But today's result is about Borussia Monchengladbach who, having finished 16th last season, have started the new Bundesliga campaign in remarkable fashion. A wonderful defensive effort from Lucien Favre's men who defied even the greatest of their fans' expectations at the Allianz Arena.

So Bayern Munich end the first weekend of the new season three points behind Jurgen Klopp's Borussia Dortmund. It's a disaster for Manuel Neuer who was largely at fault for De Camargo's winner and also for Jupp Heynckes, who won't have been expecting such an insipid effort from his players.

90′ +3
The visitors are desperately holding on and THEY'VE DONE IT!!!!!!! GLADBACH PICK UP THE WIN!

90′ +2
Substitution Marco Reus Lukas Rupp

90′ +1
Lucien Favre looks to waste a few more seconds as Reus is replaced by new signing Lukas Rupp, who arrived from Karlsruhe this summer.

90′
Substitution Tony Jantschke Thorben Marx

90′
The red tide of the Bavarians is hitting the visitor's box but Gladbach are defending valiantly. Can they hold on and pull off the shock of the weekend as we enter stoppage time?

88′
Franck Ribery has injected a little bit of life into Bayern since coming on but the Frenchman wastes a cross with Petersen waiting frustratedly in the area.

86′
The visitors break and Marco nearly gets away from his marker but fatigue sets in and the attack breaks down. Meanwhile, Germany U21 star Tony Jantschke has gone down with an injury to boos from the home fans.

83′
Substitution Mike Hanke Patrick Herrmann

83′
Bayern have a corner and it's played short to Rafinha but the right-back has wasted his ball. It's looking a little desperate for Jupp Heynckes' charges...

80′
The visitors are looking to catch Bayern on the break and Reus is leading the charge. It's a risky game for the Foals to play but they're hanging on in there as we enter the final 10 minutes at the Allianz Arena

78′
Samuel Anarfi (@sanarfi) has tweeted saying: "Neuer will definitely recover. Tis early days yet." Feel free to get in touch via twitter with your thoughts on the game. Can Bayern equalise? Should Heynckes make another change? Let me know @jonbirchall

77′
DISALLOWED GOAL FOR BAYERN!!!!!!! That's a very controversial decision. Mario Gomez latches on to a rebound from a wonderful Ter Stegen save and knocks the ball home but the linesman flags for offside. Either way it was incredibly tight. Bayern are really turning up the pressure now.

76′
Substitution Jerome Boateng Nils Petersen

75′
New man Nils Petersen has stripped off his tracksuit and looks likely to come on for the home side imminently. Could he become an instant hero at the Allianz Arena by pegging Gladbach back?

73′
Yellow Card Igor De Camargo

72′
Bayern have less than 20 minutes to salvage something from this game as goalscorer De Camargo is booked for timewasting after he kicked the ball away after the referee had blown his whistle.

70′
Juan Arango isn't happy with a one goal lead and looks to inject a little creativity into the Borussia attack with a neat dribble. He wastes the shot but it's certainly a sign of confidence.

68′
You have to feel for Manuel Neuer who will have been desperate to impress his new, so-called supporters on the opening day of the Bundesliga season but that really was a terrible piece of goalkeeping to allow the Foals the lead. Do you think he can bounce back? Let me know with a tweet @jonbirchall

66′
Among all that excitement, Franck Ribery came on for Toni Kroos as Jupp Heyckes looked to chase the victory. With less than 25 minutes to go, he may be willing to settle for a point.

64′
Robben nearly gives the hosts a perfect response with a rasping effort but Ter Steger is equal to it. Great performance from the youngster so far today.

62′
Assist Roel Brouwers

62′
Goal Igor De Camargo

62′
GOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLL! And it's Gladbach who have taken the lead! Manuel Neuer has had a shocker there as the 'keeper inexplicably comes out to meet a high bouncing ball and the shot-stopper is caught in no-mans land as De Camargo simply nods the ball beyond the former Schalke man who berates Boateng. However, if anyone was at fault there, it was certainly the goalkeeper.

60′
Substitution Toni Kroos Franck Ribéry

58′
DISALLOWED GOAL FOR GLADBACH!!! The visitors think they have taken the lead after a 35-yard free-kick sneaks through but the referee has blew his whistle after Neuer was impeded and it won't count. Bit of a let off for the hosts.

57′
The game has dipped into a little bit of a lull as neither side is able to get the ball down and play.

55′
Jerome Boateng is receiving treatment behind the Borussia goal as Daniel Van Buyten warms up on the sidelines but the €13 million man should be OK to continue.

54′
OFF THE POST!!! Bayern are desperately close to taking the lead after Gomez slams a magnificent header against Ter Steger's left-hand post. The young 'keeper was beaten all ends up there.

53′
Toni Kroos has possibly been the hosts' most dynamic player so far but he's wasted another chance from outside the area, toe-poking it over to he collective relief of the Gladbach defence.

51′
Neustatder slips a beautiful ball through to the advancing Daems down the left-had side but Arjen Robben, who has struggled so far, gets back superbly to suppress the Foals' attack.

49′
This time it's Ter Steger who pulls out a world-class save to get down low at his near post to keep out Gomez's header. Great chance for the Bavarian outfit.

48′
Much of the same in the opening stages of the second period with the visitors sitting deep, Bayern trying to probe and Labbadia looking bored.

45′
Monchengladbach kick off the second half with neither coach opting to make any changes during the break. Surely Ribery won't be kept on the bench for much longer if it stays like this...

I think it's fair to say that Jurgen Klopp won't be quaking in his boots after seeing that first-half performance from his supposed title rivals. Gladbach haven't had much of a look-in but they haven't been overly troubled by the 2009-10 Bundesliga champions. Will Heynckes make any substitutions in the break? Stick around and we'll keep updated with any changes here on Goal.com

45′ +1
Gomez looks to meet a ball with a late header but he's not quite able to get there and the half-time whistle goes. Bayern have been the better side but Gladbach are only 45 minutes away from what would be a brilliant point to kick off their season.

44′
One minute of stoppage time at the end of the first-half at the Allianz Arena.

43′
That is an absolutely phenomenal save from Manuel Neuer. Having had next to nothing to do in the first-half, the 25-year-old reacts superbly to stop Arango's swirling shot from the right. If the former Schalke man wants to win over the dissenting Bayern fans then he's just done himself plenty of favours with that stop. Superb.

41′
Robben, Muller and Kroos are all looking to interchange to try and bamboozle the Foals defence but they aren't having much luck yet.

39′
De Camargo has taken a knock to his back but the Belgian is on his feet and is trying to walk off the injury on the sidelines. Nevertheless, Favre sends his substitutes out to warm-up.

38′
Kroos has another effort from outside the area but this time with his left foot and it flies wide. Meanwhile, Stuttgart boss Bruno Labbadia looks a little bored in the Allianz Arena stands. Not long until half time, Bruno...

35′
Gomez goes down in the box alongside Tony Jantschke with both players attempting to head a falling ball but he's never getting a penalty for that regardless of how much he protests. Gladbach really need to get into the Bayern half and Lucien Favre knows it...he's going potty on the sidelines.

33′
We'll give Robben the benefit of the doubt for that one. The former Chelsea man hammers a bouncing ball into the Munich air and after snatching at a half-volley. Terrible effort.

31′
Still goalless at the Allianz as the half hour mark passes. Bayern the stronger as of yet but Monchengladbach are more than holding their own.

30′
First glimpse of Marco Reus in full flight as he runs past Lahm as if he isn't there from the right-hand channel. He runs into a bit of a cul-de-sac but the home side are going to have to stay alert when the 22-year-old collects the ball in areas such as that.

28′
That is excellent defending by Tony Jantschke as he gets down to block Muller as pressure builds in the Gladbach box. Bayern taken control once again. Do you think the visitors can hold on? Let me know @jonbirchall

26′
Good effort from Toni Kroos from 25 yards out after a quick break from Lahm but Ter Steger get's down well to stop the rasping hit.

24′
...and it's headed away easily. The home side are far less dominant now and it's turning into a cracking match. Both sides looking to counter and the 25th minute mark approaches.

22′
Reus wins a corner off Boateng. First chance for Gladbach and it'll be taken by Arango...

21′
Thomas Muller brings down a ball from Luiz Gustavo phenomenally on the left-wing with the outside of his boot but loses the ball seconds later. He'd done the hard bit!

19′
Sloppy play from Neustadter nearly gifts Bayern an opportunity just ouside the area but the former Mainz man recovers well.

17′
Gomez receives a ball from over the top but is unable to bring it down and the visitors escape unscathed.

15′
The Foals are certainly looking to frustrate their illustrious hosts at the moment, as they soak up more and more pressure from Heynckes' men. Quarter of an hour gone and it's completely one-sided in regards to possession at the moment.

14′
Bayern are still camped in the Gladbach half, with Kroos looking to dictate the pace of the game having moved into a more central area. It's looking a little ominous for the visitors so far.

12′
Joachim Low and Oliver Bierhoff are watching intently from the Allianz stands, no doubt looking for some to impress ahead of Germany's clash with Brazil in the week.

9′
The Bavarians are enjoying a lot of the ball down the left at the moment as Gladbach desperately look to hang on and put together some passes to maintain some sort of possession.

8′
First chance goes to Bayern as Jerome Boateng dinks a lovely ball onto the head of Mario Gomez but the hitman nods it into the arms of the grateful Ter Stegen. Jupp Heynckes will have been impressed with his side so far. Lucien Favre is already scratching his head in the dugout.

6′
Muller breaks down the left after Reus surrenders possession in the middle of the park but the Bayern man slips and loses his momentum. The hosts looking comfortable on the ball in the opening exchanges.

3′
Venezuela star Juan Arango wastes a Gladbach free-kick from 30-yards out as both sides look to settle early on. Don't forget to tweet me your thoughts on the clash (@jonbirchall).

2′
Robben tries to slip Mario Gomez in with a ball in-behind Daems but it's easily picked up by Ter Stegen and the attack breaks down. Great atmosphere at the Allianz!

1′
Bayern kick us off and and Toni Kroos, who is playing on the left, is brought down after 34 seconds.

The pre-match niceties are almost over and we're seconds from kick-off. Here we go!

So Heynckes doesn't risk starting Ribery, who has been training with a cast on his ankle for much of the week but Neuer and Robben, who were both doubts over the last few days, are given the nod.

Borussia Monchengladbach: Ter Stegen; Jantschke, Brouwers, Dante, Daems; Reus, Nordtveit, Neustadter, Arango; Hanke, De Camargo. Subs: Herrmann, Leckie, Rupp, Bobadilla, Wendt, Heimeroth, Marx

Bayern Munich: Neuer; Rafinha, Boateng, Badstuber, Lahm; Luiz Gustavo, Schweinsteiger; Robben, Kroos, Muller; Gomez. Subs: Butt, Van Buyten, Ribery, Petersen, Tymoshchuk, Alaba, Usami

Ridiculous as it seems to be discussing the title race with the hosts yet to kick a ball in this campaign, Jupp Heynckes will already be aware of how tough the battle to be Bundesliga champions looks set to be this season, having seen a Mario Gotze-inspired Borussia Dortmund destroy Hamburg on Friday. The Foals will also be looking to improve on last year’s performance, though they couldn’t have been given a more difficult start than a trip to the Allianz Arena.
