Live Commentary

  • And the referee blows for full-time! Chelsea beat Everton at Stamford Bridge for the first time in six seasons and, thus, go within three points of table-topping Man City and one point behind second-placed Man Utd.
  • 90' + 4'
Into the last minute as Drenthe pops up on the left wing and lofts over a cross in search for Osman but Cech plucks it out of the air with ease. The Chelsea goalkeeper has barely been tested tonight.
  • 90' + 1'
Right then, we are into the final few minutes now as the fourth official signals that there will be four minutes of added time. Lampard goes close with a low drive from the edge of the area but it's straight at Howard.
  • 89'
As we approach injury time, two old guards of the game in Phil Neville and Frank Lampard get in a harmless tussle with each other as they seemingly try to tackle each other to the ground. It would be ridiculous if it didn't look so funny.
  • 87'
Jagielka has had a great game, despite the scoreline, as yet again he shows his strength to outmuscle Anelka and clear.
  • 86'
Chelsea are searching for a fourth goal as Lampard releases Sturridge down the right, cuts inside and tries to find the return pass that Everton cut out. He, perhaps, should have gone for the shot there.
  • 84'
With six minutes remaining, Drogba has his first shot on target. I tell you what, he's no Vellios.
  • 82'
Vellios had been on the pitch for less than a minute before scoring. That's his second goal for Everton after a deadline-day move.
  • 81'
    Assist Royston Drenthe
  • 81'
    Goal Apostolos Vellios
GOAL!! Everton pull one back! Well, that wasn't to be expected. Drenthe, who hasn't done much since coming on, does extremely well down the right and delivers a low, driven cross for substitute Apostolos Vellios to tuck in under Cech. No clean sheet for Chelsea.
  • 81'
    SubstitutionLouis Saha Apostolos Vellios
  • 78'
To quote one of my colleagues, "[this is] among the least emphatic 3-0s I've seen". He's right. Chelsea have barely gotten out of first gear and they lead 3-0.
  • 77'
    SubstitutionJuan Mata Nicolas Anelka
  • 76'
    SubstitutionJohn Obi Mikel Oriol Romeu
  • 76'
Mata and Mikel are withdrawn with youngster Romeu and Anelka coming on in their place.
  • 74'
A slight let-off for Everton there as Sturridge, in a dangerous position, loses his footing while stretching to reach a Malouda pass. He would have been in there.
  • 72'
    SubstitutionTim Cahill Phil Neville
  • 72'
It appears Moyes has accepted the defeat as he brings on Phil Neville for Cahill.
  • 70'
    Yellow Card Daniel Sturridge
  • 69'
Sturridge and Drenthe get in a tangle outside the Everton area and the referee calls up the play. Sturridge thinks he has won a freekick but ends up being booked for an apparent dive.
  • 67'
Midway through the second half now. Sturridge shows some great skill by twisting and turning away from Distin not once but twice to deliver a deep cross into the area. Unfortunately for the striker, Howard collects.
  • 66'
    SubstitutionRamires Florent Malouda
  • 64'
A sorry sight for Chelsea fans now as Ramires, who all but put this game to bed, is limping off. Malouda replaces him.
  • 62'
    Assist Juan Mata
  • 62'
    Goal Ramires
GOAL!! 3-0 Chelsea! The home side power through the middle through Mikel, and the Nigerian finds Mata, who finally finds some end product to slip in Ramires with a cross-cum-shot for an easy finish into an empty net.
  • 61'
    SubstitutionSeamus Coleman Royston Drenthe
  • 61'
David Moyes makes an attacking change as loanee Royston Drenthe comes on in place of Coleman.
  • 59'
Frustration definitely growing for Everton here as Fellaini, who has already been booked, gives away a needless freekick in the centre of the pitch. He flings his arms around in exasperated fashion at the sound of the referee's whistle.
  • 57'
Everton have had just 32% possession so far this half. To be honest, even that seems a lot.
  • 55'
Bosingwa has a great chance to play in Drogba after making a fine run down the right but he completely messes up the pass and Howard collects easily. Such a waste. Drogba was in acres of space.
  • 53'
After the brief, bright opening from Everton with Osman's effort it has been all Chelsea. The visitors have barely had a touch.
  • 51'
Mata is desperately trying to make things happen for Chelsea as he links up well time and time again with Lampard but the end product isn't there for him at the moment.
  • 49'
Chelsea have their foot on the ball and after very nice one-touch passes between Lampard, Terry and Drogba, the latter tries to find Mata down the right but his cross is overhit and Jagielka can clear.
  • 47'
And Everton produce their best chance of the game so far as Osman finds space on the edge of the area to turn and pop off a shot that hits the outside of the post! A warning sign for the hosts there.
  • 46'
And Everton get us back underway where Chelsea lead 2-0.
  • The teams are back out for the second half. Couple of minutes away from the restart.
  • Looking at the replays of that second goal once more, it is definitely Terry's goal. Howard makes a right mess of it as it bounces off his outstretched hands and into the goal.
  • 45' + 3'
And the referee immediately blows for half-time. Looking at replays of the goal, it could well be a Fellaini own-goal. Terry's initial header hits Howard and the rebound comes off either the Chelsea or Everton man.
  • 45' + 2'
    Assist Frank Lampard
  • 45' + 2'
    Goal John Terry
GOAL!! We are over the allocated added time as Lampard's deep hanging freekick from wide right is headed in my John Terry. Is this game over at the stroke of half-time?
  • 45'
We enter the sole minute of added time as Cahill delivers a fine challenge on Sturridge.
  • 42'
    Yellow Card Leighton Baines
  • 42'
As with the first goal, Lampard starts the move with some great movement and decision making but this time Bosingwa cannot follow suit and overhits his pass towards Drogba.
  • 40'
Very little space in the centre of the park as Osman and Fellaini struggle to overpower Mikel and Ramires. Osman is penalised for a foul on Sturridge.
  • 39'
Everton try to make some progress down the left through the adventurous Baines but he is flagged offside.
  • 37'
    Yellow Card Ashley Cole
  • 37'
Mikel and Ramires are enjoying themselves in the centre of midfield as the former sprays a great pass in the direction of Drogba but once again Jagielka is a match to the striker as he clears.
  • 34'
Chelsea threatened again but this time confident goalkeeping from Howard, as he runs to the edge of his area, clears the danger.
  • 32'
Gutting for Everton. They have started very well and looked comfortable before that suckerpunch.
  • 31'
    Assist Ashley Cole
  • 31'
    Goal Daniel Sturridge
GOAL! Sturridge gives the hosts the lead. Out of nothing Lampard spots Cole's run down the left and the defender simply volleys a delicious pass across the face of goal for Sturridge to finish with ease.
  • 28'
...Lampard takes the corner but it's straight into Howard's gloves.
  • 27'
Chelsea win their first corner as Fellaini clears Drogba's attempted pass to Ramires...
  • 26'
Ramires, who has seen a lot of the ball so far, decides to leave a warning mark on Saha as things start to heat up at Stamford Bridge.
  • 24'
Again here come Chelsea but, with options either side, Ramires fancies a pop himself and his effort curls way wide.
  • 23'
It's Drgoba vs Jagielka again as Mata sends a brilliant ball upfield towards the striker but an untimely slip allows Jagielka to collect possession and clear his lines. Chelsea's attacking intent is building.
  • 22'
...Baines takes it, looking for Cahill, but Chelsea, through Terry and then Lampard, calmly clear.
  • 21'
Fellaini now charges from the left flank but is muscled out by Terry, who concedes a corner...
  • 19'
...and nearly some end product from Chelsea as Drogba smartly turns Jagielka just outside the area but the defender recovers brilliantly to power the Ivorian off the ball.
  • 18'
Chelsea working hard to break down Everton here but Mata is starting to see more of the ball and he is always a threat.
  • 16'
    Yellow Card Marouane Fellaini
  • 16'
Fellaini is cautioned for a high foot against Ramires, that leaves the Brazilian screaming in pain until the yellow card is flashed.
  • 13'
Another half-chance for Cahill as he heads harmlessly wide from a fairly good position. The attacking midfielder is currently on his longest run without scoring having not found the back of the net in this calendar year.
  • 10'
Saha, who has a decent scoring record against Chelsea, tries his luck from an acute angle but Cech is more than a match to it.
  • 9'
Baines whips the corner in and it heads straight for Cech who decides to punch it high and clear under pressure from Fellaini. It does the job.
  • 8'
Again Ashley Cole nearly gets caught out as Coleman storms down the Everton right but the left-back managed to get a foot in and happily concedes the corner.
  • 6'
A decent start from Everton here, and it could have been even better if Cahill lifted his head up and spotted Coleman in acres of space but the Australian opts to head at goal instead. Easy for Cech.
  • 4'
The first sign of Chelsea's attacking intent as Lampard, Ramires and Cole combine well in midfield before youngster Coleman nips in to break down the move. Great defending.
  • 3'
...and the visitors work the ball upfield and Osman nearly capitalises on slight hesitation from Cole but the England left-back quickly regains his composure and clears the danger.
  • 2'
The game starts at a rampant pace with Everton enjoying some comfortable possession at the moment.
  • 1'
And Chelsea get us underway against Everton!
  • Mere moments away from kick-off now as the two teams emerge from the tunnel.
  • A few stats to through at you as we approach kick-off: Chelsea have managed to beat Everton only once in the last nine games between today's sides but they have won 9 and drawn one of their last 10 games in all competitions.
  • So, Branislav Ivanovic replaced David Luiz in central defence after the Brazilian's delayed return from international duty. Jon Obi Mikel is handed a rare start, while Fernando Torres is still banned. Everton are unchanged from the side who lost 2-0 to rivals Liverpool last time out after Jack Rodwell's red card from that game was rescinded.
  • Everton: Howard; Hibbert, Jagielka, Distin, Baines; Coleman, Fellaini, Rodwell, Osman; Cahill; Saha. Subs: Mucha, Heitinga, Bilyaletdinov, Drenthe, Stracqualursi, Neville, Vellios.
  • Chelsea: Cech; Bosingwa, Ivanovic, Terry, Cole; Mikel, Lampard, Ramires; Sturridge, Drogba, Mata. Subs: Turnbull, Romeu, Malouda, Meireles, Lukaku, Alex, Anelka.
  • Everton, meanwhile, lie 13th, but can squeeze into the top half with three points of their own come full-time. Here come the line-ups...
  • Already today we've seen Man City charge two points clear at the top of the table after a thumping 4-1 victory over the previously unbeaten Aston Villa, following Man United's 1-1 draw at Liverpool. Chelsea can close the gap between them and Roberto Mancini's men with a victory over Everton today.
