    Wojciech Szczesny

Arsenal's August player of the month had a few communicative mix-ups with his defenders but was otherwise commanding and denied Graham with a fine reflex save at 0-0.

  • Per Mertesacker

    Per Mertesacker

There was great anticipation from the home fans whenever Arsenal had a set piece and the ball went near the giant German but his presence was more effective in defence, where he settled in quite comfortably, although he looked occasionally startled by the pace of the match.

  • Bacary Sagna

    Bacary Sagna

Showed what Arsenal missed at Old Trafford with defensive solidity, including a brilliant late challenge on Sinclair, and some fine raids in the final third.

  • Laurent Koscielny

    Laurent Koscielny

There was more than a touch of desperation to much of his defending and it was no surprise when he was booked in the 53rd minute for hacking down Sinclair just outside the box.

  • Kieran Gibbs

    3.00

    Kieran Gibbs

On his long-awaited return, got caught out positionally on a few occasions but his speed got him out of trouble. Impressive bombing forward and put one superb cross straight on to Chamakh's head.

  • Aaron Ramsey

    120
    3.50

    Aaron Ramsey

Wasted a brilliant early chance to put Arsenal ahead but followed up his excellent international performance in midweek with another polished display in the playmaker role. Showed signs he can forge a good understanding with Arteta.

  • Emmanuel Frimpong

    Emmanuel Frimpong

Some of his first touches were so bad they doubled up as passes but made up for his questionable technique with some excellent tackles and interceptions both in midfield and his own penalty area.

Mikel Arteta Top of the Match

He may be Cesc-lite but the experienced Spaniard provided the midfield fluidity that Arsenal have been lacking this season. Delivered two defence splitting passes in the opening 10 minutes and created - number of chances for his new team-mates with his perceptive range of passing. Van Persie also showed deference by allowing him to take all the set pieces.

  • Andrey Arshavin

    Andrey Arshavin

Demonstrated the commitment and quality that was so lacking in the Old Trafford mauling. Nearly set up Walcott for the opener before scoring it himself by showing great composure to capitalise on Vorm's blunder and steer the ball into the empty net from a tight angle with his left foot. Subbed with 28 minutes left but, for once, received an excellent reception.

  • Theo Walcott
    230

    3.50

    Theo Walcott

Bright and lively and showed no ill effects from the injury that kept him out of England's match against Wales. Nearly gave his team an early lead with a well directed toe poke only to be brilliantly denied by Caulker's brave goal-line clearance.

  • Robin van Persie

    Robin van Persie

On the periphery of the game in the first half but came to the fore after the break. Close to working the second goal with a fine run that culminated in a right-foot shot deflecting off the post. Subbed with 10 minutes left.

    Yossi Benayoun

Replaced Arshavin for the final third of the match and made a reasonable impression on his debut with some nice touches on the left flank.

    Francis Coquelin

Brought on in place of the tiring Frimpong to help maintain Arsenal's midfield supremacy.

  • Marouane Chamakh

    Marouane Chamakh

Could - and should - have put Arsenal 2-0 up but headed Gibbs' brilliant late cross too close to Vorm.

  • Michel Vorm
    49
    41
    2.50

    Michel Vorm

He realised his error as soon as he had made it but his mistake for Arshavin's opening goal will provide ammunition for compilers of bloopers DVDs. Rolled the ball against the heel of Rangel and fell perfectly into the path of the Russian. That howler apart, he maintained the good impression he has made since joining the Swans at the start of the season.

  • Ángel Rangel

    22

    Ángel Rangel

No blame could be attributed to the right-back for his unfortunate role in Arshavin's goal, even though his heel inadvertently provided the assist. Otherwise solid.

  • Steven Caulker
    21
    23
    3.50

    Steven Caulker

Made a magnificent goal-line clearance to prevent Walcott putting Arsenal 1-0 up and showed great commitment to minimise the threat posed by Arsenal's nimble attackers.

  • Ashley Williams

    Ashley Williams

The heartbeat of the Swansea team threw himself vigorously into the challenge of quelling Arsenal, with some excellent interceptions and last-ditch blocks.

  • Neil Taylor

Impressive display by the Wales international. Dealt capably with Arshavin and Walcott and delivered some excellent crosses when he got forward to support Swansea's attacks.

  • Kemy Agustien

    3.00

    Kemy Agustien

Energetic display in central midfield to ensure his team kept it's head above water but pulled up in the second half with a hamstring injury and was substituted.

  • Leon Britton

    Leon Britton

The former Arsenal trainee is diminutive in stature but big of heart and rose to the challenge of subduing the hosts' midfield.

  • Joe Allen

    Joe Allen

Provided the creation in the Swansea midfield with some neat passing before fading after the break.

  • Nathan Dyer

    Nathan Dyer

Swansea's biggest attacking threat. Displayed some excellent footwork on a number of occasions on the right flank to ensure that Gibbs could never feel too comfortable.

  • Scott Sinclair
    36
    19
    3.00

    Scott Sinclair

Slammed a second-half free-kick against the crossbar after winning it with a fine, jinking run. Far more influential after the break and caused Arsenal problems with his speed and trickery.

  • Danny Graham

Danny Graham Flop of the Match

A frustrating afternoon for Swansea's lone frontman. Nearly put the visitors ahead in the first half from close range but was otherwise rarely involved until he missed a great chance late on which would have grabbed a point.
