Player Ratings: Juventus 2-2 Chievo

The Old Lady threw away a two-goal lead as the Flying Donkeys ensured Serie A football for another year with a stunning double midway through the second half

  • Gianluigi Buffon

    Gianluigi Buffon

Went wandering when beaten to the ball on the touchline by Pellissier but was lucky not to be punished. He was unfortunate with both goals though, as he was outdone by the woodwork on two occasions.

  • Fabio Grosso

    75
    3.00

    Fabio Grosso

Gallopped forward at times, but had no real end product. His over-adventure twice came close to costing his side on the break.

  • Giorgio Chiellini
    96
    23
    2.50

    Giorgio Chiellini

Ragged on occasion, though he was still the best Juve defender on show again. How he missed from a yard though will be a question even he can't answer.

  • Andrea Barzagli

    Andrea Barzagli

Lost sight of Pellissier too often and was made to pay on the equaliser after falling asleep once more.

  • Marco Motta
    39
    135
    2.50

Marco Motta Flop of the Match

Got plenty of crosses in from the right, but few ever looked like really producing anything. Often slow to react to runs into the channel and left team-mates to do the dirty work.

  • Simone Pepe
    123
    28
    3.00

    Simone Pepe

He may not be the most talented player in the world, but few have more heart and desire. His clumsy overhead effort won a penalty in the first half and his all-action style could have produced more.

  • Claudio Marchisio
    72
    34
    2.50

    Claudio Marchisio

Failed to provide the impact of Felipe Melo's ying to Aquilani's yang as he again got lost at times when Chievo's neat counter-attacking ways caught Juve's midfield out.

  • Alberto Aquilani
    40
    89
    2.50

    Alberto Aquilani

Though he started like a house on fire, he faded later on and Juve eventually began to bypass him as they went for a desperate winner. Poor tackle got him booked too.

  • Milos Krasic
    92
    44
    2.50

    Milos Krasic

Showed a great work ethic, but again his last pass let him down tonight. Should also have done better with a header soon after having scraped the bar with a cross.

  • Alessandro Del Piero
    216
    10
    3.50

    Alessandro Del Piero

For somebody who, at the age of 36, doesn't always get involved in games very often he can sure have an impact. Scored one from the spot then made another with an excellent reverse pass.

  • Alessandro Matri
    147

    3.00

    Alessandro Matri

Looked set to be hauled off seconds before finishing well from Del Piero's pass. Could have scored before then, but as soon as it went 2-2 and Juve went longer he had fewer opportunities to shine.

Substitutions

  • Luca Toni
    87
    19

    Luca Toni

Thrown on to help Juve launch the missiles, but hit the far post with his best effort.

  • Stefano Sorrentino

    Stefano Sorrentino

Couldn't have done any more on either goal, but was left standing as poor finishing saved him. Made a couple of good punches and scrambled saves though.

  • Andrea Mantovani
    9
    10
    3.00

    Andrea Mantovani

Did a decent job up against Krasic, though the Serb and Motta got too many crosses in. He will have been disappointed with the lack of support from Jokic.

  • Bostjan Cesar
    11
    10
    3.00

    Bostjan Cesar

The better of the two centre-halves, he was able to deal with the aerial threat, and his job was made easier once it was 2-2 as Juve went for the high route more often.

  • Marco Andreolli
    11
    10
    3.00

    Marco Andreolli

Why he was booked after the penalty was awarded is anyone's guess. Whether it was for holding Matri or saying something out of turn, he was unable to make up for it when heading wide on the stroke of half-time and then lost Matri as Juve made it 2-2.

  • Gennaro Sardo
    14
    5
    3.00

    Gennaro Sardo

Had a good night, despite Pepe doing ok up against him. Often pushed the ex-Udinese man back by getting forward himself and finished coolly to earn his side a point.

  • Bojan Jokic
    13
    9
    3.00

    Bojan Jokic

Didn't do enough to help out Mantovani as Krasic and Motta doubled up, though he did cause the odd headache for his marker. Could have done better with a first-half chance.

  • Luca Rigoni
    35
    19
    3.50

Luca Rigoni Top of the Match

Tried claiming the first goal, then created another within seconds of the restart. His industry was key to Chievo getting back into it, and he protected his back four as well as anyone on the night.

  • Gelson Fernandes
    11
    8
    3.00

    Gelson Fernandes

Went missing as Juve bossed the first half, but his desire to get into the game helped his troops in the second. Should arguably have bagged Chievo's third in as many minutes when set up by Pellissier. Also cleared Chiellini's effort off the line.

  • Kevin Constant
    9
    11
    3.00

    Kevin Constant

Some of his performances of late have not been in keeping with his form in the first-half of the season. Removed early in the second-half to make way for Uribe.

  • Cyril Thereau
    8
    9
    3.00

    Cyril Thereau

Was only just getting into the game when he landed awkwardly on his wrist as Marchisio pulled him back in full flow late in the first half.

  • Sergio Pellissier
    33
    5
    3.50

    Sergio Pellissier

With Pellissier as your lone striker you always have a chance, and he made enough opportunities for his side to take all three points. His shot off the post led to Sardo's equaliser and Bogliacino should have done better after the skipper had beaten Buffon.

Substitutions

  • Michele Marcolini

    Michele Marcolini

    Late replacement for Jokic.

  • F. Uribe
    14
    14
    2.50

    F. Uribe

Got the last touch on the opening goal of the comeback after replacing Constant and provided more purpose in the Chievo midfield when he was on the ball. Then collected Pellissier's pass with an open goal but couldn't fire home. Should have been a matchwinner.

  • Mariano Bogliacino
    10
    8

    Mariano Bogliacino

Had very little effect after replacing the injured Thereau.
