

The former Valencia defender put in a very physical display and ensured that his team were not outdone aerially. On the deck, he judged his tackles brilliantly and made it difficult for the hosts to pass the ball through the middle.

  • Sami Khedira
    80
    44
    3.00

    Sami Khedira

Did not really show his usual dynamism in midfield as Madrid found themselves pressed back in the first half. He was more energetic in the second half and scored a delightful goal with 10 minutes remaining.

  • Michael Essien
    87
    46
    3.00

    Michael Essien

Provided a strong, physical presence in the midfield and dropped in to help his side defend when they came under pressure. He got a vital touch to divert a Griezmann header behind for a corner in the first half.

  • Luka Modric
    175
    48
    3.50

    Luka Modric

The Croatian found it difficult to impact the game as his team struggled to retain the ball, but he was devastating when orchestrating the counterattacks. He had a decent outing in the more advanced central role.

  • Kaká
    166
    51
    3.00

    Kaká

Suffered wide on the left due to a lack of pace, but never stopped trying to get at Carlos Martinez. He was one of Madrid's most dangerous players and provided an exquisite assist for Callejon.

  • Gonzalo Higuaín
    91
    52
    3.50

    Gonzalo Higuaín

Took his first chance of the game, pouncing on Mikel Gonzalez's mistake and providing a cool finish to open the scoring. He continued to work hard despite minimal service and was only denied another by some last-ditch defending.

  • José Callejón
    36
    79
    3.00

    José Callejón

A largely poor night for the winger was salvaged with a nice goal in the second half. Before that, he had shown no hunger for the ball and was only noticeable due to his almost non-existent display.

Substitutions

  • Nacho Fernández
    35
    49

    Nacho Fernández

Brought on for Marcelo in the 83rd minute.

  • Mesut Özil
    132
    38
    3.00

    Mesut Özil

Played 20 minutes in pace of Callejon and settled straight into the game. He linked up wonderfully with Khedira to set up Madrid's third goal.

  • Ángel Di María
    44
    79
    2.50

    Ángel Di María

Replaced Kaka in the 66th minute but left his side exposed down their left which proved a source of two late goals.
