Barcelona cruised into the round of 16 of the Copa del Rey with a sound 9-0 thrashing of Hospitalet at Camp Nou on Thursday, winning the tie 10-0 on aggregate.

However, the Catalans also suffered an unfortunate development as midfielder Andres Iniesta was forced to leave the pitch with an injury in the first half after scoring a goal.

Pedro, Thiago Alcantara, Xavi and Tello also got on the scoresheet as Barcelona entered the half-time interval with a five-goal advantage. Further strikes by Isaac Cuenca (2), Thiago and Tello after the break rounded off a fine night for the hosts, who can now enjoy their winter break.

Pep Guardiola's men showed they meant business right from the start as they proceeded to lay a siege on Carlos Craviotto's goal.

It was not long before the opener came as in the 10th minute Cuenca earned a questionable penalty after he was allegedly fouled by Moussa Kandeh.

Soon after, a great exchange of passes between Cesc Fabregas and Xavi saw the 31-year-old add another goal to make it 4-0.

Substitute Tello also got on the scoresheet before half-time as Barca entered the break with a five-goal lead.

The second period saw Cuenca find the target in the 49th minute, and Thiago completed his brace shortly after when he slotted home a penalty just before the hour mark.

Youngster Tello also netted his second goal soon as Barcelona were closing in on double digits result.

In the 81st minute Cuenca netted his second of the night to round off an impressive result for Pep Guardiola's team.

Barcelona will now rest during the holiday season before returning to action on January 8 when they travel to play Espanyol in league action.
