Premier League Preview: Manchester City v Wolves

Premier League Preview: Manchester City v Wolves

Roberto Mancini's men are in excellent form and have yet to drop a point since losing away to Bayern Munich, whereas their visitors are without a league win since August

Richards, Kompany, Lescott, Clichy
Milner, Yaya Toure, Barry
Aguero, Balotelli, Silva
Stearman, Johnson, Berra, Ward
Guedioura, Henry, O'Hara, Jarvis
Ebanks-Blake, Doyle
Roberto Mancini is set to shuffle his sizeable pack of superstars once again for the visit of Wolves, and could very well replace the entire starting XI that won 5-2 at Molineux during Wednesday's League Cup clash.

With Owen Hargreaves - who is still struggling with a calf injury - the only doubt for the league leaders, there are plenty of options for the Italian to choose from. Star names such as Sergio Aguero and David Silva should return.

Unlike their illustrious hosts, Wolves do have selection problems up front, with striker Steven Fletcher likely to miss out on the clash with a calf injury while defender Kevin Foley is aiming for a return in December after undergoing ankle surgery.

Mick McCarthy may opt to bring in Adlene Guedioura as the Algeria international impressed after he replaced Adam Hammill off the bench in the 2-2 draw with Swansea at Molineux last Saturday.

  • Manchester City have already scored more goals this season (33) than they managed in the entire 2005-06 campaign under Stuart Pearce.
  • In Aguero, Edin Dzeko and Mario Balotelli, City possess three of the league's top seven goalscorers.
  • The Citizens' league goal tally is equal to that of Liverpool, Stoke, Wolves and Wigan combined.
  • As if being five points clear at the top of the Premier League wasn't enough, Mancini's men are also joint top of the disciplinary league alongside Swansea, with 11 yellow cards and no reds.
  • Both Silva and Nasri have six assists to their name so far this term, and are the only two players in the league to reach that total.
  • Wolves have never beaten City at the Etihad Stadium, with the last victory in the blue half of Manchester coming at Maine Road in 1999.
  • The Midlands outfit have lost all four games against teams in the top half of the table.

The midfielder's performance against Manchester United was nothing short of breathtaking but the Etihad Stadium faithful will tell you have that the Spaniard has been as untouchable all season. Wolves must restrict the former Valencia man if they are to take anything from the game on Saturday, but it's easier said than done.

K. Doyle

Even the harshest of critics would struggle to dampen the mood in the blue half of Manchester at the moment after such a phenomenal start to the Premier League season but questions remain over the durability of Joleon Lescott. If anybody on the Wolves team can test the physical credentials of the ex-Everton defender, it's the Irish striker, who won't give any of the City defenders a minute's rest. He, more than anyone else, could deliver an upset.

Editor's Prediction

Wolves' confidence will have no doubt been bolstered by their quite fantastic fightback at home to Swansea last week but after being hammered by their hosts in the League Cup on Wednesday, it's going to be an even greater challenge picking up a point at the Etihad Stadium. Evidence and form suggest that this should be another comfortable week for Mancini's men.
