Kazakhstan 0-3 Turkey: Guus Hiddink's Men Romp To Victory
It was all rosy for the visitors side tonight ...
By Vasil Kotsev
Turkey started their Euro 2012 qualifying campaign with a bang as they demolished Kazakhstan 3-0. Arda Turan, Hamit Altintop and Nihat Kahveci scored as the visitors recorded a comfortable victory.
The game really kicked into motion around the 20-minute mark when Aleksandr Kislitsyn headed narrowly wide of the left post from the penalty box, following a corner by Andrey Karpovich on the left.
The visitors then showed why they were so favoured before the game with a two-minute double salvo. First in the 24th minute Arda Turan pounced on a rebound near the goal line after an exquisite header by Omer Erdogan from the right-hand side of the penalty area hit the left post to score the first of the night. Moments later Hamit Altintop scored what might be the goal of this young qualifying round with an audacious volley from just inside the penalty area.
The second half saw the hosts try to mount a comeback, but they were ultimately unable to, despite good efforts from Nurbol Zhumaskaliyev and Azat Nurgaliev. Turkey managed to score a third goal fifteen minutes from time when Nihat Kahveci received a gorgeous through-ball from Turan in the penalty area, rounded Andrey Sidelnikov and slotted in with a precise finish.
The last chance of the game fell to substitute Halil Altintop in the dying minutes of the game, but the striker failed to find the net from near the penalty spot after waltzing through Kazakhstan's defence and the match ended with Turkey winning by three goals.
