Live Commentary

  • Full-time at the Liberty and Swansea have won 1-0! Man City threw everything at them in the final minutes but they just couldn't find an opening. City had a corner in the last seconds that Joe Hart went up for and when Swansea cleared, Scott Sinclair raced clear before trying to shoot into an empty net though it was just short. Lee Mason then blew-up to send the home fans into raptures and Man United top of the league.
  • 90' + 3'
Free-kick to Man City. Last chance.
  • 90' + 1'
Four minutes of time added on at the Liberty Stadium for Swansea to hold on.
  • 90'
Man City have had a goal disallowed! Micah Richards, and me, had thought he had a headed in a dramatic equaliser though assistant referee Sian Massey has flagged the right-back offside.
  • 88'
    SubstitutionWayne Routledge Garry Monk
  • 87'
    SubstitutionDavid Silva Edin Dzeko
  • 86'
Both sides make changes. Dzeko comes on for City while Routledge is off for Swansea. Could there be another goal in this one!?
  • 85'
    SubstitutionNigel De Jong Adam Johnson
  • 84'
It was going to take a mistake from someone to help open the scoring today and it was a mistake by Gael Clichy that allowed Swansea to go on the attack. Joe Allen picked up the loose pass before driving forward but although Man City appeared to have got enough men back Wayne Routledge delivered a cross from the right-wing where the late substitute Luke Moore was unmarked to power a header a home.
  • 83'
    Assist Wayne Routledge
  • 83'
    Goal L. Moore
  • 83'
Goal to Swansea as Luke Moore heads his side into the lead!
  • 81'
Adam Johnson is being readied for Man City. The winger has frustrated Mancini at times this season though there is no doubting he has the ability to create a goal from nothing.
  • 79'
    SubstitutionDanny Graham L. Moore
  • 78'
The tempo has really dropped here as Swansea drop everyone behind the ball. This is a real test to see of Man City can break them down but they appear to lack any ideas.
  • 76'
    Yellow Card Mario Balotelli
  • 75'
Time is running out now for Man City and Matt Scott updates us with: 'City are still looking toothless as the game enters the home stretch. With United cruising to a win, a victory for Robrto Mancini is crucial but you wouldn't back them on this performance, the often maligned Dzeko is still on the bench, could he be key?'
  • 73'
Good cross from Scott Sinclair is almost flicked on by Danny Graham who threw himself at hoping to guide it into the far post but he couldn't find the necessary contact to trouble Joe Hart.
  • 70'
Twenty minutes to go and this game has not brought the goals we would have all hoped. Looks like it may need just one goal to settle this one today.
  • 68'
Pass after pass from Man City as they tried to find a whole in the Swansea defence but it was an interception that fell to Micah Richards that found the gap. The right-back controlled before hitting a fine effort but Vorm parried before collecting at the second attempt.
  • 66'
Balotelli tries to weave his way through a crowded Swansea area though Steven Caulker shows great maturity to get his body between the striker and the ball and shadow it to safety.
  • 64'
Routledge cuts inside before trying to pick out a run by Danny Graham though his pass is over-hit, going out for a goal kick.
  • 62'
Man City are playing Swansea at their own game at the moment as they keep possession for lengthy periods.
  • 59'
Penalty appeal for Man City turned down as Balotelli takes a tumble. Lee Mason waves it away with Joe Allen's contact clearly accidental.
  • 56'
The ascendency has changed here as Man City are starting to dominate. Yaya Toure played a great ball to Clichy who had found space in the Swansea area though thankfully for them, it was Clichy in space, as he controlled before firing a lame effort wide.
  • 53'
Man City starting to find a few gaps now as the extra man upfront appears to have given them a foot-hold. Silva dropped into a whole just off the Swansea defence before trying to slide in Ageuro but Williams made a sliding intervention.
  • 51''s Matt Scott gives us this update: 'LIVE! Five minutes into the second period at the Liberty and City are already looking much better. They've actually managed to put together some meaningful possession and Sergio Aguero, who scored twice on his debut against the Swans, has fired an effort wide.'
  • 49'
Ageuro flashes an effort wide after a good pass from Balotelli. The shot wasn't far away but Vorm always saw it going wide.
  • 48'
Man City are often criticized for relying too much on the pace and power of Yaya Toure to drive them forward and the Ivorian has been off today which could explain the poor showing from Mancini's men thus far.
  • 47'
Swansea straight on the attack with Scott Sinclair making good progress down the left-hand side before his cross his cleared by Clichy.
  • 46'
The sides are out for the second-half. Swansea get up underway once more. Lets hope for goals!
  • Matt Scott gives us his take on the opening 45 minutes at the Liberty Stadium. 'The first 45 minutes have come to a sleepy close at the Liberty Stadium, the home side have played some lovely stuff but they can't open up City's defence. Roberto Mancini clearly knows his way around a hairdryer as his glorious mane suggests but he may be using the Fergie model to rip into his boys in the dressing room, they have been second best by a distance.'
  • The first-half finishes with another corner to Man City. The visitors have slowly improved though Swansea will certainly be the side disappointed to go into the break level following Scott Sinclair's penalty miss. Update from one of our reporters coming up!
  • 45'
One minute of added on time for the first-half.
  • 44'
The following corner brings mayhem in the Swansea defence. The home side clear the initial corner though Gael Clichy fires an effort from 25 yards before Silva has an effort that had Vorm scrambling to his far post though it went just wide.
  • 42'
Better from Man City as the extra man upfront appears to have made a different. David Silva tries to feed through Balotelli though Ashley Williams shields in out for a corner.
  • 40'
Incredibly ambitious effort from Balotelli is charged down though the Italian has gone down injured clutching the back of his ankle.
  • 37'
    SubstitutionGareth Barry Sergio Agüero
  • 37'
Man City have been poor and Mancini is clearly not happy. Sergio Ageuro has been brought on for Gareth Barry, who doesn't appear to have an injury.
  • 34'
A rare venture forward from Gael Clichy results in a looping cross into the Swansea area but nobody was there in a blue shirt allowing Steven Caulker to let the ball bounce before calmly passing the ball out.
  • 31'
Man City are struggling to assert themselves at the moment as good pressing from the Swansea players forces them to pass all the way back to Joe Hart.
  • 28'
Good chance for Swansea as Danny Graham hits a shot on the turn just wide. A cross intended for Graham was poorly cleared by Kolo Toure straight into the path of Joe Allen who found Graham before trying to catch Joe Hart out with a clever effort though his effort was marginally wide.
  • 25'
Another one of our match reporters, Simon Sinclair gives us his view of the game so far: 'Swansea are dominating this game so far as the Premier League leaders are struggling to get out of their own half. Lots of possession for Brendan Rodgers side but they're yet to make it count, how much will they come to rue Scott Sinclair's early penalty miss.'
  • 23'
Counter attack by Man City brings them their first real chance of the game though it is wasted by Balotelli. David Silva played a smart ball over the top for the Italian who had breached the offside trap though his half-volley was sliced high and wide.
  • 20'
Swansea have the ball around the Man City area, patiently trying to find an opening in the defence but Mancini has all his men behind the ball.
  • 18'
    Yellow Card Nigel De Jong
  • 17'
A good spell for Man City as they almost take advantage of some poor defending. David Silva fizzed a cross into the box that was hooked back into danger by Ashley Williams before Neil Taylor's clearance went up rather than out. Mario Balotelli shielded the ball before attempting to poke the ball goalwards.
  • 15'
Still all Swansea at the moment. Man City are struggling to get a foot hold with the superb passing on show by Brendan Rodgers' men.
  • 12'
Out match reporter Matt Scott has this update on the thrilling opening at the Liberty: 'Swansea have made an excellent start in the Welsh sunshine but it's England's no. 1 who is shining the brightest. Wayne Routledge is slipped through by Joe Allen and the former Crystal Palace man rounds Hart before going down under his challenge. The usually efficient Scott Sinclair steps up but his spot kick is weak and Hart palms it away with ease. City are yet to have a sniff at Michel Vorm's goal.'
  • 9'
Huge let-off for Man City who have started the game slow. The home crowd are loud and pushing their side to keep up the high tempo.
  • 7'
    Missed Penalty Scott Sinclair
  • 7'
    Penalty save Joe Hart
Wayne Routledge came racing through and was felled by an on-rushing Joe Hart. Scott Sinclair took responsibility from the spot but the England keeper made amends with a stop, low to his right.
  • 6'
    Penalty to Swansea!
  • 5'
Swansea are having all the play here early on. Scott Sinclair wriggled past a couple before attempting a one-two with Danny Graham. The return ball forced him out-wide but the cross found Wayne Routledge at the back post whose volley went flying over.
  • 3'
Swansea have the ball and have made their intentions for the afternoon clear as they keep possession, passing through the team looking for an opening.
  • 1'
We are underway here at the Liberty stadium with Man City kicking us off.
  • Man City have problems in defence as usual centre-back pairing of Vincent Kompany and Joleon Lescott picked up knocks last time out against Sporting Lisbon, meaning Kolo Toure and Stefan Savic come in. Meanwhile, Swansea have made just one change from the win against Wigan with Nathan Dyer suspended, Wayne Routledge starts on the right-hand side of midfield.
  • Good afternoon and welcome to’s live commentary of title chasing Manchester City’s trip to Swansea. This is the first time the visitors have faced Swansea on their home patch in the league since 1984 when they were both playing in the old division two. On that occasion Man City ran out 2-0 winners, a score line they would be delighted to replicate this afternoon.
