Should have done a lot better with Xavi's free kick, which was relatively central towards the goal but made up for this with half a dozen outstanding one-on-one saves. Denied Fabregas and Pedro in the first half and also came out on top with excellent stops against Alexis and Iniesta.
Attacking play was decent down the right and linked up well with Jesus Navas in attacking positions. His defending could have been more polished as it was slightly desperate at times. However, did not sell himself to easily against the likes of Pedro and Iniesta down the left.
Made a few very important interceptions on passes through the middle from Iniesta and Xavi that would have seen a Barca player through on goal. Doggedly chased down the opposition midfielders to attempt to win back possession.
A game to forget for the Bosnia-Herzegovina international. Conceded the free kick which lead to Xavi's goal with a cynical foul on Adriano and was completely left for dead after being nutmegged by Messi in the lead up to Barca's second. Struggled to deal with the movement of the opposition attackers.
Did well to re-organise the defence after Barcelona's two goals put the Catalans in contrl. Made a few excellent interceptions on eye-of-the-needle passes from the Barca front line and was very dominant aerially.
Had his hands full as he had to deal with an on-form Dani Alves running at pace on the overlap, which he struggled to handle. Failed to spot the run of the Brazilian on a number of occasions but did better when Sevilla defended more tightly at the back.
Had an interesting duel with Adriano down the right-hand side and got the better of the Brazilian a few times with his electric pace. His delivery could have been better, however, as his crosses were shallow into the box. Still showed plenty of endeavour down the flank and was Sevilla's most dangerous player.
Had some joy when spraying the ball around from deeper positions but could not find any room to pick out passes in the final third. This effected his ability to create chances for his team-mates and hurt Barca. Was taken off just before the hour mark.
José Antonio Reyes
Started the match on the left-hand side and failed to make any kind of an impact. Midway through the first half, he drifted inside and started to link up play between midfield and attack. However, as the match progressed he found himself isolated and was eventually substituted.
Held the ball up well and almost scored with a terrific chested touch and swivelled half-volley in the first half. However, was slightly let down by his team-mates as the service into the area was not enough for him to feed off.
Manu del Moral
Sevilla's two best chances of the match fell to the frontman but he failed to convert both times. Showed good anticipation to take advantage of Pique's lack of concentration at the back but his header, which came back off the crossbar, was an easy chance. Also used his wrong foot at the back post when he latched on to Navas' deep cross.
Made a great save from a Manu shot towards his near post and also turned round a deflected Kanoute effort around. However, he should have communicated better with Pique for Manu's header against the woodwork as neither player showed any initiative to clear the ball.
Got up and down the right flank with outstanding athleticism throughout the match and was dangerous when dribbling at pace towards the Sevilla defence. Got decent service into the box and did not allow Reyes or Perotti room in defence to get crosses in. Saved Barca with a fantastic last ditch challenge on Kanoute in the second half.
Almost awarded Sevilla a way back into the match in the first half when a horrible lapse in concentration allowed Manu to sneak in and hit the bar. Before this he had a number of decent signature runs out of defence but after the error, he concentrated on defending without mistakes.
Made a perfectly-timed interception on Manu when the Sevilla man looked poised to have a shot on goal inside the box. His pace at the back was also well utilised as he got back quickly whenever Barca's high defensive line was penetrated.
Was involved in an entertaining match-up with Navas down the wing, although he allowed the Spaniard to get the better of him a couple of times. A few occasions he won the ball back with solid tackles, and won the free kick which resulted in Xavi's goal with a marauding run through the middle.
Displayed class in his touch and passing throughout the match and set up Messi's goal with an incisive delivery through the middle. Should have put the match to bed for Barca when he found himself through on goal and attempted to chip Palop, but saw his attempt go wide.
His final pass could have been a lot better at times as on more than one occasion he languished in possession and found himself rushing his pass. Did show plenty of class throughout the match but should have scored when through on goal only for his weak shot to be saved by Palop.
Orchestrated the play in a more advanced position than usual for Barca. With Busquets sitting deep and dictating passes this allowsed Xavi to venture forward and pick out precise passes. Got the ball rolling for Barcelona with a terrific whipped free kick into the top corner.
Should have been on the scoresheet. Went through on goal early doors and saw his stabbed attempt saved by Palop, and also shot tamely on goal from the edge of the box when he had plenty of time. However, relentlessly chased down the Sevilla defenders and won the ball back in advanced positions.
Was involved in a midfield battle and showed plenty of grit when dealing with the dirtier side of the game. Mopped up the play in front of the Barca defence time and again and his passing was neat, tidy and calm as usual.
Scored his 150th La Liga strike with a truly magical goal in the first half. Left Spahic for dead with a cheeky nutmeg on the edge of the box before majestically chipping the ball over Palop into the top corner. His touch was typically assured and left Sevilla attempting to foul him simply to stop him.
- 13 Javi Varas
- 34 Deivid
Came on for Spahic at the back and looked out of sorts.
Replaced Rakitic on the hour mark and covered a lot of ground, but lacked the passing ability of the Croatian to create any chances.
- 9 Negredo
- 25 B. Diawara
Replaced Reyes in the second half, but much like the Spaniard, failed to get into the match.
- 13 Pinto
- 26 Muniesa
Late substitution .
- 11 Thiago Alcântara
Was clattered by Cala shortly after his introduction but recovered from this and helped Barca see out the game.
Should have scored when he ran through on goal after he came on but stumbled and saw his effort saved by Palop.
