Overhauling The Deficit

Malaga were the underdogs against Sevilla in their Round of 16 tie in the Copa del Rey and their defeat to fellow Andalucian side last month wasn't a surprise. The 5-3 loss now puts Manuel Pellegrini's team in the back-seat but hope springs eternal.

Malaga have been involved in a 5-3 scoreline this season before and at the time they were on the winning side as they won against Zaragoza in the Spanish Primera Division in September. Having commenced the new year with a 2-1 defeat of Sporting in Gijon at the weekend, Los Boquerones will welcome Sevilla at La Rosaleda with the confidence of registering a victory.

Malaga have other issues on their mind such as improving their situation in La Liga as they are struggling against relegation and have also make some massive signings in the winter but winning tonight will give them the boost they need for the remainder of the campaign.

Resurrecting Themselves

Sevilla have had a wretched first-half of the 2010-11 campaign, slipping down the ladder in the Spanish Primera Division and also falling out of the Champions League before the start of the group stage. January, though, has commenced on a positive note for the Andalucians as they garnered a 1-0 victory over Osasuna in La Liga on Sunday.

The holding Copa del Rey winners will be keen to win again on Wednesday evening and having defeated Malaga 5-3 in the first-leg, they should head into the away encounter basking in confidence. Even a narrow defeat would suit them as los Nervionenses would still go through to the quarter-finals.

However, coach Gregorio Manzano would attempt to win and construct a platform for Sevilla to build their remainder of the season. The match against Malaga is a local derby and with a stern test against Basque giants Real Sociedad in San Sebastian coming up at the weekend, the 54-year-old would push his team to embark on a winning momentum.

Prediction
A win for Malaga is not exactly out of the picture but Sevilla would know better than to lose by a large margin. A draw is in the offing.
