Anthony Pilkington and a stunning Elliott Bennett strike secure an unexpected three points for the Canaries at Spurs, whose Champions League chase took a shock hit

    Brad Friedel

Showed good awareness to prevent a backpass by kicking a close-range ball back out to Assou-Ekotto. Was left exposed for the opening goal. Tipped over well from an inswinging Pilkington free-kick and saved well from close range off an Elliot Ward volley but had no chance with Bennett's excellent strike.

  • Younes Kaboul

    Younes Kaboul

Lost his tackle on the edge of the box in the build-up to the goal and couldn't recover in time to stop the goal. Won plenty in the air but looked under-par on the ground. Had to go off with what looked a knee injury sustained as he challenged for a corner in the Norwich box.

  • Ledley King

    Ledley King

Did enough to prevent Holt getting a telling touch in the first half as Pilkington swung his cross over early but could do little about the goal. Was exposed and couldn't get across once Pilkington found space in the box. Struggled with Holt all day and was extremely fortunate not to see a penalty given for hauling the striker down in the box.

  • Kyle Walker

    Kyle Walker

Got a block in on Aaron Wilbraham's effort but it fell to an unmarked Pilkington for the opener. The right-back did OK in the first period but was taunted by away fans chanting that he was nothing compared to Kyle Naughton, his Spurs colleague on loan with the Canaries. Was booked for a challenge on Pilkington early in the second half and troubled throughout the day by Pilkington's movement off the left wing.

  • Benoit Assou-Ekotto

    Benoit Assou-Ekotto

Started the game with his usual swivel and hundred turns in his own half before finding a good line ball to Defoe. This was a pattern of his first-half play. In the second period he linked well with Adebayor and found himself in on goal but Ruddy denied his lifted effort with a fine save. Was as close as he could have been for the goal but Bennett's strike just evaded him. Put in a very good cross for Bale late on and generally coped well with everything thrown at him on the left.

  • Gareth Bale

    Gareth Bale

Started left but struggled intitially to find a yard to create chances. Found Martin a tough customer and only had one or two opportunities to get behind him and cross in the first period. Started to switch to the right in the second half and was almost rewarded for his better work as he cut inside and curled one off the underside of the bar. Got his head on an Assou-Ekotto cross but saw his effort just drift wide.

  • Aaron Lennon

    Aaron Lennon

Began the game playing very high on the right. His first involvement saw him smash a cross way beyond anyone in the box. Grew into the game but Drury defended well on his flank. Switched with Bale but had no joy on the left before reverting to the right.

  • Luka Modric

    Luka Modric

Started well, spreading play to the wings when possible. Had a decent effort as he tiptoed into the box. Helped set up the equaliser, winning the ball in midfield. Showed his usual ability in tight spaces escaping three men and passing to Bale before he hit the bar.

  • Jake Livermore
    18
    19
    3.00

    Jake Livermore

This was the first game that he had to show more responsibility in the middle of midfield and looked to struggle with an attacking role. Majority of his forward passes were misplaced until he threaded Defoe in on goal for the equaliser. Came off for Van der Vaart with 20 minutes to go.

  • Louis Saha

Louis Saha Flop of the Match

Had the first chance of the game, firing low inside the box at Ruddy, but looked out of sorts up front. Wasn't working anywhere near as hard as Defoe in the first period and was taken off at half-time.

  • Jermain Defoe
    21
    19
    3.00

    Jermain Defoe

Initially linked well with Saha down the left flank. Was a good out-ball for Assou-Ekotto and delivered a great finish for his goal as he broke the offside trap and dinked over Ruddy. Other than that, the service was dire to the little man as far too many chipped balls were played to him. Did what he could but barely had a sniff of another chance.

    Ryan Nelsen

Came on for Kaboul just before half-time. Did reasonably well but lost a few aerial battles with Wilbraham.

  • Rafael van der Vaart

    Rafael van der Vaart

Came on for Livermore with 20 minutes to go but did not create or find a chance for himself.

  • Emmanuel Adebayor

    Emmanuel Adebayor

Entered the game for Saha at half-time. Linked up well with Assou-Ekotto to lay the full-back in on goal. Aside from that, did little to suggest he would score for the trailing hosts.

  • John Ruddy
    31
    2
    3.50

    John Ruddy

Tipped a very dangerous-looking Walker cross beyond his back post and made a couple of routine early saves from Modric and Saha. Made a wonderful second-half save, tipping over Assou-Ekotto's close-range effort to the surprise of many.

  • Russell Martin

    Russell Martin

No great dramas in the first half as he did his utmost to keep Bale quiet. Struggled to get close to Assou-Ekotto when the full-back pressed forward but overall did well.

  • Adam Drury
    16
    3
    3.00

    Adam Drury

Composed in possession and did a reliable job on Lennon down his flank - so much so that the wingers swapped in the second half. The new challenge did see Bale step inside and hit the bar but Drury did well regardless.

  • Elliot Ward
    19
    3
    3.00

    Elliot Ward

Was unlucky not to score from a volley off Bennett's cross but Friedel parried. Did well at the heart of the defence but was always struggling to keep pace with Defoe for the equaliser. Even better in the second half as Norwich held strong against their hosts.

  • Ryan Bennett
    23
    2
    3.50

    Ryan Bennett

Partnered Ward well and did a good job in silencing Saha in the first half. The new threat of Adebayor didn't faze him and did admirably against the bigger striker.

  • Bradley Johnson
    17
    4

    Bradley Johnson

Probably should have been booked for a late lunge on Modric but otherwise complemented Howson well in midfield. Had a wonderful opportunity to put Norwich back in front but volleyed over from close range. Booked seconds later for tugging Lennon back.

  • Anthony Pilkington

Anthony Pilkington Top of the Match

Returned to the midfield and opened the scoring. Half-won the tackle with Kaboul on the edge of the box before drifting into the box unmarked and stroking his shot past Friedel. Nearly grabbed a second with an inswinging free kick that was tipped over.

  • Elliott Bennett

    Elliott Bennett

Broke well from a long Ruddy clearance and was able to show his pace on the break numerous times. Crossed well for Ward to volley at goal. Was booked for his complaints about a free kick awarded against his side, but he scored a superb goal on the 65th minute, striking a strong shot across Friedel into the far corner.

  • Jonny Howson

    Jonny Howson

Norwich's very own Andres Iniesta had a composed first half in the middle of midfield. Did well alongside Johnson and surpressed the Spurs midfield in the opening period.

  • Grant Holt
    28
    2
    3.50

    Grant Holt

Gave King a tough ride early in the first half and was brutally unlucky not to win a penalty after being tugged to the floor. Was a handful all afternoon and justified all the recent calls for an England call-up. Linked well with Bennett and sent a teasing cross over to Johnson who volleyed over from close range. Was replaced late on by Morison.

  • Aaron Wilbraham
    21
    2
    3.00

    Aaron Wilbraham

Made his first start of the season and helped to create the opener. Walker's tackle on him ensured the ball found Pilkington in the box. Linked up well with Holt all day and won plenty in the air. Had to go off with a nasty wound to his left temple after a clash of heads with Van der Vaart.

Substitutions

Replaced Grant Holt with 20 minutes to go. Climbed above King to head a long cross at goal but saw it just fly wide.

Entered play for the injured Wilbraham late on.
