As for Lyon. Well, they've only themselves to blame after a disjointed outing in the capital. They could've won it, if Gomis put away any of his countless missed chances. A disappointing night for him.
Chants of "PARIS" after the full-time whistle as Les Parisiens extend their lead at the top of Ligue 1. An efficient performance by the hosts, who kept a disappointing Lyon at bay for large periods. Pastore's neat goal, followed by Jallet's volley deep into stoppage time seal the ever so important three points.
AND THERE WE HAVE IT! FULL TIME! PSG 2-0 LYON!
Tumult inside the Parc des Princes after that goal by Christophe Jallet. It means they will top Ligue 1 tonight. Meanwhile, Hugo Lloris can only look on with disappointment etched on his face.
Well, hats off to Antoine Koumbouare for that inspirational substitution. He's only been on the field a few minutes, but Jallet gets himself a goal! The free-kick is taken well by Nene who searches out the defender. Jallet gets in behind Cissokho and the entire defence and volleys the ball past Lloris! Game. Set. Match.
GOOOOOAAAAAAALLLL!!!!! CHRISTOPHE JALLET MAKES IT 2-0! PSG SEAL THE GAME!!
Goal Christophe Jallet
Yellow Card Kim Källström
Well, he's already been warned. Now, he's in the book. Yellow card to Kim Kallstrom for a challenge on Pastore.
TIENE! Wide from the PSG defender who gets in on the act. On his left foot, he fires far left of Lloris' post. Could be just to waste a bit of time, that.
Nene again on the wing proves to be too much to handle and he launches a speculative ball to Pastore who is felled in the box by Lovren. It goes out for a corner, but the Croatian is not happy.
Substitution Kevin Gameiro Christophe Jallet
Final change for Antoine Koumbouare's side. And it's a defensive one. Kevin Gameiro is replaced by Christophe Jallet. Les Parisiens looking to seal this one now.
Yellow Card Jimmy Briand
Yellow Card Mohamed Lamine Sissoko
Mohamed Sissoko is the fourth player in the book after a rash challenge. Jimmy Briand is also cautioned.
Crowd on their feet as Jeremy Menez makes in-roads on the left wing, but he is ultimately foiled by Revelliere. Seven minutes left in this one.
Yellow Card Dejan Lovren
Dejan Lovren booked by referee Stephane Lannoy. The free-kick afforded to Les Parisiens is curled away by Nene who fails to pick out a team-mate.
Oh dear oh dear oh dear. Another high profile error from Bafetimbi Gomis. The corner is whipped in superbly and finds the striker six yards out, but Gomis heads....err,...away from goal? Head-scratcher that one.
Substitution Mathieu Bodmer Mohamed Lamine Sissoko
PSG make another substitution. Mathieu Bodmer makes way for Mohamed Sissoko.
Lyon pretty toothless in attack with Belfodil unable to find the end product needed to instigate a good opportunity.
Fifteen minutes or so left for Lyon to salvage something from this encounter. I can't see where they will get the goal from with PSG controlling proceedings.
GOMIS! Sitter. Absolute sitter. He might've scored a great chip against Dinamo Zagreb in midweek, but he missed a few gilt edged chances, and he's done so here! Bastos does well to evade his marker and conjures up a threatening cross to which Gomis gets his head to, but it goes slightly wide! Sirigu let off again!
FANTASTIC SAVE BY LLORIS! Again, Lyon are picked apart by a rampant home side and at one point, it's two against two with the ball from Pastore to Gameiro a good one. Gameiro is thwarted by a super save from Lloris who makes amends.
Bit of a mistake by Hugo Lloris there. Misjudgement by the France No.1 who was expecting a cut-back and left his near post clear. Fatal blow for him as Pastore took full advantage.
Assist Mathieu Bodmer
Goal Javier Pastore
It's a fantastic run by Javier Pastore who latches onto a simple pass. Taking on two defenders, he easily gets into space on the left wing. With Lyon concentrating on cutting off any option of a cut-back, the silky Argentine fires in on the near post and bamboozling Lloris!!! PSG ARE AHEAD!
GOAAAALLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!! JAVIER PASTORE NETS!! PSG 1-0 LYON!
MENEZ!! Another decent chance goes begging! Fantastic link-up between Pastore and Nene who feeds Menez on the right in space. The winger smashes the ball wide of Lloris' left post.
Substitution Alexandre Lacazette Ishak Belfodil
Ishak Belfodil replaces Lacazette. Can Belfodil step up to the plate?
PSG are on the front foot now, with Nene fighting his marker for posession of the ball. 61% they've enjoyed in this second period so far alone.
Les Parisiens are trying hard to break down a resolute Lyon defence who have about seven or eight behind the ball in two banks of four. A magical moment of technical ability could be what is needed to down the visitors.
Substitution Blaise Matuidi Clément Chantôme
It is in fact a substitution, Clement Chantome replaces the industrial Matuidi in the heart of midfield.
Antoine Koumbouare appears to be readying a change. Blaise Matuidi has taken a knock, with Clement Chantome taking instructions from the manager.
PSG settling into their constructive attacking rhythm. Great link up between the midfield and Pastore, but the killer ball is missing. Lyon meanwhile, are counting on the speed of their counter attacks.
GOMIS! The Sainte man launches a header wide again. The ball was decent enough, but the positioning could've been better as he falls back whilst making contact with the ball. Disapproving look from Garde on the touchline.
Equally edgy start to the second period by both teams. Here's a stat for you eagle-eyed fans out there. Posession: PSG 44% OL 56%.
PSG hunt down the ball within seconds with Lloris forced to send a wayward clearance into touch. Early jitters there from Lyon.
Second half is underway! PSG 0-0 Lyon.
Brian Alhwayek tweets in: "I honestly think that both teams will be a bit wary of each others attacking threats. Seems like its gonna be a quiet game" - It has more or less been in the first 45 minutes. All set to change. Thanks for your tweet, and keep them coming!
Feel free to continue sending your messages via Twitter to @mohammedali_93. Not long to go before the second half at an electric Parc des Princes.
Well, a lively half but with no goals. The hosts had chances, through Gameiro and Pastore, with the former striking the post in the best of the game's chances. For Lyon, wayward headers by Gomis and Lacazette proved to be their best efforts so far, with Bastos unable to trouble Sirigu before the break.
Halftime in Paris. It's PSG 0-0 Lyon.
At the other end, Bastos rids free of Lugano and fires an effort goalwards, only for Sirigu to pull out a comfortable save.
Matuidi is tackled well by Revelliere in the box, another corner to the hosts whose fans are urging them on in demanding fashion.
It's livened up now! Diego Lugano launches an audacious 30 yard effort which Hugo Lloris is forced to tip over superbly!
Where has the first half gone? Five minutes left of this first period at the Parc des Princes and it's an even 0-0. Nene gets into position on the wing, but his cross fails to pick out a team-mate.
Not a very good decision by Pastore. Fantastic burst down the right flank with the Argentine becoming the recipient of the ball. He moves into space well and has the option of Menez on the left who is unmarked. Pastore chooses to go for goal, hitting his shot of the defender and into Lloris' outstretched gloves.
Yellow Card Jérémy Menez
Yellow card brandished to PSG's Jeremy Menez. The former Roma winger upended Michel Bastos. Right call.
What do you make of this encounter? Not exactly a world-class spectacle, but plenty on show to suggest there'll be a few twists yet. Send me your comments and predictions via Twitter to @mohammedali_93.
GOMIS! Ohh close again from Lyon! Well worked corner and the dreadlocked striker gets into position but heads inches wide with Sirigu stretched. We're getting closer.
Both sides illustrating their competitive nature as we move past the half hour mark in this encounter. Couple of hard-working players out there going for every tackle.
Bit of drama here. Pastore is brought down just outside the box, but he is protesting furiously for a penalty as do the entire home faithful. Referee Lannoy gives a free-kick just outside the area which Menez spurns. It hits the wall and goes out for a corner, which is wasted.
Gameiro attempts to bamboozle Lovren with a set of step-overs, but the Croatian international isn't having any of it.
Javier Pastore fails to connect with a pass as it trickles past the line. The Argentine has not been difficult to mark for Gonalons thus far, with the Lyon man working well in midfield.
PSG beginning to utilise the attacking power they possess on the flanks with Nene stealing the ball from Lovren. The killer ball into the area doesn't materialise however.
The chances, they are a-flowing! Lacazette has a fantastic chance to nudge his side ahead as a beautiful ball from the left is headed just over the bar. Sirigu beaten. And amazingly, it IS still 0-0.
POST!!! PSG almost ahead at the Parc des Princes as Gameiro strikes the post. Huge let off for the visitors as it rebounds into Lloris' arms.
Gameiro breaks free of his marker and streaks onwards 1v1 but Hugo Lloris races out of the traps quickly to smother the ball. A nervous looking Remi Garde on the touchlines. His youthful side are definitely up against it.
Yellow Card Michel Fernandes Bastos
Michel Bastos finds himself booked for 'diving' in the box. A bit harsh on the Brazilian. Meanwhile, former Lyonnais Hatem Ben Arfa has been spotted in the stands.
Another heart-in-mouth moment for Les Gones to endure. Pastore makes progress coming in from the left flank and is pulled down before he pulls the trigger. Weirdly, Lannoy gives the freekick Lyon's way.
LACAZETTE!! Good effort by the youngster who is in the squad replacing Clement Grenier. His zipping strike goes out for a corner. From the set-piece, referee Stephane Lannoy reprimands Bafetimbi Gomis due to an infringement, and at the second attempt, the dead ball misses everyone as it goes wide.
Lyon make headway up front. Lacazette wins the ball and feeds Gomis who is unsure of his next move. The ball eventually finds itself ont the left wing as Bastos fails to control and it is a goalkick.
Edgy start here inside the Parc des Princes. Saka Tiene miscued his clearance as it went behind Salvatore Sirigu. Neverhteless make nothing of the resulting corner.
Lugano is penalised for a tug on Michel Bastos.
GAMEIRO!! Close from the former Lorient man who has a chance. PSG edging forward inch by inch here. Huge game for Kone and Lovren if they are to keep Les Parisiens at bay.
Gameiro attempts to get in from behind but ultimately fails. Crowd are absolutely fantastic.
Both managers giving impromptu interviews on French television whilst the match has started. Why can't we have that everywhere? Meanwhile, both sides settle the ball down well in the opening exchanges.
Referee Stephane Lannoy gets us underway. Hold on to your hats folks.
Pre match formalities almost over at the PdP. Let's get started! PSG in their famous home kit, Lyon in their traditional white.
Tonight's referee is Stephane Lannoy. An electric atmosphere at the Parc des Princes on the culmination of an unusually hot October's day in Paris, as it was here in London. The teams are in the tunnel, and kick-off is not far away.
There are the teams. One change for Remi Garde's men with Clement Grenier making way for Alexander Lacazette who played about 20 minutes in the midweek win over Dinamo Zagreb. PSG field their strongest possible side, with Mamadou Sakho and Milan Bisevac still sidelined. For the visitors, Lisandro Lopez and Yoann Gourcuff both failed fitness tests and miss out completely. What do you make of it, PSG & Lyon fans? Tweet me @mohammedali_93.
Confirmed team lineups are in: PSG: Sirigu, Ceara, Tiene, Camara, Lugano, Bodmer, Matuidi, Nene, Pastore, Menez, Gameiro. OLYMPIQUE LYON: Lloris, Kone, Lovren, Revelliere, Cissokho, Gonalons, Kallstrom, Bastos, Lacazette, Briand, Gomis.
With Pastore ultimately hogging the spotlights in Le Championnat, PSG would do well to keep more than an eye on Bafetimbi Gomis. The former Saint Etienne striker has six goals this season in Ligue 1 (joint highest scorer), and has come alive since the injury to Lisandro Lopez. The French international netted a superb chip in his side's 2-0 victory over Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League and also has three strikes in four games in this fixture.
Some stats to bring you ahead of this encounter: Eight Ligue 1 games have been played by both Paris Saint-Germain and Lyon, and the clubs both boast 17 points comprised of five wins, two draws and one loss. Antoine Koumbouare's men have won their last five home games in all competitions, with Argentine superstar Javier Pastore netting four goals since his big money move from Palermo.
The big spending capital club, bankrolled by Qataris have settled into gear recently, but face their first big check if they are to exceed their lofty expectations and win the Ligue 1 title come May. Can Remi Garde's rejuvenated Lyon side put a spanner in the works and claim the win which will send them to the summit?
