Failed to get forward enough down the left flank and was kept busy by Vassiljev’s runs. Cannot be faulted for his commitment at the back after leaving the field with numerous battle scars.

Put in a busy shift in the middle of the park and was relieved of his duties late on as Prandelli looked to close out the result with Angelo Palombo’s muscle in front of the back four.

Orchestrated his side to perfection early on but was made to pay as the Azzurri started to rush things after going a goal behind. The captain turned provider after the break with a pinpoint corner for Antonio Cassano.

Often rushed things at times to the discontent of coach Prandelli on the touchline. Proved his worth in quantity in the middle of the park, but given his nervy performance lacked his regular quality.

The winger was given the chance to roam forward after being utilised in an attacking trident alongside Cassano and Pazzini. Despite his more advanced position he failed to cause the threat his coach was looking for.

Combined well up top alongside Sampdoria strike partner Cassano. Although he failed to get his name on the score sheet, the hitman is clearly the future of the Azzurri front-line.
