A free-flowing attacking game of football from both sides did not result in a victory as Catania and Roma played out the remaining 25 minutes of their abandoned January 14 tie to a 1-1 draw.
The original match was abandoned in the 65th minute after officials deemed the conditions, which were a result of relentless rain, unsuitable for play. The game ended in a 1-1 draw after Danielle De Rossi's strike cancelled out Nicola Legrottaglie's earlier goal.
Clear skies overlooked the Stadio Angelo Massimino on Wednesday evening so fans and players alike would not bear witness to a repeat situation. What they were to see was a thrilling 25 minutes of football.
Luis Enrique's men nearly broke the deadlock moments after the restart as a deflection in Catania's 18-yard box found an unmarked Fabio Borini. The striker did not get enough power and accuracy on his point-blank diving header and as a result, it floated wide.

Gli Eliphanti threatened again when Christian Llama's strike with the outside of his foot was brilliantly parried away by Maarten Stekelenburg.
Roma charged forward and with a free-flowing attack, nearly found the back of the net. A lightning-quick one-touch passing move between Erik Lamela and Miralem Pjanic found an open Alesandro Rosi in front of goal. The midfielder struck a weak effort towards Tomas Kosicky and the goalkeeper was able to catch the shot.
Ultimately, each side's attacking play was cancelled out by the other and the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
With the tie, the Giallorossi have lost their chance to leap over Inter in the standings and remain in sixth, while Catania find themselves struggling in mid-table.
