Player Ratings: West Ham 0-0 Manchester City

Roberto Mancini's disjointed attack was frustrated by Sam Allardyce's resilient rearguard as the Premier League champions lost more ground to leaders Manchester United

By Chris Davie at Upton Park

  • Jussi Jaaskelainen

    2.50

    Jussi Jaaskelainen

Comfortably saved all of the efforts aimed at his goal but showed a rare lapse in concentration on a few occasions which caused a slight scare among West Ham's back line.

  • Winston Reid

    Winston Reid

Didn't get on the ball much and at times looked hurried in his clearances.

  • George McCartney

    George McCartney

Had an easy time in the first half against the cumbersome Edin Dzeko but rarely ventured out of his half. Booked.

  • Joey O'Brien
    10

    2.50

    Joey O'Brien

Had a solid enough game at full-back but was at times overrun by Gael Clichy's movement in the final third.

  • James Collins
    14

    3.00

    James Collins

Kept his distribution simple which allowed West Ham to build from the back. Collins also opted for a no-nonsense approach to his defending which kept Carlos Tevez moderately quiet inside the box. Booked.

  • Kevin Nolan
    14
    4
    2.00

    Kevin Nolan

A quiet afternoon for the midfielder saw his well-taken effort in the fourth minute wrongly ruled out for offside. Was often bypassed in midfield as West Ham opted to play it direct from the back up to Andy Carroll.

  • Matthew Jarvis
    19

    2.00

    Matthew Jarvis

Guilty of giving away possession on a few occasions in the first half by playing five-yard passes behind his team-mates. Looked threatening when in a wide position against Kolo Toure and crossed well but didn't do that enough throughout the game.

  • Yossi Benayoun
    23
    7
    2.00

    Yossi Benayoun

Hit the crossbar with a well-taken effort in the second half following a sweeping West Ham move. Saw plenty of the ball but lacked the conviction when taking on Gael Clichy and often played the safe option. Booked for chopping down Carlos Tevez.

  • Mark Noble
    16
    2
    2.50

    Mark Noble

When given space, Noble looked a superb central midfielder with an excellent range of passing. However, Manchester City's three-man midfield often denied him time on the ball and as a result, Noble looked rushed when in possession.

  • Mohamed Diame
    14
    5
    2.00

    Mohamed Diame

Not the 25-year-old's best game in the centre of West Ham's midfield. Took too long in possession on several occasions and was eventually replaced by Gary O'Neil.

  • Andy Carroll
    32
    13
    2.50

    Andy Carroll

Isolated in attack for the majority of his time of the pitch, the England international performed his usual task of holding up play to decent effect.

    Jordan Spence

Came on too late to influence.

  • Gary O'Neil

    Gary O'Neil

Only had a few touches of the ball as West Ham attempted to close the game out for the draw.

  • Carlton Cole

    2.00

    Carlton Cole

Came on for Andy Carroll but was left on his own in attack during his time on the pitch. Not the best conditions for him to shine.

  • Joe Hart
    21
    6
    2.50

    Joe Hart

The England international was a spectator for the majority of the game as West Ham failed to register an effort on target. Despite this, Hart would have been concerned with Gael Clichy's lapse in concentration which allowed Yossi Benayoun to strike his effort against the crossbar.

  • Vincent Kompany
    18
    8
    3.00

    Vincent Kompany

Dealt with Andy Carroll comfortably and formed an assured partnership alongside Matija Nastasic. Didn't look troubled when Carlton Cole was introduced either.

  • Gael Clichy
    14
    12
    3.00

    Gael Clichy

Was more of an outlet on the left wing, as opposed to Kolo Toure on the right flank, but the Frenchman's concentration was called into question early on as he allowed Yossi Benayoun to strike Joe Hart's crossbar in the first half.

  • Kolo Toure
    16
    17
    2.00

    Kolo Toure

Offered very little going forward which resulted in Manchester City having virtually no outlet on the right flank throughout the game. Solid enough as a defender.

  • Matija Nastasic
    40
    10
    3.50

    Matija Nastasic

In only his third Premier League appearance this season, the 19-year-old looked composed alongside Vincent Kompany at centre-back. Nastasic won the majority of his aerial battles and was solid enough when passing out from the back.

  • Samir Nasri
    25
    7
    3.00

    Samir Nasri

Bright in possession and saw a lot of the ball in the centre of Manchester City's midfield but the movement in the champions' attack restricted the Frenchman's effectiveness in his distribution.

  • Yaya Touré
    10
    18
    2.50

    Yaya Touré

Sat very deep in the first half and was redundant for large parts of the game as Manchester City only had Andy Carroll to contend with in attack. Despite his side's dominance after the break, the Ivorian still screened the back four as opposed to getting forward which seemed a waste.

  • Gareth Barry
    14
    9
    3.00

    Gareth Barry

Spurned Manchester City's best chance of the game in the second half as he screwed his effort inside the box wide when one-on-one with Jussi Jaaskelainen. Looked comfortable in possession, keeping his passes short and sweet.

  • Edin Dzeko
    60
    72
    1.50

Edin Dzeko Flop of the Match

Looked every inch a towering striker shoehorned into a winger's position. Dzeko lumbered his way through the first half and looked awkward both in possession and in his attempts to cut inside. In fairness, Kolo Toure's reluctance to venture forward was also a factor in Manchester City's non-existent attack on the right flank.

  • Carlos Tévez
    51
    36
    3.50

Carlos Tévez Top of the Match

Was the brightest of Manchester City's front three, perhaps as a result of being played through the centre, rather than out wide. Increased the tempo after the break and was the source of the visitors' attack on most occasions. Replaced by Javi Garcia to a standing ovation from the West Ham fans.

  • Mario Balotelli
    42
    54
    1.50

    Mario Balotelli

Another frustrating afternoon for the Italian as he looked uncomfortable out wide while Tevez played through the middle. Had little influence after the break and was replaced by Sergio Aguero with 21 minutes to go.

Substitutions

  • Javi García

    Javi García

Made his return from injury but had little influence.

  • Scott Sinclair

    Scott Sinclair

Should have been introduced earlier on in order to have made an impact.

  • Sergio Agüero
    25
    18
    2.00

    Sergio Agüero

Came on for Mario Balotelli but despite Manchester City's dominance, the Argentina international couldn't get the winning goal.
