Had little to do all evening in truth. Cleared the crossed balls that came into his box, but was never forced into the kind of heroics that he’s become renowned for.
After falling into some rather mediocre form during Claude Puel’s reign, the left-back is showing signs of recapturing his best level. Managed to temper his attacking instincts on this occasion, which allowed him to be solid at the back.
Lyon’s right-back didn’t make the number of surging raids forward that can sometimes be expected of him, but he was steady defensively, doing much to nullify any threat that came down his channel.
Made one second half slip that allowed Amalfitano a clear shot at goal, but once again the young Croat had a steady game. Competed well in the air, but might have expected to endure a more rigorous examination.
Undoubtedly the outstanding player of the match, the Brazilian winger has rediscovered his best level and is running rampant in Ligue 1 at present. His cross to Gomis for the opening draw was of the highest level, and his finish to make the game 2-0 was also excellent.
Typically gritty performance in the heart of the midfield from the Swede, whose experience in this role is not vital for his club. Picked up an ankle knock in the early stages of the game stopping Lucho Gonzalez, but didn’t let this affect him.
Has stepped into the boots of Jeremy Toulalan with great confidence, and this was a particularly good showing from the young central midfielder. Offered a terrific assist to Michel Bastos, and played a number of other incisive passes.
Much faith has been placed in the young playmaker, with Miralem Pjanic offloaded to Roma to allow the youngster more playing time. Isn’t at the level of the Bosnian yet, but is making positive strides and was methodical in possession here, though he did overdo things when well placed in front of goal.
Operating down the right hand side, the former Rennes man was definitely a supporting act to Michel Bastos, who posed most of the problems. Offered a couple of decent efforts on goal from range.
The benefactor of a terrific cross from Michel Bastos to score the opening goal, the France striker is showing the kind of form that tempted Lyon to spend so much money on him two summers ago. Can still lack composure in front of goal, but that wasn’t on show at Stade Gerland as he held up the ball well and allowed others into the game.
Marseille’s goalkeeper could not be faulted with either of the shots he allowed to beat him as he was once more left badly exposed by a struggling defence. Handled the ball well when required.
Not really a centre-back by trade, and at times that was apparent in Lyon. In the team due to the suspension handed to Nicolas Nkoulou, he competed in a muscular fashion, but found Gomis too much to handle when the striker drifted in to his areas.
Endured something of a nightmare performance against Olympiakos on Wednesday night in the Champions League, the left-back wasn’t really targeted by Lyon in this match, though when OL got in behind him he struggled to get back.
Withdrawn at half-time after a mediocre first half display. Was asked to play in a left wing position again as Andre Ayew was not fully fit, but his evening was summed up by a tame shot that drifted over the top.
Is not the centre-back he was when Marseille picked up the French crown little over 12 months ago. Dived into challenges needlessly at times, though his physical attitude was useful in matching up against Gomis.
Busy as ever, but struggled to make inroads into the Marseille defence. Whenever one player was beaten, another appeared to shut the winger down. Delivered well from dead balls, but would have wanted to offer a more tangible contribution.
Something of a mixed showing from Marseille’s most expensive ever player. Struggled to find room with which to work his magic with the ball, but equally went close to scoring of a couple of occasions, the best of which was a second half shot that fizzed just wide.
Magnificent on Champions League duty in midweek, the midfielder was somewhat disappointing in the Rhone Valley. Too peripheral a figure to influence the game offensively, and not physical enough to become involved at the other end of the field.
Signed in the summer from Bordeaux, Diarra is struggling to make the desired impression with his new club. Gave away possession too readily in this encounter and did not dominate the centre of the midfield in the physical manner one would expect. Withdrawn at half-time.
Has started the season well, but struggled to get a sniff of goal. In the second half he did have one glorious headed opportunity from close range, but the ball hit Remy’s shoulders and dropped tamely to the ground, allowing Lyon to deal with the danger.
- 1 G. Bracigliano
- 26 J. Sabo
Threatened with one low, angled drive, but the summer signing didn't provide the imagination required.
- 12 C. Kaboré
Thrown on out of desperation with 10 minutes to go.
Came on at the interval, but couldn't influence the game as he would have wanted.
