Copa del Rey Player Ratings: Athletic Bilbao 0-3 Barcelona

Goal.com rates the players on show as Pep Guardiola's reign in charge of the Blaugrana came to a fitting close

    Iraizoz

The Bilbao keeper had it tough, having to pick the ball out his net so early on in the game, which set the tone. Kept his defence going in front of him and made an inspirational save from Messi, but was helpless against Barcelona's clinical finishing.

  • Aurtenetxe

    Aurtenetxe

Blew his best moment of the game, missing a glaring header in the second half. But he showed his value to the team by getting up to support on the left hand side whenever he could. Despite the Barcelona onslaught showed some composure in defence.

  • Borja Ekiza
    28

    Borja Ekiza

One super bit of defensive skill stopped Messi from getting a shot away when in a dangerous position. Showed some good touches and composure despite seeing his defence being overrun by Barcelona's play out on his flank, and sometimes struggled to get on top of Pedro.

  • Amorebieta
    23
    12
    3.00

    Amorebieta

Did his best to try and hold the heart of the Bilbao defence together but was not able to impose himself on Barca's strikers. At times caught out by some slick passing. Works much better when he has a target man to mark.

  • Andoni Iraola
    17
    18
    2.50

    Andoni Iraola

A frustrating evening for the Bilbao captain. His fierce competitive edge remained to the end and he has to be applauded for raising his team's morale, but failed to inspire with his performance. He was largely anonymous in the second period.

  • Javi Martínez
    29
    14
    3.00

    Javi Martínez

Despite playing in his favoured midfield role Martinez failed to stem the tide of Barca attacks. He was also unable to start Bilbao's raids into the opposition half spending most of the game backtracking.

  • Susaeta
    17
    33
    2.00

    Susaeta Flop of the Match

Did little to lift his team on this occasion. Despite making some inroads into the Barcelona defence in the early stages he tailed off and failed to give Llorente the support he needed. Frustration spilled over into a yellow card and he was removed from the fray at the interval.

  • Óscar De Marcos
    18
    15
    2.00

    Óscar De Marcos

A poor performance from a usually inspiring player. Apart from a couple of runs which amounted to very little, De Marcos had very little impact on the game in front of a slick Barcelona midfield. Justifiably removed at half time.

  • Ibai Gómez
    20
    16
    3.00

    Ibai Gómez

A lively start and then he petered out as Bilbao simply failed to control the game. Good on set pieces but his overall service for his attack lacked accuracy and penetration on this occasion.

  • Fernando Llorente
    49
    14
    3.00

    Fernando Llorente

Llorente gave his all as he always does. Can feel harshly done by in not getting a penalty in the first half. Held up the ball as much as he could but received little or no support from his midfield. One wild shot in the second half summed up his frustration before being replaced.

  • Muniain
    30
    28
    2.00

    Muniain

Another star of the future who will have to wait for another day to shine. Unable to put his zippy pace to much effect he was constantly chasing shadows and the ball in the heart of the Bilbao midfield. His lack of showing deeply affected Bilbao.

Substitutions

  • Ander Herrera

    3.00

    Ander Herrera

Came on in the second half but found it difficult overall to make much of an impression in the game. That said he did offer something more to Bilbao's attack but by then Barca were already set in and counting the victory.

  • Íñigo Pérez
    16
    16
    2.50

    Íñigo Pérez

Too little too late for Inigo Perez to have much influence on a game that was already by that stage won by Barcelona.

  • Toquero
    19
    14
    3.00

    Toquero

The perennial hero of Bilbao came on to great applause and hope. However, on this occasion Toquero simply did not have enough time to change the direction of the game. Made a nuisance in the Barcelona defence but failed to have any clear chances.

  • José Pinto Colorado
    158
    24
    3.50

    José Pinto Colorado

Always looks like he is a moment away from calamity, and while Pinto had his moments in this game once again his shot stopping was next to none. The very little that Bilbao created he handled comfortably.

  • Adriano
    126
    29
    3.00

    Adriano

Overlapping whenever he could, Adriano has been an able stand in for Abidal for much of the second half this season. Deserved his day out in the final and put in his usual solid performance.

  • Montoya
    135
    30
    3.50

    Montoya

The young right-back got the perfect chance to stake a late claim for a place at Euro 2012 as he deputised for Dani Alves and he looked impressive with some surging runs down the channel. Defensively he was rarely troubled, but his final ball was often disappointing.

  • Piqué
    149
    27
    3.00

    Piqué

As the only recognised central defender, Pique took on the responsibility well in Puyol's absence. But his occasional lapses could have cost the team, and was lucky to not have conceded a penalty for what looked like a foul on Llorente.

  • Busquets
    119
    35
    3.00

    Busquets

Pep played the usual suspects in midfield for his last match and Busquets was given the easiest task of all. The defensive lynchpin had little to do in the first 45 minutes and was generally impressive, but did lose the ball a couple of times in the second half.

  • Andrés Iniesta Luján
    274
    21
    3.50

    Andrés Iniesta Luján

Not only economical with the ball but showed an abundance of skill each time the ball to came him. His pass for Messi's goal was something only Iniesta could have produced.

  • Javier Mascherano
    199
    26
    3.00

    Javier Mascherano

Outstanding alongside Pique in defence. The little Argentine was as competitive as he always is and stifled anything that Bilbao threw his way. Some better passing as well has also helped him develop his game at the heart of the defence.

  • Xavi
    203
    22
    3.50

    Xavi

Another grand contribution from the master in midfield. Set Barcelona's intent with a shot that just pinged wide in the opening minutes of the game. Constantly kept the team ticking over, setting up chances, finding spaces and going it alone when the need arose.

  • Alexis Sánchez
    144
    45
    3.00

    Alexis Sánchez

The Chilean failed to hit the heights of earlier this season but was a willing worker as Barca dominated and created plenty of space for his team-mates with his intelligent running. It didn't quite work for him when he had the ball, though, and he went down too theatrically at times.

  • Messi
    395
    56
    3.50

    Messi

The magic of the Argentine was at its best when he scored his goal. His movement and reading of the situation was terrific. That aside he had a quieter game by his enormous standards. Was always a real threat every time he got near the Bilbao penalty area.

  • Pedro
    377
    37
    4.00

    Pedro Top of the Match

Arguably the star of the show. Pedro turned the clock back in Guardiola's last game to remind everyone of his devastating finishing when he first burst onto the scene. Scored two wonderful goals that are his hallmark. Finally recovered from all his injuries, and his form augers well for the national team.

Substitutions

  • Seydou Keita
    137
    36
    2.50

    Seydou Keita

A fitting farewell for Keita, it seems. Often a player that comes on to either steer the ship or look for an inspirational goal. this time he just came on to enjoy another winning moment.
