Player Ratings: Getafe 1-4 Barcelona

Goal.com rates the players on show as two goals from Lionel Messi, as well as strikes from Adriano and David Villa, downed an impotent Azulones side at the Coliseum

By Tom Webber

  • Miguel Moyà

    Miguel Moyà

Looked impressive between the sticks as he made good saves from Tello, Xavi and Thiago in the first half. He commanded his area competently and was unlucky to be beaten four times.

  • Alexis
    7
    21
    2.50

    Alexis

Was fairly solid at the back but was guilty of leaving too much space between himself and Lopo. It was only following the introduction of Messi and Villa that he was truly tested after keeping Cesc quiet for large parts.

  • Miguel Torres

    21

    Miguel Torres

Could not get forward as much as he would have perhaps liked but had Pedro in his pocket all evening. When the wingers swapped he coped just as capably with Tello in a competent performance.

  • Alberto Lopo
    6
    20
    2.50

    Alberto Lopo

Read the play well to begin with but his physical style was eventually outdone by the deftness of Cesc as he skipped past the centre-back in the build-up to Adriano's goal. It was a moment that spoiled an otherwise positive display.

  • Juan Valera
    5
    21
    2.50

    Juan Valera

Late in coming across to cover Lopo in the build-up to the goal and went in weakly on Cesc. Was on the back foot all night as he struggled with Adriano before bringing Pedro down for the penalty. He was then outmuscled by Villa for the fourth goal.

  • Pedro León
    10
    19
    3.00

    Pedro León

Did his best to push on and exploit the space in behind Adriano and did so effective at times. His delivery was impressive and he almost created a goal for Lopo shortly before the break.

  • Diego Castro
    4
    19
    2.50

    Diego Castro

Was almost non-existent in the first half and only produced one moment of worth in the second as he dribbled across the box before slicing an effort well wide. Not his brightest of displays.

  • Abdel
    9
    19
    3.00

    Abdel

Could only supply a small amount of input to the Getafe attack as they rarely saw the ball. Made a few good passes and ran at the Barca defence to cause them the occasional problem.

  • Míchel

    Míchel Flop of the Match

Was overrun in the middle and could not get anywhere near the ball. Frustrated by Barca's neat passing in triangles, he resorted to more physical means to win the ball but was left behind for his scrappy play.

  • Xavi Torres
    7
    24
    2.50

    Xavi Torres

Could not cope with the passing football of the visitors but seemed to read the game better than his midfield partner Michel. Nevertheless, he could offer nothing to the attack as his team struggled throughout.

  • Adrián Colunga
    12
    17
    3.50

    Adrián Colunga

Tried to be a nuisance throughout as his pace caused problems and he chased the ball all evening to unsettle the defence. Won some free kicks but failed to really test Valdes before being substituted on the hour mark.

Substitutions

  • Lacen

    23
    2.50

    Lacen

Replaced Michel in the 69th minute but failed to add any more steel to the midfield. The added talents of Messi and Villa meant he faced an even more difficult task though.

  • Pablo Sarabia
    18
    22

    Pablo Sarabia

Played just over 10 minutes in place of Pedro Leon and it was his shot that led to Mascherano's own goal, getting Getafe on the scoresheet.

  • Álvaro
    5
    23
    2.50

    Álvaro

Was far less problematic for the Barca defence than Colunga proved. He saw practically nothing of the ball in a poor display.

  • Víctor Valdés
    140
    13
    3.00

    Víctor Valdés

A comfortable night for the keeper as Getafe offered very little to trouble them. He claimed the majority of balls into his area on what was a quiet game for him. Only denied a clean sheet by a fortunate own goal for the hosts.

  • Piqué
    147
    8
    3.00

    Piqué

Regularly stepped out of defence in an attempt to overwhelm Getafe's midfield, thus contributing to Barcelona's dominance of the ball. However, he was troubled by Colunga's pace.

  • Carles Puyol
    153
    5
    3.00

    Carles Puyol

Was solid in the tackle and was not fazed by being ran at by the opposition. He stood his ground throughout but picked up a knock in the second half and was withdrawn in the 57th minute.

  • Montoya
    154
    13
    3.00

    Montoya

Did not offer as much to the attack as Adriano did on the other flank and simply offered a simple backwards pass for the men in front. He was hardly tested defensively and will be pleased to have kept his flank tight.

  • Adriano
    165
    9
    3.50

    Adriano

Was free to push forward for the majority of the game as Getafe rarely got on the ball. He charged forward to get on the end of Cesc's run and score the game's opening goal and provided additional width all night.

  • Cesc Fàbregas
    278
    17
    4.00

Cesc Fàbregas Top of the Match

Regularly dropped off from the front line to try and add some impetus to the attack with penetrating passes, though not all of them came off. His excellent run created the chance for Adriano to open the scoring.

  • Xavi
    176
    13
    3.00

    Xavi

A typical display from the midfielder as he dictated the play from the middle of the park. Always made himself available for the ball and helped his side move possession about in order to open the spaces, but lacked penetration.

  • Thiago Alcántara
    181
    5
    3.50

    Thiago Alcántara

Showed some very neat touches in the final third and was one of Barca's brightest players. Always looked willing to take players on and was unlucky not to score having hit the bar before being denied by Moya before the break.

  • Busquets
    144
    18
    3.00

    Busquets

It was a standard night in the middle of the park for Busquets as he closed the ball whenever Getafe managed to get on the ball. His involvement in much else was minimal but he is never expected to contribute going forwards.

  • Pedro
    151
    16
    3.00

    Pedro

Offered plenty of width in the early exchanges but soon faded into the background as his influence on the game waned. Finally came into the action as he won a penalty before supplying the cross for Messi's second.

  • Tello
    123
    64
    3.00

    Tello

Saw an effort saved by Moya in the fourth minute but from then on looked well off the pace. His touch frequently let him down and made him incapable of passing defenders in what was a lacklustre display.

Substitutions

  • Javier Mascherano
    136
    33
    2.50

    Javier Mascherano

Replaced Puyol in the 57th minute and was somewhat unlucky to give away his side's clean sheet as Sarabia's shot hit him in the head before finding the corner of the net.

  • David Villa
    223
    12

    David Villa

Continued his comeback with a 15 minute spell in place of Tello. Held off the challenge of Valera to slot home his team's fourth in the closing stages.

  • Messi
    280
    13
    3.50

    Messi

A tremendous cameo from the Argentine as he had a typically devastating impact despite playing just over 30 minutes. A penalty and a simple tap in gave him two goals for the night as he changed the game from a laboured to an emphatic win.
