Player Ratings: Chievo 0-1 AC Milan

Sulley Muntari's eighth-minute strike was enough to send the Rossoneri back to the top of Serie A despite a lethargic performance from the understrength visitors

    Stefano Sorrentino

Could do little to get across to Muntari’s long-range strike as it bobbled past him before he could reach it. Had little to do thereafter, though he was seemingly beaten by Ibrahimovic’s shot which flew just wide.

  • Francesco Acerbi

    Francesco Acerbi

Proved to be a real tough cookie, as well as showing real intelligence in the contact challenges. Looked stable when the ball was knocked either side of him in the foot race too.

  • Gennaro Sardo

    2.00

    Gennaro Sardo

Put in a couple of important blocks as Chievo looked to stay in the game after Muntari’s early goal, though he did look short of drive getting forward and an injury ended his night early.

  • Nicolas Sebastien Frey

    Nicolas Sebastien Frey

Kept the shape well and did ok getting forward down the left, before switching over to the right after Sardo went off and delivering to a similar extent.

  • Dario Dainelli

    2.50

    Dario Dainelli

A couple of fouls in quick succession before the interval saw him booked after he’d earlier looked to be in control in the battle with Ibrahimovic, but he also got in a couple of good challenges thereafter to help keep Chievo in the running.

  • Michael Bradley
    33
    4
    2.50

    Michael Bradley

Hit an abject free-kick well over, but his overall contribution was well above average. Kept things ticking over very well in the middle third, and his corners often asked questions of a ragged Milan back line.

  • Paolo Sammarco

    8
    3.00

    Paolo Sammarco

Worked hard down the right channel of the Chievo midfield, but it was no surprise when he was withdrawn to allow for the entrance of the more creative Luciano. Picked up a first-half booking too.

  • Luca Rigoni
    9
    8
    2.50

    Luca Rigoni

Kept himself busy patrolling the midfield for the most part, though he should maybe have hit the target when well placed.

  • Alberto Paloschi
    29
    4
    2.50

    Alberto Paloschi

Burst beyond Nesta with power and pace in the opening moments, and repeated the trick in the left channel a couple of times in the first half. Couldn’t continue getting the better of the centre-half after the break though, and he was replaced for the last 20 minutes.

  • Sergio Pellissier
    14
    12
    3.00

    Sergio Pellissier

Fired a decent effort just over the bar soon after Muntari’s opener, then saw a low drive brilliantly saved by Abbiati before Ibrahimovic deflected another of chance just over.

  • Cyril Thereau
    14
    23
    3.00

Cyril Thereau Flop of the Match

Couldn’t provide the killer balls in between the Milan back line as the home side looked to get themselves level, and his contribution in the second half was minimal to say the least.

Substitutions

    Bostjan Cesar

Replaced the injured Sardo late on.

  • R. Cruzado

    R. Cruzado

Paloschi’s replacement up front for the last 20 was unable to add a new dimension to the Flying Donkeys’ cause.

  • Luciano
    12
    6
    2.50

    Luciano

Brought on to add creativity to the Chievo midfield in place of Sammarco, but apart from the odd hit-and-hope cross and a wild shot, he couldn’t inject anything into the Flying Donkeys’ game.

  • Christian Abbiati
    153
    11
    3.50

    Christian Abbiati

Picked up a knock to his left foot in the first half but battled on bravely and made a fantastic save to thwart Pellissier soon after the break.

  • Alessandro Nesta
    229
    9
    3.00

    Alessandro Nesta

The fever-hit centre-back looked sluggish as Paloschi muscled past him early on, but his anticipation came to Milan’s rescue after a Muntari slip saw Chievo push forward. Only improved from there, and led the back line superbly for the most part.

  • Gianluca Zambrotta
    79
    53
    3.00

    Gianluca Zambrotta

Never looked fully up to speed whenever a Chievo player ran at him, and was booked for bringing down Pellissier just before the hour mark. Showed great experience later to see off a dangerous ball in behind for the striker.

  • Mattia De Sciglio
    179
    31
    3.00

    Mattia De Sciglio

Looked raw at times, but not out of his depth by any means. Occasionally lacked calm on the ball when he could have spotted a team-mate rather than play it into the channel, but it was one of few negatives.

  • Mario Yepes
    146
    14
    3.00

    Mario Yepes

Covered well after Nesta lost out to Paloschi, and was largely very solid, though he did let the ball run on a Luciano cross that he should have dealt with to cause a momentary panic for Abbiati. His late nose injury added to Milan’s current health woes.

  • Gennaro Ivan Gattuso
    156
    33
    3.00

    Gennaro Ivan Gattuso

Put in a good shift on his return to the starting lineup, but was less mobile than the Gennaro Gattuso we know and love. One decent run into the box couldn’t quite win him a corner, and was his last act before being replaced by El Shaarawy.

  • Sulley Muntari
    313
    22
    3.50

Sulley Muntari Top of the Match

Drilled a magnificent out-swinging shot from long range beyond Sorrentino to settle Milan’s early nerves, and his general performance was decent if not spectacular. Booked for bringing down Pellissier and almost talked his way into a red, but he was the Rossoneri's best battler in a dogged display.

  • Antonio Nocerino
    69
    80
    3.00

    Antonio Nocerino

His heavy touch when clean through was the difference between a 2-0 lead and a clattering from Stefano Sorrentino, but he continued to work the channel well. Dropped a couple of passes short when Milan were building momentum.

  • Zlatan Ibrahimovic
    152
    68
    2.50

    Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Regularly tried to get involved even though it was one of those games where Milan rarely got the ball up to him. Dropped back to help out in midfield on a number of occasions, and then almost struck when curling an effort from 25 yards just wide.

  • Robinho
    74
    122
    2.50

    Robinho

Brilliantly worked his way into space late in the first half, but saw his shot deflected wide of the near post. It was one of few highlights in the Brazilian’s evening before he was replaced by Emanuelson with a quarter of the match remaining.

Substitutions

  • Urby Emanuelson

    Urby Emanuelson

Brought on for Robinho for the final quarter, but when he had a great chance to send in Ibrahimovic he over hit the pass.

  • Rodney Strasser

    Rodney Strasser

    Late replacement for Seedorf.

  • Stephan El Shaarawy

    Stephan El Shaarawy

Replaced the tiring Gattuso just after the hour mark, but was unable to get a decent sight on goal.
