Live Commentary

  • Wayne Veysey comments on the match live from Loftus Road: Joyous scenes here at Loftus Road, where QPR have annexed their west London rivals in the most dramatic and, let's be honest, ill-tempered way imaginable. The controversial penalty and two red cards for Chelsea barely begin to tell the tale of this match, in which Petr Cech was just about the only visiting player not to get booked. Not that Warnock's team were meek and mild. They mostly gave as good as they got but their spirit and feistiness wound Chelsea up a treat. A perfect match for Warnock, you might surmise.
  • Chelsea really impressed in the second half, even though they had a massive handicap. It could be easily argued that they deserved something from the game. Although three decisions from the ref handed QPR their first home win of the season.
  • All over at Loftus Road. 1-0 Warnock will be happy with the three points but wont be impressed by the fact they could not capatilize on the two man advantage after Chelsea lost Drogba and Bosingwa.
  • 90'
    Yellow Card John Terry
John Terry chases down a sloppy back pass from QPR and does catch the keeper, as he collected the loose ball. Kenny springs up resenting the challenge, confronting the defender but in reality Terry had every right to go in for that ball.
  • 87'
QPR pass the ball around the Chelsea box but cannot find a way through the depleted ranks of the defence. It results in Wright-Phillips trying a shot from way out, but it just keeps on rising never threatening the goal.
  • 84'
Beautiful play by Luiz, he makes a stunning run through the whole of QPR's midfield, playing through Anelka who fails to get a shot away. The Frenchman takes it wide and puts the ball in the box. Man of the monent Luiz is there to meet it with a speculative overhead kick, Lampard gets a toe on the attempt which doesn't show much promise and it loops over the bar.
  • 82'
    SubstitutionShaun Derry Jamie Mackie
  • 80'
Ivanovic curls in a cross with the outside of his boot on the right hand side of the box. Anelka meets it with his head on the 6 yard box, but directs it straight at Kenny who collects gratefully. That was a perfect chance for Chelsea.
  • 77'
Barton wins a freekick 10 yards outside the box. He swings in a cross which finds Helgusson alone at the back post, but his volley from 10 yards out sails into the crowd.
  • 76'
    Yellow Card Ashley Cole
  • 74'
Young does brilliantly to hold off Malouda as he makes a run to the byline and gets a cross into the box. The delivery is dealt with by Luiz who puts it out for a throw-in.
  • 73'
    SubstitutionRaúl Meireles Florent Malouda
  • 72'
    Yellow Card Raúl Meireles
  • 72'
After the appeal QPR hit Chelsea on the counter, and Joey Barton fires one low to Cech's right, but it is just wide of the post and goes out for a goal kick.
  • 71'
Luiz bought down in the box this time as Ivanovic pumps in a long throw-in into the box. Helgusson has hold of the defender, but his theatrical dive was maybe to much and another appeal is turned down.
  • 70'
    Yellow Card David Luiz
  • 69'
Lampard appeals for a penalty as Cole finds space on the left who looks to play in the midfielder but Lampard seems to be bought down off the ball. There wasn't as much contact as QPR's penalty, but there was enough for the referee to give it. Unluckily the ref didn't blow his whistle.
  • 66'
Young put though again on the right hand side, as he gets released behind Cole but Cech intercepts his low drilled cross.
  • 64'
Chelsea are really pushing in order to get the all important goal. Luiz is playing as deep as Anelka at the moment. There seems to be no sign that Chelsea are the side with 9 men.
  • 62'
As Taarabt is substituted he storms down the tunnel sulking, Warnock just gives him a look as he sulks towards the dressing room.
  • 61'
    SubstitutionAdel Taarabt Tommy Smith
  • 60'
Our man, Wayne Veysey, adds a comment from Loftus Road: 'There's only one Joey Barton' sing the QPR fans as the King of Twitter becomes the latest man to find his way into referee Foy's notebook. I think the term 'bad-tempered' will be applied to every report of this fixture.
  • 59'
    Yellow Card Joey Barton
  • 58'
    Yellow Card Branislav Ivanovic
Ivanovic the latest Chelsea player to pick up a card. He clatters into Taarabt as he looks to mount an attack on the Chelsea defence.
  • 54'
A beautiful pass from taarabt on the right wing through to Luke Young gives him a clear sight of the goal, but his finishing lets him down and it bobbles wide of Cech's goal.
  • 53'
The game is coming to the boil now as Derry and Lampard square up after a robust challenge from the QPR man.
  • 52'
    Yellow Card Shaun Derry
  • 52'
    Yellow Card Frank Lampard
  • 50'
    Yellow Card John Obi Mikel
Mikel looses a yard on Taarabt and brings him down just outside the box, and gets a yellow card for his challenge. The free kick amounts to nothing as its drilled into the wall.
  • 48'
Chelsea are having all the possession in the opening stages despite their handicap. best chance comes from Lampard as he gets played in by Anelka but a last ditch effort from Ferdinand stops the shot.
  • 47'
Chelsea have an early chance as Merieles puts a ball into the box towards a dertemined Lampard. The cross is good, but Lampard fails to get enough contact on the ball to challenge Kenny.
  • Warnock will be looking to finish this match off as soon as possible, 1-0 and two men up QPR should be able to see Chelsea off and record their first home win this season.
  • Wayne Veysey, gives us an update on the atmosphere at Loftus Road: You don't have to go to Manchester for drama. The QPR players are given a standing ovation by the home fans at the end of a compelling opening period, in which Chelsea were unfortunate to concede a penalty, won and converted by Helguson, but can have few complaints about the sendings off for Drogba and Bosingwa. With Mata and Sturridge sacrificed by Villas-Boas, none of the front three that started for Chelsea today completed the first half. Astonishing.
  • The first half has come to an end, Chelsea have been on the wrong end on three pivotal moments of the match. Not many people other than Chelsea fans would be arguing any of the though.
  • QPR get the game under way. Lets see what this second half has in hold for us.
  • 45' + 1'
    SubstitutionJuan Mata Nicolas Anelka
  • 45'
Our man live at the match, Wayne Veysey, updates us: 'Cheerio, cheerio' sing the QPR supporters as they wave goodbye to Drogba following his deserved sending-off for a poor two-footed challenge on Taarabt by the centre circle. Drogba claimed he got the ball and Chelsea are angry that referee Crhis Foy was so quick to show a red card for the second time in the half but the challenge was unarguably illegitimate.
  • 45'
Chelsea without an out and out striker now, Juan Mata is playing the highest up the pitch. The 2 man advantage is really showing as QPR keep hold of possession.
  • 43'
Taarabt limps off after the tackle but I imagine he will be fine after a little sideline treatment.
  • 42'
Another Red Card!!! Drogba this time, he flies in on Taarabt double footed. It was very similar to the challenge to the one which saw Torres sent off. Chelsea down to 9 men.
  • 41'
    Red Card Didier Drogba
  • 39'
Merieles is in acres of space in the centre of the pitch, around 25 yards out, but the strike is dragged well wide.
  • 35'
    SubstitutionDaniel Sturridge Branislav Ivanovic
Sturridge is sacrificed by Villas-Boas to try and re-structure his 10 man side.
  • 35'
Taarabt steps up to take the resultent free kick, he curls it towards the top right hand corner of Cech's goal but it is collected easily by the keeper.
  • 33'
    Red Card José Bosingwa
The right back is chasing back with Wright-Phillips who has been put through by Tarrabt. Bosingwa gets hold of the wingers shirt and pulls him down 2 yards from the edge of the box.
  • 33'
Wayne Veysey live from Loftus Road: Bosingwa sent off.
  • 28'
Mata puts a lovely ball through to Lampard who get behind the QPR defence, as the ball drops to him he fails to get the ball under his control and Kenny watches it roll out.
  • 27'
Meireles looks to start an attack but looses his footing 10 yards into the opposition half, as he goes down he claws the ball back preventing a QPR counter attack. Should have probably been a yellow card for the midfielder, but he gets away with it.
  • 25'
Another update from Wayne Veysey, live from Loftus Road: The QPR fans are having a lot of fun here. After Drogba's woeful long-range shot just went for a throw-in, they rose en masse to their feet to give the Ivorian a standing ovation. The atmosphere is absolutely terrific, partly a consequence of the 19,000 fans being crammed into four small stands so close to the pitch.
  • 21'
David Luiz finds himself in possession on the edge of the box and goes down at the first sign of contact rather theatrically, but he fails to fool the referee and the game goes on.
  • 17'
Mata takes a corner for Chelsea, but his lofted cross to the back post is cancelled out as Mikel is apprehended for being to physical in the box.
  • 15'
That's a surprise start to the game, it will be interesting to see how both sides react to this will the home side rest on the lead? It would be a dangerous tactic as Chelsea have goals in them.
  • 10'
    Penalty Goal Heidar Helgusson
  • 10'
Our man, live at Loftus Road, Wayne Veysey updates us: The QPR fans are making even more of a racket now after watching their team go 1-0 up against west London rivals Chelsea. The local locals are chanting 'west London is ours' after watching Helguson controversially win and then convert a penalty that Cech got a hand to but could not divert from the net
  • 9'
Penalty! QPR win a penalty in the first 10 minutes. A long ball is lofted into the box and Luiz fails to meet the ball on the first bounce. Helgusson shields the ball and Luiz puts to much pressure on the striker and he goes down, easy decision for the ref.
  • 7'
QPR are looking to play in Taarabt down the left wing, but after he takes a touch Mikel comes across to stop the run just inside the Chelsea half.
  • 5'
Both teams are failing to keep hold of possession in the early stages of the match, but they both seem lively in the middle of the park.
  • 2'
An early interchange between Sturridge and Drogba leads to the Ivory Coast striker finding space and shooting, but his shot doesn't find the target.
  • 1'
Chelsea get things under way at Loftus Road.
  • A comment from's reporter Wayne Veysey live at Loftus Road: Welcome from Loftus Road, where this is a brilliant atmosphere inside this tight-packed little ground. Whatever happens today, a bit of history will be made as this is the first Premier League derby here for 15 years. But then, it will take something truly extraordinary to create more than a ripple given what happened in Manchester earlier this afternoon.
  • QPR are still looking for for their first Premier League home win, and Chelsea will be doing all they can to prevent that in their first match against the London based side in over 15 years.
  • Chelsea will be hoping to continue their free scoring run today as they visit Loftus Road today, with Daniel Sturridge still deputising for the suspended Fernando Torres. Although some supporters would like to see Villas-Boas hand the young Englishman more regular starts in the attacking berth.
