Borussia Dortmund 3-1 Greuther Furth: Lewandowski at the double as champions maintain momentum

A frantic first-half onslaught by the German title holders was enough to ensure them all three points as they continued their impressive run of results

Borussia Dortmund recorded back-to-back wins in the Bundesliga for the first time this season after defeating Greuther Fürth 3-1 on Saturday afternoon.

Despite Jurgen Klopp's suggestion prior to the match that Ivan Perisic might not play after speaking out against his coach, it was he that came close to breaking the deadlock after just a couple of minutes of play but Max Grun was equal to his effort.

However, it did not take long for the hosts to open their account for the afternoon when Mario Gotze broke through the Furth defence before the ball rolled kindly into the path of Robert Lewandowski, who nestled the ball into an unguarded net.

Dortmund's advantage was short lived, however, as Furth, from practically their first attack of the game, found the equaliser. Edgar Prib's perfect through pass was lofted over Roman Weidenfeller by Zoltan Steiber.

Not a quarter of an hour had elapsed before die Borussen were handed a great chance to regain their lead from the spot when a wriggling Jakub Blaszczykowski was brought down in the area. Up stepped Lewandowski, who made no mistake as he sent Grun the wrong way to claim his second of the match.

While the hosts were dominating proceedings, Mike Buskens' side resorted to playing on the counterattack, and on one of their rare forays forward they came close to levelling the tie for a second time. A well-worked move ended with Sararer cutting inside past his marker and testing Weidenfeller with a wicked long-range effort.

Dortmund quickly responded by launching a counterattack of their own. Some good link-up play between Blaszczykowski and Gotze resulted in a great chance for the Pole to make it three but his shot went just wide of the post. Moments later Mats Hummels had a chance when he rose highest in the box, but his header missed the target.

At the other end, Sararer continued to look threatening and came just inches away from bringing the team's back level when again he cut inside and sent in a curling effort only to see it rebound of the post.

However, it was Dortmund that had the last say before the first period ended. Some great work again between Blaszczykowski and Gotze sent the Germany international through on goal. Showing great composure, he eased past Grun in goal before placing the ball into the net from inside the six-yard box.

The second half was a far more tepid affair compared to the opening period as Dortmund continued to dominate possession, and it was they who carved out the first chance.

Enjoying a fine game, Blaszczykowski saw his shot saved by Grun on the hour mark after being set up by the impressive Gotze. Lewandowski, Illkay Gundogan and Lukasz Piszczek then all had chances to extend BVB's lead as the second period wore on. However, none of them could find the net.

As the match petered out, both coaches rang the changes as Klopp looked to protect his side's lead while Buskens tried in vain to bring his side back into the contest. However, the German champions held out to claim the win and make it 10 points from their last four matches.
