Goal.com was on hand to cast a critical eye over events at the SGL Area, where BVB got back to winning ways in the Bundesliga with a precious three points away from home

Simon Jentzsch Flop of the Match

Very unconvincing on two of Dortmund's three goals. Will be kicking himself that he got beaten by Reus' free kick, as well-struck as it was.

  • Ragnar Klavan

    Ragnar Klavan

Solid, for the most part, in the first half, but found the Dortmund runners a little harder to track as the match wore on, especially as the rest of his team seemed to drop a level in the second half.

  • Sebastian Langkamp

    2.50

    Sebastian Langkamp

Will rightfully be left embarrassed at the events of the third Dortmund goal, as he completely missed a seemingly routine clearance, allowing Lewandowski in behind him to slot home, putting the result beyond any doubt.

  • Jan-Ingwer Callsen-Bracker

    Jan-Ingwer Callsen-Bracker

When defending against Reus on the break, he was often found backpedalling to keep up with the Dortmund man. He was slightly more dependable when the game was a bit tighter around his own half, though.

  • Matthias Ostrzolek

    3.00

    Matthias Ostrzolek

Largely untroubled by Grosskreutz in his own half, so spent a lot of his time supporting Werner high up the field. His presence allowed the man in front of him more space. Assisted Augsburg's only goal with a cross from the flanks.

  • Kevin Vogt
    4
    4
    2.50

    Kevin Vogt

Ineffective in the middle of the park as he failed to be productive off the ball and misplaced a fair number of passes when on it.

  • Koo Ja-Cheol

    11
    2.00

    Koo Ja-Cheol

Offered little in the way of an attacking threat on the win as he spent most of his time isolated and running into cul de sacs.

  • Daniel Baier

    2.50

    Daniel Baier

A few nice touches late on did not make up for a largely forgettable game, as he did not create many meaningful opportunities for Augsburg from an advanced midfield position.

  • Tobias Werner
    9
    5
    3.50

    Tobias Werner

Constantly drove his team forward with his marauding and direct play on the left flank. He was able to get past Piszczek on a number of occasions and facilitate some dangerous openings for the hosts. But unfortunately for him, the rest of the Augsburg attacking unit was not up to his standard. Had they been, the result may well have been different.

  • Andreas Ottl
    5
    7
    2.50

    Andreas Ottl

In what was a recurring theme across the midfield for both sides, he never really got going, and made his fair share of mistakes to contribute to a disjointed showing.

  • Torsten Oehrl

    Torsten Oehrl

Werner fashioned a pair of opportunities for him, but his finishing touch deserted him as he missed the target with both of them. Frustrating game for him.

Should have scored just after coming on from a rebound, but hit the post.

    Sascha Mölders

Scored the consolation goal with a bundled finish from extremely close range.

    Roman Weidenfeller

A string of fine saves snuffed out a burgeoning threat from Augsburg and saved his team from a few awkward moments.

  • Mats Hummels

    19
    1.50

    Mats Hummels

Looked uncharacteristically shaky on a few occasions when Dortmund broke, as he made one or two small errors that could have been costly had Augsburg been a little more ruthless.

  • Lukasz Piszczek
    59
    5
    3.00

    Lukasz Piszczek

Very resourceful with the ball whenever the opted to go forward, but he did leave a few gaps in behind, which Werner gleefully exploited whenever the opportunity arose. The Augsburg winger caused him a great deal of worry in defence.

  • Felipe Santana
    13
    22
    1.50

    Felipe Santana

A rare start for him today, but did his claims for a permanent spot in the XI more harm than good. Looked every bit as unconvincing as Hummels alongside him, as Augsburg were able to create a few chances. Subotic was missed.

  • Marcel Schmelzer
    36
    8
    3.00

    Marcel Schmelzer

Solid as ever in defence, and patient when supporting the attack. Schmelzer gave a typical no-frills performance, dependable and assured.

  • Sven Bender
    31
    6
    2.00

    Sven Bender

Ran his socks off to close down the Augsburg attackers, but simply did not have the support or the attacking nous to make a great difference in midfield, with many of Dortmund's attacks breaking down.

  • Ilkay Gündogan
    24
    15
    2.00

    Ilkay Gündogan

Never got into stride today as Augsburg managed to pres him completely out of his comfort zone in midfield. Misplaced a fair few passes today.

  • Mario Götze
    61
    16
    3.00

    Mario Götze

Drifted in and out of the game from time to time, but was potent on the ball when he was involved. Nearly scored at the end of the first half with a shot that hit the post, and laid on Lewandowski's first with a sublime piece of control.

  • Marco Reus
    136
    23
    4.50

Marco Reus Top of the Match

Opened the scoring with a free kick of astounding ability, bending into the top corner from an area of the pitch normally reserved for overlapping fullbacks. His quality was in plain view whenever he got on the ball, and he simply had too much talent for Augsburg.

  • Kevin Großkreutz
    18
    23
    2.00

    Kevin Großkreutz

The archetypical Grosskreutz performance; worked hard off the ball when closing down the Augsbueg attackers and tracking back in his own half, but offered only fleeting moments of quality when helping his side in attack.

  • Robert Lewandowski
    145
    8
    4.00

    Robert Lewandowski

Rather quiet in the first half as he failed to make any meaningful inroads in attack. But after the break, his predatory instincts came to the fore. Buried a pair of opportunistic finishes after some excellent movement to put the game well and truly beyond the reach of Augsburg.
