Norwich City - Manchester City Preview: Both Premier League sides have collected six points in last eight league matches

The Canaries head into the match after an eye-catching and deserved win at fourth-placed Tottenham, while Roberto Mancini's side hope to maintain their title challenge

The Canaries remain without long-term absentee James Vaughan (knee) and defender Daniel Ayala (hamstring). Declan Rudd (ankle) required surgery while Marc Tierney (groin) aggravated his injury and remains out for Norwich City.

Manchester City have a relatively clean bill of health. Mario Balotelli will serve the second of his three-match suspension, while Yaya Toure (knee) is the only injury concern for the Blues after hobbling off against Arsenal last weekend.

  • Since Manchester City’s 6-1 thumping of Manchester United on October 23, Roberto’s Mancini’s men have only won three times away from home in the Premier League.

  • The only Englishman to score more goals than Norwich City captain Grant Holt this season is Wayne Rooney, who has 22 strikes to Holt's 13, and the Manchester United striker will be absent for the first two games of Euro 2012 through suspension.
  • Both sides head into this tie on the back of mood-lifting triumphs. Roberto Mancini's side beat West Bromwich Albion 4-0 after failing to win in their three prior matches, while the Canaries beat Tottenham at White Hart Lane after picking up just five points in their previous seven league games.
  • The reverse fixture was a 5-1 win in City’s favour back in December. Having scored five or more goals on three previous occasions this campaign, the north west side have not scored as many in a single match since.
  • Norwich sat in 10th position after their defeat to the the title contenders - over four months on and they are 10th heading into the clash. City, on the other hand, were five points clear at the top of the table but now Manchester United sit five points clear of them.
  • Despite their starkly different league positions, both sides have taken eight points from their last six matches in the division.
  • Five of the Blues last 40 goals in the top flight have come away from home.

The Norwich goalkeeper pulled off an astonishing save to deny Benoit Assou-Ekotto from allowing Spurs to take the lead at White Hart Lane on Monday, which paved the way for a remarkable result in north London. Back on home turf at Carrow Road, the keeper - an outsider for England's third goalkeeper spot at Euro 2012 - will have to be in just as impervious form to keep Sergio Aguero, David Silva and all the other attacking riches Manchester City have at bay.

J. Lescott

The England international has been in fine form in the 180 minutes he has played since his return from injury in Manchester City’s 1-0 loss at Arsenal. His partnership with Vincent Kompany this campaign has been impressive and the clean sheet maintained on Wednesday at home to West Brom will have boosted morale in the back four. Grant Holt has been a threat to almost every defence in the league this season and it will take a defender of Joleon Lescott’s experience to stop him scoring again on Saturday.

Editor's Prediction

I believe the Canaries will cause a whole host of problems for the visitors at Carrow Road on Saturday. Manchester City fans have renewed hope of a title challenge following Manchester United’s loss at Wigan Athletic, but Norwich City have proven they are no lightweights all season and specifically in their win at Tottenham on Monday. However, Roberto Mancini’s men should have enough quality to sneak a win against Paul Lambert’s side over the course of 90 minutes.
