La Liga Round 26 Results: Valencia draw despite Soldado magic

The Spain international's marvellous volley at the end of the first half of their game against Levante at Mestalla was not enough to seal victory as Jose Barkero struck late on

Getafe 2-0 Zaragoza

Zaragoza are on the brink of the relegation zone following their fiery 2-0 defeat to Getafe at Coliseum Alfonso Perez.

Adrian Colunga gave Luis Garcia Plaza's side the lead in the 21st minute when he bundled Pedro Leon's cross past Alcolea.

The game burst into life after the break when Zaragoza centre-back Glenn Loovens was shown a second yellow card in the 59th minute for handling the ball. Getafe added their second goal from the resulting set piece, as Sergio Escudero's deflected strike caught Zaragoza's despairing goalkeeper out.

Just three minutes later Getafe's player advantage was lost as Pedro Leon was given his marching orders by Cesar Muniz - his second yellow card also for handball.

Getafe eased to the three points in the remaining half an hour. Zaragoza now sit in 17th position but could be leapfrogged by Celta Vigo should they win at Sevilla on Monday evening.

Deportivo 0-0 Rayo Vallecano

Despite dominating possession Rayo Vallecano were held to a 0-0 draw by bottom club Deportivo at Municipal de Riazor on Saturday.

The visitors saw far more of the ball than their opponents during the game but could not find a breakthrough in 90 minutes.

Deportivo were restricted to breaking on the counter-attack, but did fashion a couple of great chances after the break only for their substitute Diogo Salomao to be thwarted by the in-form Rayo goalkeeper Ruben Martinez.

The home side played the final five minutes of the game with 10 men after Carlos Marchena was dismissed in the 85th minute for a second bookable offence.

Fernando Vazquez's men stay rooted to the bottom of La Liga following the draw.

Osasuna 0-1 Athletic Bilbao

Athletic eased relegation fears with a vital 1-0 win over Osasuna in Pamplona to stay six points clear of the bottom three.

The 2012 Europa League runners-up have struggled for form this season with the victory on Saturday their first win in five attempts in La Liga.

Mikael Susaeta scored the only goal of the game in the 63rd minute with a confident right-footed shot into the bottom left corner after some intricate build-up play by Ibai Gomez on the wing.

Marcelo Bielsa's side had their goalkeeper Gorka Iraizoz to thank late on as Osasuna pushed forward in search of an equaliser. Iraizoz made a host of fine stops, the highlight being his spectacular save from Kike Sola's shot in the 86th minute.

Valencia 2-2 Levante

An 89th-minute Jose Barkero strike salvaged Levante a point at Mestalla after Valencia had led for the whole of the second half thanks to a wonderful long-range strike from Roberto Soldado.

The visitors took the lead in the first half when Vicente Iborra nodded a header past the Valencia goalkeeper Vicente Guaita before Jonas levelled with a calm finish following an almighty goal-mouth scramble in the Levante box.

Right on the brink of half-time Soldado unleashed an unstoppable volley past Gustavo Munua after meeting Sofiane Feghouli's cross from the right to restore Valencia's advantage.

The Spain international was in rampant form and after the interval had a goal ruled out for offside and hammered a long-range effort against the post.

The hosts' one-goal advantage was never increased though and this prompted a nervy finale. Their fears of conceding an equaliser were then realised just a minute before the end when Barkero drove into the box and curled a shot into the bottom corner.

Granada 1-2 Malllorca

Mallorca secured their first league victory since December 22 thanks to a late Tomer Hemed goal in their 2-1 win over Granada at Estadio Nuevo Los Carmenes.

The Israel international scored in the 94th minute to steal three points for Gregorio Manzano's side after the game had looked destined to be a draw.

Granada went a goal up in the 9th minute through on-loan attacker Nolito, when the former Masia player sent a thumping header after connecting with Inigo Lopez's deep cross from the right-hand side.

Just minute later Alejandro Alfaro drew the away side level though, as he slid the ball home from close range after exquisite wing play from Giovani dos Santos.

The home team had a number of chances to restore their lead after the break, but failed to do so after wasteful finishing from Aranda and Odion Ighalo.

In the 88th minute Hemed crashed an effort against the post before going one better late on in added time when he nodded a corner past Tono.

Espanyol 0-0 Valladolid

Espanyol and Valladolid fought their way to a goalless 0-0 draw at Cornelia-El Prat on Sunday afternoon, as both sides showed a lack of invention in attacking areas.

The visitors started the game stronger and had two decent chances to take the lead only for Lluis Satre and Omar Ramos to fluff their lines in front of goal.

Moments before the break Manucho missed another opportunity for Valladolid, before Verdu wasted a gilt-edged chance for the hosts.

The second half continued in a similar vein to the first, with defences on top, and it was not until the dying minutes that the game opened up.

Espanyol sub Wakaso Mubarak blazed a shot over from inside the box and then Valladolid's Oscar Gonzalez was left cursing Victor Sanchez's good positioning as the Espanyol defensive midfielder blocked his effort.

The draw means Valladolid remain 11th for the time being, with Sevilla in 12th playing Celta on Monday evening. Espanyol, meanwhile, sit in 13th position in La Liga.

Malaga 0-0 Atletico

Atletico passed up a chance to close the gap on Barcelona at the top of La Liga to single figures after the Blaugrana lost 2-1 to Real Madrid on Saturday, but Diego Simeone's side could not find a breakthrough at La Rosaleda as they drew 0-0 with Malaga.

Los Rojiblancos saw more of the ball in the game on Sunday evening, but they failed to beat Wily Caballero in the Malaga goal as he kept his 12th clean sheet of the Liga season.

Atletico could have been ahead as early as the fourth minute, only for Diego Costa to slice a shot wide after brilliant build-up play by Radamel Falcao.

Malaga defended strongly after that Costa miss, and it was not until late on that Atletico would threaten again, with Falcao and the substitute Adrian Lopez both squandering good opportunities.

The home side's best chance of the game fell to their captain Weligton, but he could only head wide from 10 yards in the 75th minute.

Real Sociedad 3-3 Betis

La Anoeta played host to a wonderful game of attacking football on Sunday evening as Real Sociedad drew 3-3 with Betis.

Jorge Molina netted his eighth goal of the season in the 29th minute to make it 1-0 to Betis after a decent assist from Joel Campbell.

Shortly after half-time Dorlan Pabon increased Betis's lead with a confident finish after he was allowed to drive into the box by Sociedad's dithering centre-back Mikel.

Their two-goal lead did not last long though, as Carlos Vela found the back of the net in the 51st minute with a lethal shot from inside the Betis penalty area.

Remarkably just minutes later Sociedad were level. Inigo Martinez was the goalscorer on this occasion - the defender placing a neat header past Adrian after pushing forward from the back.

Sociedad were then awarded a penalty in the 62nd minute after the referee adjudged that Angel Lopez had handled in the area, and Xabi Prieto calmly chipped the ball down the centre of the goal to make it 3-2.

Betis were not finished though, as they notched an equaliser to make it 3-3 when Pabon fired a shot into the bottom corner following intricate footwork from Jose Canas that provided the assist.

Despite both teams pushing forward in search of a winner, none was forthcoming and the game ended with the spoils shared.

SEVILLA 4-1 CELTA

Sevilla moved into the top half of the table with a 4-1 trouncing of Celta Vigo at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan on Monday.

It was the hosts who took the early initiative, and after just 12 minutes led through Alvaro Negredo, who grabbed a second just before the half-hour mark.

Augusto Fernandez gave the Galicians hope shortly before half-time, but any chance of a comeback was soon extinguished mid-way through the second half when Gary Medel restored his side's two-goal lead.

And there was still time for Negredo to complete his hat-trick and keep his side in with a shout of a Europa League place as los Rojiblancos returned to winning ways.
