Player Ratings: Bayern Munich 2-1 Borussia Dortmund

Goal.com assesses the talent on show at the Allianz Arena as the Bavarians broke their five-game losing streak against Jurgen Klopp's German champions to claim the Supercup

By Enis Koylu

  • Manuel Neuer

    Manuel Neuer

A solid game from the Germany goalkeeper, who was in command of his area, and made one particularly good save to deny Robert Lewandowski in the second half.

  • Dante
    107
    12
    3.00

    Dante

An assured performance from the Brazilian. Did what was required of him when called upon, and did not put a foot wrong throughout. Kept Lewandowski quiet, too.

  • Jerome Boateng

    Jerome Boateng

Given his shaky end to last season, it is perhaps a good thing that the 23-year-old had a quiet evening. Like Dante, he did what was needed as Bayern put in a solid performance at the back.

  • Philipp Lahm
    111
    7
    3.00

    Philipp Lahm

As usual, the Germany captain was a willing runner, and a dependable presence at the back. Made one great block to deny Lewandowski a tap in, and won applause for a fantastic tackle on Schmelzer.

  • Arjen Robben

    4.00

Arjen Robben Top of the Match

An excellent performance from the Dutchman, who put last season's disappointment behind him. It was his fantastic run that set up the second goal, and was denied a goal of his own by a great Weidenfeller stop.

  • Emre Can
    100
    21
    2.50

    Emre Can

A shaky performance from the Germany youth international, which was marred by a clumsy tackle on Kuba which earned him a booking. Had trouble with Piszczek and Blaszczykowski linking up.

  • Franck Ribéry
    160
    10
    4.00

    Franck Ribéry

Another one of Bayern's star performers. The Frenchman superbly set up Mandzukic's opener, and remained a constant threat throughout the match with his incisive running.

  • Luiz Gustavo
    83
    13
    2.50

    Luiz Gustavo

Was full of effort, but picked up a booking for a cynical hack on the on-rushing Blaszczykowski. As the game wore on, had a harder time containing Dortmund's midfield.

  • Toni Kroos
    97
    13
    3.00

    Toni Kroos

In his less preferred deep-lying role, the Germany midfielder showcased some neat passing, but failed to threaten the Dortmund defence with any of his numerous free kicks.

  • Mario Mandzukic
    261
    14
    4.00

    Mario Mandzukic

A fantastic debut from the former Wolfsburg man, who got his team off to a perfect start, and set up Robben brilliantly in the build-up to the second goal. Was full of industry throughout.

  • Thomas Müller
    139

    3.50

    Thomas Müller

Took his chance fantastically to score the second goal, which effectively killed off Dortmund. Linked up well with his team-mates throughout, as well.

Substitutions

  • Holger Badstuber
    61
    12

    Holger Badstuber

Was given a 20-minute cameo at the end, but had little to do.

  • Anatoliy Tymoshchuk
    56
    11

    Anatoliy Tymoshchuk

Brought on in the dying stages to shore things up in midfield.

  • Xherdan Shaqiri
    156
    10

    Xherdan Shaqiri

Was given a few minutes to make his Bayern debut, but had nothing to do.

  • Roman Weidenfeller
    22
    33
    3.00

    Roman Weidenfeller

Could do little about either Bayern goal, and made some decent saves, most notably to deny Robben in the last few minutes.

  • Mats Hummels
    34
    32
    3.00

    Mats Hummels

Did not hit the heights he managed during Euro 2012, but was by no means a weak link. Could perhaps have done better with the ball for the first goal, and missed a good chance with a header.

  • Marcel Schmelzer
    25
    34
    3.00

    Marcel Schmelzer

Got forward brilliantly, and put in a number of threatening balls. However, Neuer was in complete command of his area, making them largely futile.

  • Neven Subotic
    18
    49
    2.50

    Neven Subotic

Was beaten slightly too easily both goals, but improved for the rest of the first half before putting in a solid performance in the second half.

  • Lukasz Piszczek
    32
    34
    2.50

    Lukasz Piszczek

As usual, he did well going forward, but all too often did not deliver enough with his crosses. Was also partly culpable for the first goal.

  • Ilkay Gündogan
    16
    54
    2.50

Ilkay Gündogan Flop of the Match

Displayed a neat array of passes, but Dortmund were sadly lacking a more defensive player thanks to the injuries to Sven Bender and Sebastian Kehl.

  • Jakub Blaszczykowski
    34
    34
    3.00

    Jakub Blaszczykowski

Did well going forward in linking up with his compatriot, Piszczek, but his game was hampered as he fell victim to a number of nasty tackles.

  • Kevin Großkreutz
    17
    45
    2.50

    Kevin Großkreutz

Barring one run early in the second half, was completely anonymous and failed to help out defensively. Unsurprisingly withdrawn.

  • Moritz Leitner
    20
    43
    2.50

    Moritz Leitner

Like Gundogan, he failed to pull his weight defensively, and was sacrificed as Jurgen Klopp went all out in the second half.

  • Marco Reus
    51
    37
    3.50

    Marco Reus

Was a constant threat to the Bayern defence on his Dortmund debut, but should have scored. Dragged one excellent opportunity wide. Did well with his set pieces, however.

  • Robert Lewandowski
    80
    28
    3.50

    Robert Lewandowski

May have scored the goal that got Dortmund back into the match with a fantastic finish, but missed a couple of good opportunities. Was well-shackled by Bayern.

Substitutions

  • Ivan Perisic
    23
    33

    Ivan Perisic

Was brought on with a little under 30 minutes to go, but did not make any sort of impression.

  • Mario Götze
    63
    24
    3.00

    Mario Götze

Changed the game when he came on as a creative influence, but failed to squandered a couple of good opportunities to equalise.

  • Julian Schieber
    32
    29
    3.00

    Julian Schieber

Almost scored with a stinging shot in a fairly impressive debut from the former Stuttgart man.
