By Jonathan Mitchell

    Gianluigi Buffon

The Juventus number one kept an important clean sheet and demonstrated sound judgement when he twice raced from his line to thwart Eto'o. He had also earlier made a strong two-handed stop to save a Pazzini header.

  • Giorgio Chiellini
    767
    16
    3.50

    Giorgio Chiellini

You could play Chiellini anywhere and he would give it every ounce of effort he has. Played at left-back and was solid defensively, while he also constantly tried to get forward. Although he looked clumsy on occasions, he still popped up in dangerous positions in good positions to cross.

  • Andrea Barzagli
    636
    22
    3.50

    Andrea Barzagli

A calm and composed defensive performance in which he formed a formidable barrier with Bonucci. His performance was summed up by a fine piece of defending and burst forward deep into injury time.

  • Leonardo Bonucci
    667
    17
    3.50

    Leonardo Bonucci

Was colossal at the back, particularly in the first half as his flawless positioning and cool manner ensured that Pazzini never unduly troubled him or escaped his clutches.

  • Frederik Sorensen
    638
    47
    3.50

    Frederik Sorensen

Put over a fine cross from which Matri scored and used his height to win several aerial duels as Maicon fired over a succession of crosses from the right. But also had a few shaky moments with one short backpass and going missing for Eto'o's late chance.

  • Claudio Marchisio
    539
    30
    3.00

    Claudio Marchisio

A bundle of energy on the left of the Juventus midfield four. Covered every blade of grass and showed superb discipline to tuck in behind Chiellini whenever he burst forward.

  • Felipe Melo
    587
    39
    3.50

    Felipe Melo

A powerful and hardworking performance in the centre of midfield. Never gave Sneijder an inch in which to operate, which often forced him to either drop deep or drift left, thereby limiting his effectiveness.

  • Alberto Aquilani
    521
    46
    3.00

    Alberto Aquilani

Was asked to do more dirty work than he is used to and made a decent fist of it, putting in several strong challenges, while also getting important toes in to nick the ball away from the opposition.

  • Milos Krasic
    509
    73
    3.00

    Milos Krasic

The wide-man gave Zanetti a tough time down the right, and although he never quite took the Argentinian to the cleaners, it was from one of his runs and passes that Sorenson crossed for Matri to score.

  • Luca Toni
    524
    42
    3.00

    Luca Toni

Worked extremely hard for the team and held the ball up well at times, which gave his defence and midfield a much needed rest. Headed wide early on and almost turned provider with a dangerous cross minutes later.

  • Alessandro Matri
    783
    26
    3.50

Alessandro Matri Top of the Match

Scored the all important goal with a fine downward header and almost doubled his and his side's tally with a carbon copy in the second half. Was a constant menace and showed he has no shortage of heart when he played on towards the end with injured ribs.

Substitutions

  • Mohamed Lamine Sissoko
    357
    90
    0.00

    Mohamed Lamine Sissoko

Helped his side close out the game after replacing the injured Melo in the 74th minute.

  • Simone Pepe
    254
    172
    2.50

    Simone Pepe

Didn't have the best of times after he came on, firing over a couple of poor crosses and losing the ball in a dangerous situation. But did put one ball into the centre which Matri swept just wide in the 87th minute.

  • Vincenzo Iaquinta
    268
    195
    2.50

    Vincenzo Iaquinta

Did not offer the same physical presence and hard work that Toni had supplied before him.

  • Julio César
    94
    190
    3.00

    Julio César

Had no chance of saving Matri's accurate headed goal and other than that he actually didn't have a save to make.

  • Javier Zanetti
    113
    176
    3.00

    Javier Zanetti

Played at left-back and looked a little out of sorts as he struggled against Krasic down the right. However, he used his experience to ensure that his opponent was never given an easy time.

  • Andrea Ranocchia
    95
    207
    2.50

    Andrea Ranocchia

Was caught badly out of position when Matri headed a chance inches wide of the upright at the start of the second half. Looked unsteady throughout and was slack in his distribution and often dispossessed while on the ball.

  • Iván Ramiro Córdoba
    79
    221
    2.50

    Iván Ramiro Córdoba

The Colombian actually made a decent start, racing back to sweep the ball of Toni's toes. But it was all downhill after that and he was woeful at Juventus' goal, stepping out late, getting caught under the ball and leaving Matri unmarked in the box all at the same time.

  • Maicon
    124
    203
    3.50

    Maicon

There were glimpses of the Maicon of old as he covered the right flank. Put over a succssion of dangerous crosses, one of which Pazzini headed at Buffon and Eto'o fired against the crossbar. Also made a couple of crucial defensive interceptions.

  • Thiago Motta
    58
    208
    3.00

    Thiago Motta

Anchored the midfield and kept things ticking over with his simple and effective short passes.

  • Esteban Cambiasso
    59
    201
    3.00

    Esteban Cambiasso

Had little or no impact on the game as Melo and Aquilani won the midfield battle.

  • Houssine Kharja
    81
    220
    2.50

    Houssine Kharja

Was replaced by Pandev in the 60th minute after in an hour in which you would be hard pressed to find any sort of contribution from the former Siena star.

  • Wesley Sneijder
    111
    190
    3.00

    Wesley Sneijder

Looked in the mood in the early stages and showed sparks of creativity - flicking a sumptuous pass over the top for Eto'o - but struggled to find a way past a disciplined Juventus side.

  • Giampaolo Pazzini
    85
    216
    3.00

    Giampaolo Pazzini

Sent one wild volley wide and was caught offside more often than Leonardo would have liked in his quietest performance since recently joining Inter. Did have one strong header well saved by Buffon, however.

  • Samuel Eto'o
    176
    338
    2.50

Samuel Eto'o Flop of the Match

Missed an absolute sitter in the 89th minute when he smashed against the crossbar from four yards with the goal at his mercy. Also missed a couple of other decent opportunities in a night to forget.

Substitutions

  • Yuto Nagatomo
    84
    202
    2.50

    Yuto Nagatomo

Replaced Cambiasso and moved to left-back, allowing Zanetti to move into midfield but didn't make much of an impact.

  • Goran Pandev
    120
    215
    2.50

    Goran Pandev

Got the last 30 minutes in place of Kharja but apart from one or two flashes, didn't offer enough.
