• Stadio Olimpico, Roma
Referee: L. Banti
• Attendance: 33000
F. Totti 30'
M. Vučinić 70'
M. Borriello 86'
D. Mannini 27'
The referee ends the game. Francesco Totti, as he has done so often in his career, carries Roma to victory. The former Italy forward had a great game, but so did the Sampdoria defence, particularly Martinez, who was a thorn in Roma's side so often in the first half in particular. Both teams will need to rebuild, if Roma want their Champions' League status back, and if Sampdoria want a swift return to the top flight of Italian football.
We're going to have two minutes injury time. Sampdoria have a corner, which is taken quickly, but Palombo's shot across the face of goal goes wide.
Totti's replacement, Florenzi looked to be in, but chooses to play a back heel, rather than go for goal. Sampdoria scramble it away.
Assist Francesco Totti
Goal Marco Borriello
Totti strikes the free kick from 35 yards. Da Costa makes a great save, but Borriello is there to put the ball in the back of the net. Totti has been fantastic all game, and is now withdrawn to get the applause of the Roma faithful.
Martinez, who has been fantastic all match long, picks up a booking for a clumsy tackle.
Yellow Card G. Martinez
Tissone thwarts Totti again, heading away his ball that sought to find Borriello at the far post.
Totti wins a corner for Roma after Tissone's tackle on the captain goes for a corner. Easily headed away.
Greco takes an optimistic shot from distance. Should have passed it to Totti. Easily blocked by Martinez.
Guberti, on loan at Sampdoria from Roma, plays in a great ball, which Burdisso half clears. Samp have a a throw in, Guberti crosses again, but it drifts harmlessly behind Lobont's goal.
The game seems to be winding down as we move into the last 15 minutes. Roma pass it around the edge of the Samp box, and Taddei's "pass" might as well be a back pass. Straight to Da Costa. No Roma player anywhere need it.
Caprari's ball towards Taddei at the far post is over hit, and Sampdoria have a goal kick.
Vucinic is replaced by Caprari. Could this be his last ever appearance for Roma?
Almost game over. Totti plays a great ball over the top to find Borriello, but the Italy forward's shot is tame, and easily gathered by Da Costa.
Assist Francesco Totti
Goal Mirko Vučinić
GOAL! Totti plays it to Vucinic who steps inside Zauri, before finishing through Da Costa's legs. Only the Montenegrin striker's tenth goal of the season. Hard to believe, looking at that effort.
More great defending as Mannini runs back to cut out Totti's through ball to Vucinic.
The Roma fans, who had started to boo their team once more, cheer on their captain as he chases the Sampdoria back-line, trying to force a mistake. Leading by example.
Laczko delivers another poor cross from the left. Lobont even catches this one...
Taddei tries to cut the ball across the face of goal from the right, but Volta is there once more to scramble it away. Excellent defensive display from Sampdoira.
Just seen Lobont's parrying of the cross again. Looked great in slow-motion. The Roma keeper's motive, perhaps?
Ziegler's deflected cross is worryingly parried by Lobont. Very shaky game from the Romanian 'keeper so far.
Borriello, who has been disappointing all game, picks up Riise's ball into the danger-zone, but fails to control it, and it trickles out for a goal kick.
Ziegler sends a deep cross in. So deep that Mannini collects it on the opposite wing. The Samp goal scorer plays it to Palombo, but the skipper's shot goes well over
Vucinic does well to cut in from the left, and send a shot goal-wards, but once again, Roma fail to make Da Costa work.
Palombo sends in a powerful shot that was blocked by the hosts' defence, while at the other end, Zauri gets to the ball to stop Totti running through.
Totti sends a clever back heel through for Borriello, but Martinez and Zauri squeeze the Roma striker off the ball. Good defending from Sampdoria once more.
Ziegler's tame cross is poorly cleared, but Mannini sends the shot well over under pressure from Riise.
Pizarro sends a ball into the box from a set-piece. Burdisso's header goes wide of Da Costa's goal, but the Argentine was ruled offside anyway.
Yellow Card Massimo Volta
More poor crossing from Sampdoria. Mannini's has the opportunity to send in a ball from the right, but it goes straight into Lobont's hands.
Martinez heads another cross away, but it falls into Riise's path. The Norwegian's first time left foot effort goes well over.
Roma go more direct as Perrotta tries to play a through ball to Borriello, but Da Costa reaches the over-hit pass first.
Samp have a free kick 30 yards from goal, and before Roma can set up a wall, Palombo takes a powerful shot which Lobont parries away.
Roma kick us off for the second half and resume their patient build up play, knocking it about the back. Sampdoria closing down quickly as in the first half.
And that's half time. Roma have dominated, but haven't made Da Costa work - only Totti's goal was on target. Sampdoria have done OK on the break, but the crossing needs improving if they are to strike Roma again - they've given it away all too often from decent positions.
45' + 1'
Sampdoria have a corner with seconds remaining in the first period. Riise heads it away.
We're having one minute of injury time.
Lackzo's crossing leaves a lot to be desired. Again.
We have a break in play as Borriello gets acquainted with Volta's windpipe.
Yellow Card Nicolas Burdisso
Looking at the penalty appeal(s) again, the linesman appears to raise his flag for the handball, but changes his mind. Roma can count themselves very unlikely not to be winning.
Yellow card for Burdisso for a very high foot.
Vucinic has two penalty appeals in the space of 30 seconds. First is for a handball against Volta (stonewall), the second is for Volta bundling him over (also stonewall). No sympathy from the officials.
Lobont comes off his line quickly to claim the ball.
Close to another Roma goal. Totti plays a great cross-field ball. Vucinic brings it down and Riise's trademark shot goes over.
Mannini looks to bag another, but a wildly optimistic effort misses the target by some distance.
Normal service resumed as Roma make themselves at home in their opponents' half.
Assist Simone Perrotta
Goal Francesco Totti
GOAL! The boos don't last long. Totti (who else) scores with a powerful shot across Da Costa's body. Patient play from the Roma captain, before a great finish.
Boos are ringing out around the stadium as Vucinic plays a poor attempt at a through ball, which goes behind for a goal kick.
As it stands, Napoli are winning 1-0 against Juventus, so no need for Roma to worry quite yet. Riise gets the ball in the Samp box, but mis-controls.
Assist Reto Ziegler
Goal Daniele Mannini
If Juventus beat Napoli and this game remains the same, Roma will not be playing European football next year.
GOAL! Completely against the run of play. Ziegler's 25 yard effort is pushed away by Lobont, but Mannini taps it in. More than a hint of offside there, to be honest.
So close for Roma. Loria sends a header narrowly wide from Totti's corner.
Martinez does well to get it away after a Taddei ball across goal could have left his side in trouble. Seconds later, it's Martinez again as he blocks Totti's ball out for a corner.
Sampdoria are camped in their own half. Every time they clear a Roma attack, the hosts pick the ball up and start again. 23 players in the Sampdoria half.
Borriello, rather comically, over-elaborates and gifts Sampdoria a throw in.
Il Capitano hits it straight into the wall. Martinez heads a follow up cross for a corner with Borriello lurking.
Roma have a free-kick in Totti-town, for a handball on the edge of the box against Zauri
Sampdoria cross through Laczko. It's too deep and Riise gets it away easily.
Sampdoria defend with numbers once more, as Martinez stops Borriello from running through.
Totti sends in a cross, but Da Costa claims the ball before Borriello and Vucinic can get to it.
Riise! The Norwegian left back runs down the left, but his 20-yard shot goes a yard wide.
Totti is in the middle of everything. He tries to sneak a clever ball through, but Taddei reads it and cuts it out before Borriello can latch on to it.
Roma have another corner. It fails to clear the first man, but Totti pulls it back to Taddei, whose shot is blocked by the sea of bodies.
TOTTI! Pizzaro chips a ball over the Sampdoria back line, who volleys it with the outside of his boot, but i goes a fraction wide.
Tissone sends a shot well-wide for Sampdoria with a volley from 30 yards.

Roma win an early corner, but Da Costa comes out to claim the ball from Totti's delivery.
The game's started and Sampdoria attack straight from the kick off, but Roma get it under sontrol
