Player Ratings: Swansea City 3-2 Arsenal

A fantastic game in which the hosts' midfield pairing of Allen and Britton ran the match, with a good performance from Dyer helping the Welsh into the top half of the table

By Joe Doyle

    Michel Vorm

Perhaps could have done better with the opening goal as he was beaten at his near post. Stood up well to block Van Persie later in the half. Could do nothing about the second with Walcott through on goal to dink over him.

  • Ashley Williams
    52

    Ashley Williams

Defended well for long stages of the game, but stepped up and out of position to allow Walcott a clear path for Arsenal's second.

  • Neil Taylor

    Neil Taylor

Did well against Walcott, matching him on more than one occasion, but the speedy winger beat him for pace for Arsenal's equaliser.

  • Steven Caulker

    14
    3.50

    Steven Caulker

Got back extremely well to clear Ramsey's shot off the line. Miscommunication allowed Walcott in as his team-mates stepped up to play offside without him.

  • Ángel Rangel
    56
    13
    3.50

    Ángel Rangel

Did well against Arshavin, keeping him out of the game for long stretches. Made some good interceptions and went on a run late-on that would have led to a goal but for the timely interception of Djourou.

  • Leon Britton
    62
    10
    3.50

    Leon Britton

Controlled the midfield for large portions of the first half with Joe Allen. Did the quiet work of keeping the ball and shielding the defence.

  • Nathan Dyer

    Nathan Dyer

A great turn in the box drew an ill-timed tackle for the penalty, and looked lively throughout the opening stages. Found himself in plenty of space and finished with aplomb to put the hosts in the lead.

  • Joe Allen

Joe Allen Top of the Match

Some good deliveries from free kicks in the opening half and good passing as well. Came close with a shot that he could perhaps have controlled better. Brilliantly robbed Ramsey to set up Dyer for the second.

  • Kemy Agustien

    Kemy Agustien

Showed some impressive quick feet in the first half to evade tackles but didn't really get too involved in the game. Subbed at half time.

  • Danny Graham
    82
    11
    3.50

    Danny Graham

Strayed offside on too many occasions, but eventually got his reward for his style as he got past Koscielny to slot the ball into Szczesny's far corner with a great finish.

  • Scott Sinclair
    97
    13

    Scott Sinclair

Kept cool to slot away his fourth penalty and sixth goal overall of the season. Was a good outlet later on in the game as his team looked to defend and break on the counter.

Substitutions

  • Wayne Routledge

    16

    Wayne Routledge

Came on to replace Dyer in the last 10 minutes but didn't get too much of the ball with Arsenal on the attack.

  • Gylfi Sigurdsson

    Gylfi Sigurdsson

Came on and immediately looked at home on his debut. Put in some nice corners and had a shot that dragged wide, but looked good after his introduction before setting up Graham's goal.

  • Leroy Lita

    Leroy Lita

A late cameo to waste some precious seconds.

  • Wojciech Szczesny
    78

    3.00

    Wojciech Szczesny

Guessed right but couldn't get a hand to Sinclair's penalty. Couldn't have done much about the second goal either, but seemed to get his angles wrong on the third as he allowed Graham to slot home from a narrow angle.

  • Per Mertesacker
    87
    114
    3.00

    Per Mertesacker

Solid in defence, and was only really outdone for the second goal when Swansea had more numbers on the attack. Snatched at a shot from close range and pulled it wide before his substitution.

  • Laurent Koscielny
    101
    95
    3.00

    Laurent Koscielny

Played some decent stuff and made blocks in dangerous areas but played Graham onside for the third goal and didn't catch up with him either; not a great moment for the defender.

  • Johan Djourou
    116
    106
    3.50

    Johan Djourou

Continues to fill in well out of position at right-back, and played a stunning pass for Walcott to latch onto and convert for Arsenal's second.

  • Miquel

    Miquel

Never looked comfortable in defence against Nathan Dyer, and wasn't aided by Arshavin's lack of tracking. But when he attacked he looked impressive, sending in a brilliant cross that no-one gambled to get on the end of early in the second half.

  • Aaron Ramsey
    141
    344
    2.50

Aaron Ramsey Flop of the Match

Clumsy tackle from the Welshman back in his home country to give away the penalty. Almost made up for it straight after with an effort cleared off the line. He wasn't helped by a sloppy pass to him, but didn't show any urgency and was robbed by Allen for the Swans' second goal, during which he picked up a knock. Had a thumping header saved by Vorm, but it wasn't a great performance from the midfielder.

  • Alex Song
    95
    115
    2.50

    Alex Song

Not a strong game for the defensive midfielder, allowed Britton and Allen to run the midfield and didn't really get in many tackles before he was switched to centre-back late in the game.

  • Andrey Arshavin
    76
    185
    2.50

    Andrey Arshavin

A sublime pass for the opening goal, perfectly weighted for Van Persie to slot home. But he faded quickly and didn't really offer much else. Also gave Ramsey possession in a bad area for the second goal and was soon substituted.

  • Yossi Benayoun
    59
    151
    3.00

    Yossi Benayoun

Had a fairly solid game but didn't offer much in the way of direct threat and was substituted with half an hour to go.

  • Robin van Persie
    224
    50
    3.00

    Robin van Persie

What can you say about the striker, he just keeps scoring. It looked as if he had lost his chance before beating Vorm at the near post. Didn't have much input for the rest of the game though in a fairly quiet encounter for the Dutchman.

  • Theo Walcott
    106
    139
    3.00

    Theo Walcott

As ever, the final product from Walcott was called into question as he failed to find his team-mates on occasion. But he made up for it with some nice play in the second half before he sped away to score Arsenal's equaliser.

Substitutions

  • Tomas Rosicky
    175
    47

    Tomas Rosicky

Came on and immediately looked to add more than Benayoun, having a shot on the run from 25 yards before attempting an acrobatic volley.

  • Thierry Henry

    Thierry Henry

Came on but didn't get much of the ball as Arsenal looked for a winner.

  • Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

    3.00

    Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

Added some more direct play and a lot more speed. Looked very threatening for the Gunners, but wasn't on the pitch for long enough.
