    José Reina Paez

After having nothing to do in the opening 45 minutes, picked the ball out of the back of his net twice after the break. Unconvincing under the corner that lead to Distin's headed goal as he chose to stay on his line.

    Martin Kelly

Flattened in the build-up to Everton's controversial second goal, much to the anger of the Liverpool players and supporters. Generally solid performance and showed his quality with a wonderful surging run in the first half had Anfield on its feet.

Martin Skrtel Flop of the Match

Lost Distin and the ball as Everton equalised just 43 seconds after the break and was then exposed as Beckford put the visitors ahead. Can look imperious at times but is also vulnerable and too prone to errors.

  • Daniel Agger

    Daniel Agger

Almost completely untroubled by the Everton forwards in a comfortable first half display before he was replaced by Kyrgiakos at half-time due to injury.

  • Glen Johnson

    Glen Johnson

Again selected in an unfamiliar left-back role but defended well against Coleman and his attacking threat showed with strong run and cross in build-up to the opener. Tried to keep out Distin's equaliser on the line but the ball found the net via the woodwork.

  • Raúl Meireles

    Raúl Meireles

Not a bad game for the Portuguese midfielder to score his first Liverpool goal as he lashed home a tremendous effort to give the hosts the lead. Time and again stormed forward to support Torres and his passing was always accurate.

  • Jay Spearing

    Jay Spearing

The youngster was a surprise inclusion in the side but kept Liverpool compact in central midfield. Nervous start as he gave away a sloppy pass but grew into the game and certainly did not look out of place despite the derby occasion.

  • Lucas Leiva
    75

    3.00

    Lucas Leiva

Energetic display at the heart of the hosts' midfield. Tidy passing when given time on the ball but struggled against Fellaini as Everton came back into the game.

  • Dirk Kuyt
    121
    21
    3.50

    Dirk Kuyt

Hardworking as ever as he switched between a central and wide role, linking up well with Torres and Meireles. Played his part in the opening goal as he was twice denied by Howard following dangerous efforts and then converted the second from the spot.

  • Maxi Rodríguez
    82
    31
    3.00

    Maxi Rodríguez

Offered useful width on the left side and crept into the box with late runs the Everton defenders failed to pick up. Won penalty as he went down under challenge from Howard and himself skied over a good chance just before half-time.

  • Fernando Torres
    281
    16
    3.50

    Fernando Torres

Is this the game when he finally re-awoke? Snapshot in the opening minute was the sign of things to come and he could have had three before half-time, including one shot that it the post after a fine show of strength and desire. Ran the channels, challenged for the 50-50s and looked 10 per cent sharper than in any other game this season. Deserved a goal but it didn't come.

    Sotirios Kyrgiakos

Replaced Agger at half-time and Liverpool's defending looked far less convincing in the second half. Won some important headers late on as Everton launched the ball into the box.

  • Jonjo Shelvey
    72
    17
    3.00

    Jonjo Shelvey

Replaced Meireles 10 minutes from time. Looked busy but no real opportunities to have an impact on the game.

  • Tim Howard
    28
    21
    3.50

    Tim Howard

Gave away second half penalty with a clumsy challenge on Maxi and can have no argument with the decision. Clouded an otherwise impressive afternoon for the American as he made fine diving saves to deny Torres, Kuyt and Meireles.

  • Phil Neville
    13
    18
    3.00

    Phil Neville

Abused by the home fans and had a tough first half as Liverpool piled forwards - but he leadership qualities and experience were vital after the break.

  • John Heitinga

    2.50

    John Heitinga

The Dutchman was solid attacking the ball and fronting up Torres but looked slugglish and off the pace when he was turned towards his own goal

  • Sylvain Distin
    16
    18
    3.00

    Sylvain Distin

Horribly exposed in the first half and Kuyt, Torres and Meireles all ran into space he should have been covering. Responded in the best possible manner by heading home the equaliser seconds into the second half.

  • Leighton Baines
    12
    17
    3.00

    Leighton Baines

Has been in fine form this season but looked shaky defensively as Liverpool players ran from deep in the first half. Clearly given instructions to attack more after the break and was vastly improved.

  • Seamus Coleman
    13
    17
    3.00

    Seamus Coleman

The Irishman's head-down style may be unconventional but he can be seriously effective. Had an intriguing battle with Johnson and demonstrated unquestionable workrate and stamina.

  • Marouane Fellaini

Marouane Fellaini Top of the Match

The Belgian's power and strength were too much for Liverpool to handle at times. He crashed into tackles, shrugged off challenges and went on surging runs in a very convincing performance for the visitors.

  • Mikel Arteta
    31
    21
    3.50

    Mikel Arteta

At the hub of most of Everton's good work in the second half as he picked the ball up in space and played tidy, accurate passes to keep the visitors ticking over. Also dangerous from set-pieces and his corner provided the assist for Distin's equaliser.

  • Leon Osman
    15
    19
    3.00

    Leon Osman

Almost anonymous in the first half but - like almost all his team-mates - looked a different player after the break. Neat link-up play, hard work and a lovely assist for Beckford's goal as he quickly turned the ball into the frontman's path.

  • Jermaine Beckford
    23
    18
    3.00

    Jermaine Beckford

Confident turn and finish rewarded a performance full of energy as he raced across the frontline throughout the 73 minutes he was on the pitch before being replaced by Vaughan.

  • Victor Anichebe
    15
    18
    3.00

    Victor Anichebe

His size was a useful asset and allowed Everton to play long balls for him to hold up or flick on. Looked dangerous with a couple of potshots on goal but faded in the second half as was replaced nine minutes from time.

The Russian came on for the final nine minutes and his fresh legs looked like they could help Everton on the counter-attack.

Replaced Beckford in the 73rd minute but was well shackled by the home defenders.
