Argentina are without Javier Mascherano due to his dismissal in the Copa America quarter-final against Uruguay back in July. In his place may step Rodrigo Brana of Estudiantes or Sporting Lisbon's Fabian Rinaudo. Mario Andujar is likely to take the place of Sergio Romero if the Sampdoria stopper does not recover from a knock.

Chile are without two of their key players as Alexis Sanchez and Gary Medel both miss out through injury. Eduardo Vargas has been touted as an ideal replacement for the absent Barcelona forward, however it seems likely that Mauricio Pinilla will be preferred. Claudio Borghi sticks with his favoured 3-4-1-2 formation, giving Matias Fernandez the chance to pull the strings behind the strikers.

The hitman has 5 goals in 6 games for Real Madrid so far this season, including a hat-trick against Espanyol last weekend. This form should see him put in another top-class performance against a Chilean side likely to line up with 3 defenders. If they focus on containing Lionel Messi, Higuain may find a number of opportunities come his way.

Sporting Lisbon's midfield playmaker will be needed to conduct the attack for the away side. His vision, anticipation, and terrific passing ability will be integral if Chile are to stand a chance of causing an upset.
Prediction
Chile may struggle with the absence of Gary Medel and explosive forward Alexis Sanchez. Home advantage will definitely help Argentina in their bid to achieve a win in the opening World Cup 2014 Qualifier.
