Live Commentary

  • That's all from me folks; it is going to be an amazing la Liga season ahead says I. Keep it Goal Int'l for developments of the la Liga strikes. Ta ta for now.
  • Lionel Messi was the difference come the end of the match, and it was some match. The uglyness of the closing stages was a blotch on an otherwise fantastic match. Bodes well for the remainder of the season says I.
  • 90' + 6'
Madrid move forward once more, to this never-ending game but the rock solid Mascherano clears the ball away. It comes again, but Barca clear AND THAT'S THAT!
  • 90' + 5'
    Red Card Mesut Özil
  • 90' + 5'
    Red Card David Villa
  • 90' + 5'
Marcelo walks, without a word and rightly so. It was a scissor challenge, taking Fabregas' legs away from him; what followed was nothing more than a schoolboy ruckus. Damaging scenes to the El Clasico once more, but don't let it detract from what a spectacle this has been.
  • 90' + 4'
    Red Card Marcelo
  • 90' + 4'
LATE DRAMA! Marcelo is shown a straight red after a disgusting challenge on Fabregas. The Brazilian came crashing in with studs galore causing the entire bench to jump to their feet. Incredible scenes.
  • 90' + 3'
Barcelona are squeezing Real Madrid, finding every last bit of energy they have. They force Coentrao into launching a ball into the area and Valdes comes along way to clutch it out of the air. Late drama.....
  • 90' + 2'
    Yellow Card Víctor Valdés
  • 90' + 2'
Two minutes left to play, booking for Victor Valdes for time-wasting.
  • 90' + 1'
Fabregas makes a wonderful tackle on Higuain who was looking to move the ball forward and launch a Madrid attack. Instead, Fabregas' through ball evades Pepe's outstretched leg and gifts Messi a chance to complete his hat-trick but for a desperate lunge from Casillas' right foot.
  • 90'
That goal means no injury time, one goal for los Blancos will see them win it on the away goals rule. There is alot to play for in these closing moments.
  • 89'
It's a beautiful move; Fabregas works the ball to Adriano who knocks the ball to Messi. The Argentine gives it back to Adriano who had run in behind the Madrid defence, a fine pull-back picks out Lionel Messi who slides in to fire the ball beyond Iker Casillas. Winning goal?
  • 88'
    Assist Adriano
  • 88'
    Goal Messi
  • 88'
    GOALLL!!!!!! LIONEL MESSI!!!!!
  • 87'
Marcelo looks to get in ahead of Dani Alves and does exactly that but he is unlucky to see the ball squirm through to to Alves who pushes and runs but Carvalho is alert to the danger to put the ball behind.
  • 85'
    SubstitutionBusquets Seydou Keita
  • 85'
    Yellow Card Fabio Coentrao
  • 85'
Coentrao makes a clever darting run forward unmarked and Marcelo finds him with a smart chip but the touch from the Madrid man is too heavy and Fabregas cleans up the danger with the minimal amount of fuss.
  • 84'
In the middle of that mayhem, somebody named Fabregas was brought on for Barcelona. Not sure who is in, but he is meant to be good. Let's see.
  • 83'
Barcelona take the ball toward the Madrid goal straight after the restart and Carvalho comes acorss to put the ball away for a corner kick. The Portuguese man seems to be in some discomfort following that interception but he is going to soldier on.
  • 82'
    SubstitutionPedro Cesc Fàbregas
  • 81'
    Assist Pepe
  • 81'
    Goal Karim Benzema
  • 81'
Kaka's corner should be cleared by Adriano but he fails to connect and the ball squeezes through to a waiting Benzema. The Frenchman turns the ball towards goal only to be denied by a superb Valdes save but no Barca defender moves and Pepe nods it back to Benzema who turns and fires in. Barcelona 2-2 Real Madrid. Extra-time anyone?
  • 81'
GOAL!!!!! BENZEMA!!!! It ain't beautiful but it's vital!!!
  • 80'
Ronaldo earns a throw-in after a quick Madrid break but despite winning the first header the flick-on is high and looping into Valdes' hands.
  • 79'
Pedro latches onto Dani Alves' forward pass and he has Marcelo scrambling for a split second before the Brazilian recovers brilliantly to touch the ball away from the Spain international.
  • 78'
    SubstitutionMesut Özil Kaká
  • 77'
Benzema has looked out of sorts tonight; he is one-on-one against Dani Alves but is unable to work the ball into a crossing position and Barcelona clear after Ramos clatters into Adriano. Welcome to proceedings Adriano.
  • 76'
    Yellow Card Sergio Ramos
  • 75'
Head-tennis around the middle of the pitch as Ronaldo rises above Abidal and Busquets, good battle that one. Xabi Alonso reads the second bounce, as you'd have been told as a youth football; "think about the second bounce" was what I grew up with. The Spaniard does that superbly and earns a free-kick in the process.
  • 74'
Moment of panic in the Barcelona area as Ronaldo bares down on the ball; but Mascherano steams across and nods the ball away from everyone before launching the ball forward.
  • 73'
    SubstitutionDavid Villa Adriano
  • 73'
Adriano replaces David Villa. Defensive move from Pep Guardiola, Adriano expected to play just ahead of Abidal on the left side.
  • 72'
Ronaldo crosses his arms in frustration. A heavy touch from Abidal gives CR7 a chance but as he comes forward Abidal touches the ball away from the Madrid striker before bundling over a leg of Ronaldo's that wasn't there. Cue dramatic Ronaldo.
  • 71'
SERGIO RAMOS! Mesut Ozil swings the ball in and Ramos comes storming in and should do so much better. He has a free header, six yards out and gets over the ball only to direct it wide of the target. No men on the posts for Barcelona, anywhere except at VV would have seen the scores levelled.
  • 69'
Madrid work a corner soon after following good work from Marcelo and the ball falls to Benzema at the far post. The ball is dropping, asking to be hit and the Frenchman obliges but his sliced volley misses the target by some distance.
  • 68'
BUSQUETS! The corner is whipped in from Xavi and Busquets loses Pepe but gets underneath it puts his header high of the target.
  • 67'
Messi combines with Iniesta after the latter had waltzed beyond Madrid's defence before giving the ball to the Argentine. Messi shifted it onto his left foot and found room to shoot but Casillas got down low to push the ball behind for a corner kick.
  • 66'
Madrid sniff a chance as Higuain works the ball wide to Benzema who cuts back inside. He has a chance to bend one into the far corner but looks to play a reverse pass which Dani Alves read brilliantly to intercept.
  • 65'
Long and wasterful from Madrid as nobody is moving. Mourinho, sporting a casual polo moves out into the touchline to usher his players as he introduces Higuain for Di Maria.
  • 64'
    SubstitutionÁngel Di María Gonzalo Higuaín
  • 64'
Messi picks himself up to take the resulting free-kick and finds David Villa with a fine ball but the Spanish striker had gone too early and the flag is raised.
  • 63'
Stop. Start. Stop. Start. Been the story of the second half so far. Barcelona then put me to shame as they find space and Messi and Xavi work a smart on two before Lionel Messi pushes the ball beyond Pepe and is on his way but the Madrid defender positions himself expertly to deny Messi from getting beyond him. Yellow card for Pepe.
  • 62'
    Yellow Card Pepe
  • 62'
Marcelo is tested by a quick flick from David Villa on the right-hand side but the Brazilian is quick on his feet and manages to clear the ball away.
  • 61'
Messi is cut a frustrated figure out there as he is adjudged to have fouled Ramos and then hacks the ball away. Unlike the Argentine.
  • 60'
Acrobatics from Pedro in the challenge against Sergio Ramos, but credit to the Madrid player there; he didn't make the most of the decision and just picked himself up and carried on.
  • 59'
The two full-backs combine as Marcelo sends a rasping cross-field ball to Sergio Ramos who never gets the ball under control and his then pulled-up for climbing on the back of Abidal.
  • 57'
Interesting. Unnoticed by the referee; a second ball comes onto the pitch and falls to Lionel Messi who could kick the ball off. Instead he fires it towards where Madrid are playing the ball around....Ozil then smashes the second ball out to ironic cheers. Only Carvalho spotted that action of Messi; trivial.
  • 56'
    Yellow Card Marcelo
  • 56'
Dani Alves reads a diagonal ball from Xabi Alonso lying deep and manages to get there ahead of Ronaldo with a strong header. Moments later he does it again with Madrid threatening.
  • 55'
And Marcelo booked for the challenge.
  • 54'
    Yellow Card C. Ronaldo
  • 54'
    Yellow Card Javier Mascherano
  • 54'
Naughty naughty. Marcelo realises he is jumping underneath the ball with Messi running beyond the full-back to which Marcelo kicks-out at the Argentine to prevent him from collecting the loose ball. Handbags follow as Ronaldo earns himself a yellow card for contesting the decision.
  • 53'
Pepe and David Villa have a coming together, the Madrid defender is lunging from side to side behind the striker before finding a way around him and then falling to the ground causing Villa to smile and laugh as the official flags for a free-kick. Amusing. Madrid free-kick.
  • 52'
Victor Valdes clears his lines in an unorthodox fashion and it looks to be a superb ball forward to David Villa but the striker is flagged for coming back from an offside position.
  • 51'
Barcelona make a rare mistake working the ball out of defendce as the Madrid players push high up the pitch but Barca stay calm as Pique clears following a loose pass from Coentrao.
  • 49'
Valdes comes way out of the safety of his area, and not for the first time tonight, to clear away the danger following promising work from Madrid. Solid work from the Barcelona No. 1 again there.
  • 48'
Promising position here for Xabi Alonso to swing in a free-kick from deep as dangermen Carvalho and Pepe swagger forward but the ex-Liverpool star uncharacteristicly overhits his delivery and the ball goes out harmlessly.
  • 46'
    SubstitutionSami Khedira Marcelo
  • 46'
Los Blancos win an early corner in the second half and Sergio Ramos is left unmarked at the far post but he can't leap high enough and the ball skims off the top of his head. In fact, Benzema was lurking behind him and that would have been interesting had the ball reached the in-form striker.
  • 45'
Real Madrid start of us in this second half, with Coentrao pushing into midfielder with Marcelo slotting into that left-back position.
  • Substitution to tell you of at the break; Marcelo has entered the arena with Khedira the man who has seen is evening come to a premature close.
  • The boys are back in the tunnel, Madrid before Barcelona. As it stands Barcelona are going to retain the Supercopa; one goal for Madrid will mean extra-time...could be a long night.
  • Just a quick side-note; Messi has now bettered Raul's record for Supercopa goals. How more records is this lil' master going to knock over?
  • Fabregas in the second half anybody?
  • adamjld on Twitter: Ronaldo having plenty of opportunities against Alves but second best so far. If he can get past him, Real will profit big time.
  • Quite a half of football. El Clasico really is the way to describe that, tweet us your thoughts (@dquintonnavarro or @goal_intl and the #Supercopa) for some half-time musings.
  • 45'
    Assist Piqué
  • 45'
    Goal Messi
  • 45'
Barcelona threaten before the half-time break as they enjoy the last of the possession before the referee brings the opening stages to a close. As you were gents - this time in the first leg was Real Madrid 1-2 Barcelona.
  • 44'
The corner doesn't beat the first man but the clearing header reaches Messi on the edge of the area. The Argentine chests the ball into the path of Pique, whose intelligent back-heel returns the ball to a surging Messi. The Argentine moves the ball past Khedira and Ronaldo before deftly chipping over a helpless Casillas into the far corner. Stunning.
  • 44'
GOAL!!!! LIONEL MESSI!!! He kisses his badge following his goal, superb!
  • 43'
Pedro appears on the left to try his hand against Sergio Ramos who does well to block the low cross for a corner kick to Barcerlona....
  • 42'
    Yellow Card Xavi
  • 42'
Xavi becomes the second man in the book for a crashing challenge on Coentrao who was looking to bring the ball out Madrid's defence. Cynical that one was.
  • 42'
This time Ronaldo is to the left of Barcelona's area and offers an array of tricks, and skill before Javier Mascherano comes across, slides and disposesses the Madrid striker. Simple football.
  • 41'
WOAH! It isn't a glorious chance, or a superb challenge. It is far superior to either of those; it is Ronaldo defending! Yes, the Portuguese man tracks back to get in front of a waiting Lionel Messi.
  • 40'
KHEDIRA! He has to be careful. The German stumbles into the back of Iniesta in the middle of the pitch, six-of-one scenario and the referee gives Barcelona the decision. Would have been harsh on the German that one.
  • 39'
Wonderful challenge from Pepe. Barcelona work it once, twice, thrice...and more before Pique rolls the ball to Iniesta who drops his shoulder but Pepe comes in with a perfect sliding challenge before hacking the ball clear. Football at its purest.
  • 38'
LIONEL MESSI. A beautiful burst forward from Messi onto Iniesta's through ball and the Argentine is able to move away from Sergio Ramos to the left of Madrid's goal but a covering Pepe does enough to make Messi's shot less awkward for for his goalkeeper and Casillas gets a strong foot to it and clears the danger for the time being.
  • 36'
Villa in a more central role as Barcelona work it out from the back following a firm challenge from Mascherano. Messi, Xavi and Iniesta are all involved before Villa's touch is a tad heavy and the attack breaks down.
  • 35'
Moment of magic from Messi. He picks up a firm pass from Pique and touches the ball away from Xabi Alonso before drifting beyond Coentrao with minimal movement. The Argentine then looks the clip the ball toward Xavi but his pass isn't quite on the Spaniards path and Madrid are able to see out the danger.
  • 34'
Eric Abidal shows his skills as he is homed in on by Di Maria. The full-back moves into the corner before a slight of feet allows him to take the ball away from the Argentine.
  • 32'
Barcelona change defence into attack with one ball forward from Victor Valdes to Dani Alves and they nearly work it on but a misplaced placed pass puts Iniesta in trouble and he slides into Di Maria. The Barcelona player luck to get away with that one, very similiar to the challenge that Khedira was booked for.
  • 31'
The corner results in a tame effort from Karim Benzema which Valdes doesn't even watch go beyond his post as he ushers his defence out, motivating them for the next Barcelona attack.
  • 30'
OZIL! The German finds room in the Barcelona penalty area following great work from Benzema and Ozil tries to bend it into the far corner but his shot lacks any pace allowing VV to get down low and palm it around the post for a corner.
  • 28'
    Yellow Card Sami Khedira
  • 28'
PEDRO! The free-kick is quickly taken by Messi and the Real Madrid are caught cold, all apart from Casillas who races out to calmly collect the ball ahead of Pedro.
  • 27'
Khedira is the man that is shown the evening's first yellow card of the challenge for a late lunge on Sergio Busquets. Lionel Messi was left a frustrated figure as the break was on if the referee hadn't pulled up the German for the foul.
  • 26'
Ronaldo attempts a drive with that masterful skill, the toe-poke, but Victor Valdes gets his entire body behind the shot and punches the ball away from any danger.
  • 24'
Pedro is seeing a lot more of the ball all of a sudden and sends across a dangerous cross following quick footwork forcing Pepe to stoop low to clear with both Messi and Villa lurking.
  • 22'
From the resulting corner kick the ball is nodded onto the back post for David Villa who directs his header at goal but can only pick out a grateful Iker Casillas.
  • 21'
PEDRO! Barcelona comes close to restoring their lead as the ball falls for the Spanish international. He takes a touch before spotting Casillas off his line and attempts to curl on beyond the Madrid No. 1 but Casillas flings a hand and pushes it over the bar.
  • 20'
    Assist Karim Benzema
  • 20'
    Goal C. Ronaldo
  • 20'
The corner kick is cleared away as far as Karim Benzema, with no Barcelona player closing him down the striker turns before hitting a cross-cum-shot which Ronaldo turns in. Immediate reply from los Blancos. Barcelona 1-1 Real Madrid.
  • 20'
  • 19'
INCREDIBLE! Real Madrid come close to levelling after a rare Fabio Coentrao forray forward see's the ball chipped beyond a stationary Barcelona defence for Khedira but the German hesitates for an instants and Barcelona clear away for a corner kick....
  • 18'
Barcelona have a spring in their play now as they seem to be finding the spaces that the weren't able to before. That man, Lionel Messi, once again spins off his man before kick-starting an attack by bringing David Villa into play but the striker had wandered too far upfield and the flag was correctly raised.
  • 16'
Real Madrid must, that is must, now score two goals if they are going to regain the Supercopa from their greatest rivals tonight.
  • 15'
    Goal Iniesta
  • 15'
    Assist Messi
  • 15'
Lionel Messi picks the ball up wide on the far touchline, the lil' Argentine escapes Khedira and finds the perfect ball for Andres Iniesta who had run from deep. The Spanish international has an age, flirting with the idea of going around Casillas before chipping over the 'keeper with supreme precision. Barcelona 1-0 Real Madrid.
  • 15'
  • 14'
MESSI! Iker Casillas does brilliantly to clear the danger following a low cross from Pedro. Messi had managed to peel away from his marker and darted toward the near post to get on the end of Pedro's drilled pass but Casillas is alert to the danger and gets a foot to the ball to clear away the danger.
  • 13'
Ronaldo drives in a low cross from the left-flank, and Mascherano gets a toe to the ball which takes out some of the pace but with no man in the middle the ball is calmly watched by Valdes and Barcelona clear.
  • 12'
Eric Abidal, back in his customary left back position, does well to read the ball inside and shifts the ball clear but Real Madrid come once again. Di Maria carries the ball forward before being halted by a tenacious Javier Mascherano tackle.
  • 11'
Nervous moment for Valdes as he comes way out of his goal to take care of a high hanging ball, and despite miss reading the bounce touches out for a throw-in with Ronaldo threatening.
  • 10'
Karim Benzema comes wide in search of the ball and touches it past Dani Alves but the presence of Sergio Busquets unnerves the striker and marshalls the ball out for a Barcelona goal-kick.
  • 9'
Easy from Barcelona as they long to find their feet in the game with little triangles across the field before Mascherano goes long for Pedro who has spun of his man but the ball has too much on it and goes for a Madrid throw-in.
  • 8'
Victor Valdes, for what seems like the first time in history, opts to go long but it is a delicate chip to Pedro whose lay off back to Dani Alves is snapped on by Ronaldo but the Brazilian recovers well and manages to work it in field to Xavi.
  • 7'
Frantic opening to the sixth El Clasico of the calendar year as Coentrao is tested by Pedro for the first time, and with the aid of Pepe, Madrid take the ball away and launch a quick counter attack which CR7 wastes.
  • 5'
Barca keep the ball with ease as the expectant crowd feel a shot is coming back the home-side work the ball once or twice more before Dani Alves is flagged for returning from an offside position.
  • 4'
Sergio Busquets is clattered in the middle of the pitch by Carvalho but advantage is waved as the midfield general managed to shift the ball out to Pedro. The Blaugrana threaten before rebuilding from defence and Dani Alves.
  • 4'
David Villa looks to push the ball beyond Pepe, back into central defence, but the defender gets infront of Villa and earns himself a soft freekick after being bundled over.
  • 3'
Good early signs for los Blancos as they are enjoying the ball at feet. Angel di Maria shows quick feet to take it beyond three Barcelona players before trying to slide the ball through to Benzema, but the Frenchman had gone a fraction ealry and was correctly flagged offside.
  • 1'
Madrid begin by pressing up the pitch early on and Xavi is caught in possession just outside his own area. Xabi Alonso works the ball out to Ronaldo who fires a shot straight at VV in Barca's goal before it is hacked out for the the first corner of the game.
  • Barcelona to get us underway, moving from right-to-left in the customary blue and burgundy against an all-white Real Madrid. Here. We. Go.
  • Iker Casillas and Xavi are in the middle for the coin toss in a packed Camp Nou, with minutes to kick-off. We are nearly there before we find out who is going to win the first trophy of the Spanish season.
