Barcelona win Aggregate 3 - 1

Live Commentary

  • The final of this year's Copa del Rey will see Barcelona play Athletic Bilbao, which will no doubt be an exciting encounter between Pep Guardiola's men and a side that have come into their own in recent months under the careful tutelage of Marcelo Bielsa. Barca deserved their win tonight, and should perhaps have won by more than the two goals. That's all from me tonight, thanks for joining me. Goodnight!
  • 90' + 3'
FULL-TIME. Barcelona 2-0 Valencia. Barcelona go through 3-1 on aggregate after their victory tonight.
  • 90' + 2'
    SubstitutionCesc Fàbregas Iniesta
  • 90' + 2'
Iniesta is introduced for one of the goalscorers Cesc as the game edges towards its conclusion.
  • 90' + 1'
    Three minutes of stoppage time...
  • 90'
Dani Alves needs to be careful, he's only just come on but is already on a yellow card and then gives away another free-kick for a push on Alba.
  • 89'
    SubstitutionCuenca Tello
  • 88'
    Yellow Card Daniel Alves
  • 88'
Thiago with an eyewatering piece of skill on the edge of Valencia's box that leads to another corner for Barca. What a season he is having after helping Spain's U21 side win the U21 European Championships last summer.
  • 87'
Barcelona toying with their opponents at Camp Nou, with Puyol and Pique playing like attacking midfielders at the moment!!
  • 86'
    SubstitutionAlexis Sánchez Daniel Alves
  • 85'
    SubstitutionAlbelda Parejo
  • 85'
ANOTHER SAVE FROM ALVES!!! Messi whips an effort goalwards that the Valencia 'keeper does well to tip round the post. He's been far and away his side's best performer tonight.
  • 84'
Free-kick to Barcelona in a promising position 25 yards out...
  • 82'
    Yellow Card Thiago Alcántara
  • 82'
Piatti dives to win a free-kick for Valencia. Thiago is not happy about that!!!
  • 81'
    Goal Xavi
2-0 TO BARCELONA!!!!!!!! Alexis drives with the ball, checks back and finds Cesc, who shifts the ball onto Xavi, who then dispatches the ball into the top left hand corner with aplomb. A fine goal for Barcelona, and surely one that puts this tie to bed.
  • 80'
Aduriz gets beyond Pique but just as he is about to pull the trigger he loses his footing inside the Barca penalty area. That was a chance. Valencia's hopes, just like Aduriz's footing, are slipping away.
  • 78'
    SubstitutionJonas Pablo Piatti
  • 78'
Valencia have a real fight on their hands to get back into this game with only ten men. Piatti comes on for the away side as they throw caution to the wind in search of an equaliser that would take this game into extra-time.
  • 76'
    Yellow/Red Sofiane Feghouli
FEGHOULI IS OFF!! And that is for a second silly yellow card for another cynical foul, this time on Puyol. If his side were up against it with eleven men, Feghouli has just made it even more difficult for them with that moment of madness.
  • 75'
The crowd are starting to make their frustrations heard here. Barcelona have failed to put this game to bed, when they really should have. Another chance goes begging for the home side when Miguel gets in front of Cuenca inside the area to put a cross behind for a Barcelona corner, that is then poorly delivered by Xavi.
  • 74'
From that corner the ball falls to Jonas, and he fires a fine effort goalwards that Pinto has to tip acrobatically over the bar.
  • 72'
Messi feeds Xavi, who advances down into space on the right, but his return ball to Messi is weak and easily cleared by Rami. That was disappointing from Xavi. Valencia immediately counter and Mathieu wins a corner when his cross is deflected behind by Eric Abidal.
  • 71'
And Puyol is performing his defensive duties too, he hooks the ball away from Jordi Alba brilliantly as the left-footed player looks to run into the penalty area.
  • 70'
Puyol wins a corner for Barcelona. That gives you an idea of how high the home side are playing as they go in search of a second.
  • 69'
    SubstitutionEver Banega Tino Costa
  • 69'
    Yellow Card Cesc Fàbregas
  • 69'
And that's a wrong offside call from the linesman there, just as Alexis threatened to shoot. Cesc picks up a yellow card for his reaction to that decision.
  • 68'
Barcelona have pitched camp on the edge of Valencia's penalty area at the moment. They are queuing up right now.
  • 67'
Alexis has caused all sorts of problems for the Valencia defence, this time he turns Mathieu, not once, but twice, before eventually winning a corner.
  • 66'
An audacious effort from Xavi from 20 yards out lands just over the bar. Brilliant effort from the Spanish international.
  • 64'
Valencia's defence is getting violated far too often by Messi and co. tonight. Only Alves is keeping them in this tie at the moment.
  • 63'
WHAT A SAVE!!!!!! Messi cannot believe that. Alves with yet another save for Valencia. It should be 6 or 7-0 here.
  • 62'
I'd love to see a race between the two.
  • 61'
Following a display of pure acceleration from Alexis, it's got me thinking, I wonder who is quicker, the Chilean or Cristian Tello, the young speedster on Barcelona's bench.
  • 59'
Mathieu has every right to feel aggrieved there. Aduriz runs through on goal and Pinto is drawn out by the attacker. His French team-mate is screaming for the pass but the striker elects to go for goal himself and his effort is cleared by Mascherano on the goal-line.
  • 58'
I've just heard that Third Division Mirandes, who were eliminated in the other semi-final by Athletic Bilbao, have been invited to the final by the Spanish FA. Nice touch.
  • 55'
HOW ON EARTH DID MESSI SQUEEZE INTO THE BOX THERE?!!! Messi, somehow, bursts through a crowd of four Valencia defenders and into the box, and his poked effort is brilliantly flicked round the post by Diego Alves. Another great save from the Brazilian.
  • 54'
Carbon copy of the previous attack, but this time it takes a sliding tackle from Ruiz to stop Messi. His tackle deflects the ball onto Alves' crossbar and out for a corner that the Valencia defence then do well to clear.
  • 52'
Barcelona starting to settle back into their metronomic rhythm now. Cuenca does well down the left, creating space that allows Messi to burst into the area, but Ruiz reacts well to intercept the ball from the Argentine.
  • 51'
    Yellow Card Víctor Ruiz
  • 51'
Victor Ruiz gets his name in the book after pulling Xavi back after the midfielder had turned the centre-back inside out. Three yellow cards for Valencia now.
  • 49'
Valencia starting the second half brightly, just as they did the first. Barcelona are working hard in defence though, with Alexis epitomising this by dispossessing Aduriz inside the Barca area.
  • 47'
Alba showed some real pace there to accelerate away from Pique. Not many players can do that.
  • 46'
DOUBLE SAVE FROM PINTO!! Jordi Alba with a chance to equalise for Valencia. The youngster is played through and his first touch is superb and takes him away from Pique inside the area but his second, the shot, is well kept out by Pinto. The ball is swept back into the area and Pinto is again on hand to make a save, this time from Aduriz's header.
  • The teams are back out at Camp Nou. Valencia need to tighten up at the back and make sure their passes find a team-mate if they wish to have any chance of progressing from this tie. Pablo Piatti is an option on the bench, and is full of pace and trickery, as he showed in the first leg last week.
  • Alot of you on Twitter, including @DKINGJAY and @BOLAJIDFIRST, are predicting a 3-0 win for Barcelona tonight, on the balance of play in the first half, I've got to say that scoreline appears a distinct possibility. Valencia have been restricted to the occasional counter attack so far and were really struggling to keep the ball at the end of the first half.
  • It's half-time here with Barcelona leading 1-0 through a tidy Cesc Fabregas finish after a marvellous assist from Messi. They are 2-1 up on aggregate now and in control of this semi-final. I'll be back in a few minutes to bring you coverage of the second half of this Copa del Rey semi-final second leg on
  • 45'
    Yellow Card Sofiane Feghouli
  • 45'
And that is a cynical foul from Feghouli on Thiago there. He drags the midfielder down as Barcelona look to counter attack. The Frenchman knew exactly what he was doing there, and it results in a yellow card.
  • 43'
David Albelda doing what he does best, getting in Alexis' face and bringing the forward down with a rash challenge on the half-way line. Seconds later Alexis is brought down by Jordi Alba. They're starting to lose a bit of composure, the away side.
  • 42'
Should Barcelona advance tonight they will be playing in their 12th final under Pep Guardiola since 2008. A remarkable statistic.
  • 41'
Despite being bullied in possession by Barcelona, Valencia continue to harry their opponents as the game approaches half-time.
  • 40'
Alexis flagged offside after racing through and appearing to be brought down in the area by Ruiz. A tight call that one from the linesman.
  • 39'
Great defending from Mathieu. The Frenchman forces Messi away from goal down the right and the Argentine forward eventually runs the ball out of play.
  • 39'
Barcelona will be kicking themselves at having only scored one so far, with Messi and Cesc both wasting some glorious chances to extend their side's lead.
  • 38'
ANOTHER SAVE!!! from...... yeh you guessed it, DIego Alves. He's been busy this evening, and after being caught out of position for Cesc's opener, he's made 4 or 5 vital saves to keep his side in this tie.
  • 36'
Valencia need to sort out their passing at the back, as they have given it away far too easily on a number of occasions so far this evening.
  • 35'
Cesc's goal tonight was his 15th of the season, and it's still only February!! What a first season he has had at Camp Nou.
  • 34'
Some wonderful interplay between Barcelona's players at times in the past twenty minutes, their whole team's movement and desire to be on the ball at all times is a joy to behold.
  • 32'
ANOTHER CHANCE GOES BEGGING!!! Diego Alves is on hand again to keep Valencia in it, saving low from Cesc after his defender's had given the ball away AGAIN on the edge of their own penalty area. Alves will no doubt be having words with his team-mates about how sloppy they have been in possession so far.
  • 31'
Valencia nearly counter again!! Banega's ball is slightly over-hit as Feghouli again attempts to split the two Barcelona centre-backs.
  • 30'
Barcelona are hassling Valencia in possession and they win the ball back three times in the space of seconds on the edge of the Valencia penalty area. The home side have shifted up a few gears over the course of this half.
  • 28'
Gerard Pique saunters his way down the left but is eventually dispossessed and Valencia look to counter with the Barca man out of position. Abidal does well to slot in and avert the danger though.
  • 26'
SAVE BY ALVES!! Xavi backheels the ball into Messi's path and his low effort is arrowing into the bottom corner before Alves scampers across to gather the ball. Poor from the Valencia wall there, that jumped over the ball!
  • 25'
Free-kick on the edge of the area for Barca after a foul by Victor Ruiz on Messi. He and Xavi discussing who will take this one...
  • 24'
Don't forget guys, you can get in touch with me on twitter @charliefscott if you want to give me your views on the game so far, or tell me how you expect the rest of the match to pan out. Most of you so far expecting a comfortable Barcelona win. Don't forget though, Valencia are dangerous on the counter attack, as Feghouli showed with his early effort into the side netting.
  • 22'
    Yellow Card Aritz Aduriz Zubeldia
Valencia's Aduriz receives a yellow card for a horrible challenge on Thiago. That could have been the end of his night there if he hadn't jumped out of the way.
  • 21'
The home side have settled down now after looking fragile at the back in the opening exchanges. They have really upped their game in the last few minutes.
  • 20'
Messi is starting to take a grip on this game. He runs at the Valencia defence, who back off, back off, and eventually get a last ditch tackle in just as the Argentine threatens to shoot.
  • 19'
SAVE FROM ALVES!!!! Only Adil Rami will know what was going through his head there as he was easily dispossessed by Lionel Messi, the striker flying into the penalty area and having his shot saved by Diego Alves. Redemption for the Valencia keeper?
  • 17'
Messi with the assist there, from inside his own half!! Fantastic pass.
  • 16'
    Goal Cesc Fàbregas
GOOOOOAAAAALLLL FOR BARCELONA!!! A really neat finish from Cesc Fabregas after a fabulous pass set the Spanish international free inside the area. Diego Alves with some suspect positioning in the Valencia goal there.
  • 15'
Jordi Alba manages to hold off Alexis down the right after the Chilean looked to have evaded his marker. Good defending.
  • 14'
Barcelona's passing has been unrecognisable at times so far. I think I even saw Xavi misplace a pass there, and that does not happen often!!
  • 13'
WOW, NOW THAT IS CLOSE!!!! Tiago plays Feghouli in on the counter attack but his well-struck effort flies agonisingly into the side netting. Great play from Valencia.
  • 12'
Some lovely interplay in midfield from Barca but Ever Banega is there to snuff out the danger with a couple of meaty challenges.
  • 11'
Barcelona threaten for the first time through Isaac Cuenca down the left. Xavi does well to find the youngster on the edge of the box but his eventual cross is dealt with comfortably by Adil Rami.
  • 9'
A really encouraging start from Valencia, the home side are struggling to get a hold of the ball at the moment.
  • 7'
Jordi Alba threatening down the left side for Valencia, his side will look to get him in the game as much as possible, after he put in a good performance against the Catalan side last week.
  • 6'
Valencia have conceded just 17 away goals in 17 away games this season, they will be hoping to continue that fine defensive form against the likes of Messi and Alexis tonight.
  • 5'
Barcelona are not liking the intensity of Valencia's pressing so far. A few sloppy passes from Guardiola's side already.
  • 4'
Victor Luiz nearly gets on the end of a Jeremy Mathieu half volley inside the area. Valencia starting brightly here.
  • 2'
That free-kick amounts to nothing, as Barcelona clear the ball to safety. Banega then has a wild shot from distance that sails wide.
  • 1'
Feghouli wins an early free-kick outside Barcelona's penalty area after brilliant pressure on Eric Abidal. Ever Banega to take...
  • Valencia get us under way...
  • The teams are out on the pitch now, and we are just minutes from kick-off here at Camp Nou. High hopes for this one following the entertaining first leg at Mestalla last week.
  • The teams are out on the pitch now, and we are just minutes from kick-off here at Camp Nou. High hopes for this one following the entertaining first leg at Mestalla last week.
  • Aritz Aduriz replaces Soldado upfront for Valencia tonight. There is a lot of pressure on the forward with the man he replaces having been in such fine form this season. Remember, Valencia NEED a goal to have any chance of progressing tonight!
  • If any of you out there are Twitter fans like me, feel free to tweet me your views on the teams tonight or your match predictions to @charliefscott.
  • Cristian Tello impressed, and scored, on his full debut against Real Sociedad at the weekend, and I think it's fair to say that Pep clearly has yet another precociously talented youngster on his hands. Tello takes his place on the bench tonight but Barcelona's starting eleven sees the return of a few familiar faces that were rested for all or most of the game against Sociedad, including; Xavi Hernandez, Gerard Pique and Alexis Sanchez. Barca have also been boosted by the return from injury of Andres Iniesta, and he is named as one of the substitutes.
  • Valencia (4-2-3-1): Alves; Miguel, Rami, V. Ruiz, Jordi Alba; Albelda, Banega; Feghouli, Jonas, Mathieu; Aduriz
  • Barcelona (4-3-3): Pinto; Puyol, Piqué, Mascherano, Abidal; Fàbregas, Xavi, Thiago; Alexis, Messi, Cuenca
  • Here come the teams...
  • For the winner? A Copa del Rey final awaits.
  • Good evening and welcome to's coverage of this tonight's Copa del Rey second leg semi-final fixture between Barcelona and Valencia from Camp Nou. I'm Charlie Scott and I'll be guiding you through tonight's action. Pep Guardiola's men are just about favourites going into this clash having scored an away goal at Mestalla to draw the first leg 1-1 last week. Valencia had the measure of their opponents in that first leg but will no doubt be disheartened that Roberto Soldado, their main goal threat, is sidelined with flu this evening. If Valencia are to progress they will have to score, after Carles Puyol gave his side the away goal advantage with his header last week.
