    Manuel Neuer

Put under relatively little pressure overall, but managed one brilliant save late in the game. Had one bad touch that led to a corner, a situation in which Naldo nearly scored.

  • Daniel Van Buyten

    Daniel Van Buyten

As has so often been the case this season, the Belgian proved immense at the back for long spells. His one mistake, though, came shortly after the break as his failure to stay with Naldo almost resulted in a goal.

  • Jerome Boateng

    3.00

    Jerome Boateng

Continues to prove himself as a fine right-sided defender, even if he prefers to play in the centre. Rarely looked troubled, although his passing did occasionally leave something to be desired.

  • Philipp Lahm
    113

    3.50

    Philipp Lahm

Came close to scoring on the counter-attack early on, and overall linked extremely well with Ribery. Locked down his flank extremely well, and kept the pressure on Werder each time the ball was lost.

  • David Alaba

    David Alaba

His one highlight was a stunning through-ball to set up Ribery's opener - otherwise, the Austrian was a bit quiet. His withdrawal upon Robben's introduction sadly proves that at 19 years of age he is still not yet at high enough a level to contend for a starting role.

  • Holger Badstuber
    72
    23
    3.00

    Holger Badstuber

Had, like Van Buyten, a relatively quiet game. Distributed the ball well from the back and delivered some good set plays. Was out-jumped in one instance.

  • Franck Ribéry
    251

Franck Ribéry Top of the Match

Man of the match, easily. Scored a stunning opener, won a penalty, and netted another, even if the latter he literally took off Gomez's foot. Brilliant from the Frenchman, who freely moved across the attack, wreaking havoc everywhere he went.

  • Luiz Gustavo
    69
    15
    3.00

    Luiz Gustavo

Was a bit slow to the ball: he lost the vast majority of challenges, but to his credit usually protected the back four by denying depth between himself and defenders for Marin to run into.

  • Toni Kroos
    147
    9
    3.00

    Toni Kroos

A bit more ordinary than he has played in recent weeks, but still a good performance from the 21-year-old, who does not appear to be in danger of losing his starting role. Is always immaculate in possession, even in tight situations.

  • Thomas Müller
    78
    39
    3.00

    Thomas Müller

Had a poor game on the whole as he seemed to lack composure in front of goal. Did manage to assist what should have been a goal for Gomez, though, and won a critical penalty, even though the referee's whistle in truth spared his blushes for a bad miss.

  • Mario Gomez
    79
    67
    3.00

    Mario Gomez

Not so good from the Germany international, who was unlucky to have a legitimate goal called offside, but struggled to have any effect for the majority of the match, and missed a couple clear opportunities. He's lost his clinical edge: it was visible as he allowed Muller and Ribery to have chances that when in form, he would have taken. To his credit, he did play in Muller ahead of the first penalty.

    Diego Contento

On as a time-wasting substitute at the death.

  • Arjen Robben

    3.50

    Arjen Robben

Replaced Alaba for the final half hour, and netted from two perfect penalties. He grew in confidence during the match, and went on one spectacular run: perhaps his goals on Saturday will be enough to spark him back into form.

  • Ivica Olic

    Ivica Olic

Came in for the final seconds.

  • Sebastian Mielitz

    Sebastian Mielitz

Badly misjudged one cross with the score at 1-0. Had little chance to stop any of the goals, and almost came up with a stop from Robben's first spot-kick.

  • Naldo
    4
    8
    3.50

    Naldo

Will be very disappointed by the final score, as he began the match very well, and had Gomez covered for a long portion of the match. In the end, Werder's defensive collapse was not his doing - his one big mistake was in failing to equalise when he had a free header on 48 minutes.

  • Sokratis Papastathopoulos
    3
    14
    2.50

    Sokratis Papastathopoulos

Given the run-around by Ribery for long spells, and in the end grew so desperate that he had to make a hopeless challenge in desperation, which left to Robben's second penalty goal.

  • Andreas Wolf
    8
    23
    2.50

Andreas Wolf Flop of the Match

A very disappointing performance from the ex-Nurnberg man, who had to resort to unfair play to make stops, and was duly punished. Booked for blocking off RIbery, and conceded a deserved, if soft, penalty as he tried to get away with an illegal obstruction of Muller.

  • Clemens Fritz
    2
    9
    2.50

    Clemens Fritz

Was often forced to help in covering Ribery, and utterly failed to do so as he gave the Frenchman space to shoot ahead of the opener. Werder needed a better partnership between he and Sokratis if they were to keep the score down.

  • Marko Marin
    13
    6
    2.50

    Marko Marin

Was clean in possession, but as a central playmaker, more creativity is required. Had one good strike from distance that forced Neuer to tip around his post, but that was all.

  • Aaron Hunt
    5
    17
    2.00

    Aaron Hunt

Never found his rhythm as he was out-classed in midfield, and took out his frustration on Kroos as he made a disgraceful challenge that earned a straight red card. Now one poor performance turns into four.

  • Aleksandar Ignjovski
    7
    8
    2.50

    Aleksandar Ignjovski

Minimised the threat of Muller, at least in his territory, but later had trouble with Robben as the Dutchman turned him inside out. The game was lost by that time, however.

  • Philipp Bargfrede
    6
    9
    3.00

    Philipp Bargfrede

Like Naldo, an anomaly amid a team of underperformers. The 22-year-old defended well, won his challenges - several of which were vital in avoiding goals - and put in a herculean effort as he tirelessly ran to plug gaps at the back.

  • Marko Arnautovic
    4
    12
    3.00

    Marko Arnautovic

Wandered all over the pitch in the first half, but had absolutely no impact on proceedings. Withdrawn, perhaps due to injury, or maybe simply for tactical reasons, at half-time and his replacement scored within minutes.

  • Claudio Pizarro
    9
    8
    3.00

    Claudio Pizarro

Kept under wraps for the most part, but a player of his class and tenacity is bound to have a chance in 90 minutes, and he took it: the Peruvian played a big role in Rosenberg's equaliser as he played a very clever ball. However, he was very fortunate to get away with an intentional elbow to Badstuber's chest.

Came in for the final moments and had no significant effect.

    Markus Rosenberg

Came on at half-time, and got his team back into the game as he fired home a very well-placed equaliser. Saw very little of the ball, but was ruthlessly efficient: it took just one shot for him to find the back of the net.

  • Sandro Wagner

    2.50

    Sandro Wagner

Came off the bench for the final quarter hour as he faced off against his former club, and nearly grabbed a goal: his low strike forced a brilliant save from Neuer five minutes before full time.
