Player Ratings: Olympique Lyonnais 4-4 Paris Saint-Germain

A breathtaking game at Stade Gerland saw the two Ligue 1 heavyweights share eight goals, and Goal.com was on hand to rate all those who took part in a clash to remember

    Hugo Lloris

Produced a world-class save to deny Pastore midway through the first half, and would do so again late on from Nene. Did well to shut the angle down when Hoarau shot wide when clean through in the first period, and was largely blameless with the goals he did concede.

  • Cris

    Cris Flop of the Match

It was the Brazilian’s clumsy challenge that led to the free kick from which the opening goal was scored from. When he pushed forward on his trademark runs out of defence, he was caught out of position, allowing the visitors holes to exploit. It seems ‘Le Policier’s’ time has been and gone.

  • Baky

    Baky

At times was guilty of diving in a little rashly, but the defender was left badly exposed by his colleagues in the centre of the field and central defensive partner Cris.

  • Anthony Réveillère

    Anthony Réveillère

Tried to push forward as much as possible to exploit the guests’ lack of pace but also restrict Nene’s influence. The right-back was certainly a fine offensive threat, and he managed to stifle the Brazilian relatively well, although whenever the former Monaco man got space he seemed to create something.

  • Aly Cissokho

    Aly Cissokho

Something of a strange game from the left-back, whose most notable moment was a last-ditch tackle to prevent a late equaliser. PSG tended to focus their attacks down the channels, and he struggled to tuck in, while he didn’t make a great offensive impact either.

  • Kim Källström

    Kim Källström

Touted for a move to Rubin Kazan earlier this week, the Swede remains with Lyon at least until the summer, but he looked distracted and tired by the attention. Delivered his usual quality of set pieces, including the cross for Briand’s goal, but his influence as a destructive player was limited.

  • Michel Fernandes Bastos

    Michel Fernandes Bastos

Boasting a newly shaven head, the Brazilian was clearly hoping for a change in his recent form, and that’s exactly what he got. Didn’t make much of an impact down the left, but when switched to the right he created Lisandro’s goal and then scored a volley of the highest quality. Didn't have the same influence after the break, but did deliver the corner from which Briand scored.

  • Maxime Gonalons

    Maxime Gonalons

A, frankly, stupid foul on Nene inside the box as half time approached allowed PSG a way back into the game. The holding midfielder rather lost his head in this game and was lucky not to be sanctioned for a very high boot on Hoarau earlier. Not the level we’ve become accustomed to seeing from the anchor.

  • Bafetimbi Gomis
    49

    3.50

    Bafetimbi Gomis

Offered the first real moment of excitement in the game, spinning away from one challenge before unleashing a fierce shot that zipped just over the top thanks to a Sirigu save. Missed a glaring headed chance from close range just after PSG opened the scoring, but made amends with a well-taken volley soon afterwards.

  • Lisandro López

    Lisandro López

When he slipped to try and convert an early Reveillere cross, it seemed that the Argentine’s mediocre form was set to continue, but he would finish superbly to give his side the lead from a Bastos cross. Worked hard but got little reward.

  • Jimmy Briand
    43

    Jimmy Briand

Spun away from Alex on one occasion to draw a save from Sirigu, but he was the least effective of the home attackers in the first half. After the break his level improved, scoring a nice header and starting to get the better of Jallet.

    Salvatore Sirigu

Saved excellently from Gomis early in the first period, but from the resultant corner he uncharacteristically flapped, allowing Lyon a good chance. Forget the first three goals – he had simply no chance with any of those – and even the fourth would have required an outstanding save.

  • Mamadou Sakho
    17
    28
    2.00

    Mamadou Sakho

His place in the side has come under scrutiny in recent weeks, and this was not the kind of convincing performance that the young France defender regularly produces. Caught out of position and lacked his usual authority.

  • Alex
    20
    21
    2.50

    Alex

Nearly scored a replica of his goal against Montpellier with a thumping free kick. Found life difficult against Gomis, as he was spun when he marked the striker closely and left the goal exposed when he stood off too much. Didn’t look at all comfortable with Lyon’s pace and power, although he improved after the break, making a couple of telling blocks.

  • Maxwell
    17
    22
    2.50

    Maxwell

A really difficult evening for the former Barcelona player, who had a hard time containing Lyon’s threat down his channel. Previously, he’s also been a meaningful offensive threat for PSG, but that was not the case on this occasion.

  • Christophe Jallet
    16
    10
    2.50

    Christophe Jallet

Shook off a knock to start in the right-back role, and was happy to push forward into the gaps that Lyon left down his side. Stifled the threat of Bastos when he was on the left and then shackled Briand for a long period before allowing his performance to tail off in the second half.

  • Jérémy Menez
    23
    12
    2.00

    Jérémy Menez

Finished last weekend’s match against Montpellier on a high, and took that momentum into this clash, showing some nice feet early on. As the game wore on, he became too greedy and started to make poor decisions regularly, leading to his withdrawal with 20 minutes to go.

  • Nenê
    48
    8
    2.50

    Nenê

Wasn’t a persistent threat in this clash, but when he was involved, he tended to do something useful. Managed to win and score the penalty kick, although this was rather gifted to him. Overcomplicated things at times.

  • Mohamed Lamine Sissoko
    28
    13
    2.50

    Mohamed Lamine Sissoko

After a slow start to the game, the former Juventus man dominated for a period with his physical presence but then faded badly. Out-jumped by Briand as Lyon struck their fourth of the evening.

  • Javier Pastore
    59
    15

    Javier Pastore

Returning to the starting XI after injury, the Argentine was confident enough to try some silky flicks in the middle of the park, adding the kind of fluency that has been missing from PSG of late. Was a goal threat, too, and unlucky to see a fine header pushed clear by Lloris. Did lack fitness and his influence faded before he was withdrawn.

  • Thiago Motta
    19
    33
    2.50

    Thiago Motta

Still finding his feet in this PSG side, and that showed in this encounter. His passing was a little slack and he struggled to make a real impact at either end of the field.

  • Guillaume Hoarau
    114
    13
    3.50

Guillaume Hoarau Top of the Match

Given just a second Ligue 1 start of the season, he once again produced the goods for his coach, converting a clever free kick neatly into the corner of the net. Might have added another before the break, but shot wide after Lloris made his life deceptively tough. After a quiet second half, he came good at the end, scoring a magnificent header.

Came on for Menez with 20 minutes remaining. Missed a superb late chance, but that will be forgotten about following Hoarau’s equaliser.

  • Kevin Gameiro

    10

    Kevin Gameiro

Given the last 30 minutes in place of Pastore. Worked hard for the side, created chances for others, but his own finishing was below par.
