Serie A Preview: Bologna - Milan

The Rossoneri will be favourites to maintain pole position...

Unbeaten Home Run

Bologna are gradually pulling themselves out of the reach of the relegation demon and are currently stationed in 13th place with 19 points from 15 matches. Midweek's 2-1 victory over Chievo in a rearranged fixture lifted the Felsinei a robust seven points above the dropzone.

It was also Alberto Malesani's side's fourth league triumph at the Stadio Renato Dall'Ara this campaign and maintained their unbeaten home run. The win was also the Rossoblu's third successive in all competitions and five in seven matches. Marco Di Vaio's resurgence has been one of the main reasons for their turnaround in fortunes and against Milan they will be keen to pick up a point at least.

Encouragingly, Bologna do have a good record against Italy's big boys at home this season as they have held Inter, Sampdoria and Juventus to draws at the Renato Dall'Ara. Having conceded just thrice in seven matches in front of the home supporters, Bologna will be confident of pushing Milan.

Running Away With The Title

The 2-0 defeat to Ajax in the Champions League in midweek was Milan's first in nine competitive fixtures and punctured their momentum, but reading too much into this home loss will be a mistake. The Rossoneri had already booked their place in the second round of Europe's premier club competition and it was a meaningless encounter for them.

At the weekend Massimiliano Allegri's side will be looking to return to winning ways and extend their six-match unbeaten run in Serie A. Currently perched on pole position in the Italian top flight with 33 points from 15 points, Milan are going great guns in the league, and with Lazio playing against fellow Scudetto challengers Juventus, they will have the chance to further stretch their advantage.

Milan have an encouraging away record too in the championship as they have won four of the seven games on the road, conceding just seven goals in the process. The former Italian and European champions have not failed to score in their last 11 competitive fixtures and have the league's joint best defensive record, having shipped in 12 goals.

TEAM NEWS

Bologna

Perez and Mutarelli are out injured. Di Vaio and Gimenez will be the two strikers in a 4-3-1-2 formation.

Milan

Pato, Inzaghi and Oduamadi remain on the sidelines, and now Flamini and Thiago Silva have joined them. Allegri will deploy a 4-3-1-2 formation that will have Seedorf enacting the role of the playmaker behind Ibrahimovic and Robinho. Yepes will replace Thiago Silva at the heart of the Milan defence.

Di Vaio inspired Bologna to a 2-1 victory over Chievo in midweek as he scored a late winner against the Flying Donkeys, and the veteran Italian striker will be their main player against Milan too. The Rossoneri's full-backs have proved the weaklinks in defence and the former Juventus hitman will be looking to exploit that.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Zlatan Ibrahimovic will again be Milan's man to watch and will start upfront. The Sweden international striker has been in breathtaking form for the Rossoneri so far this campaign and his silky touches, quicksilver intelligence and ability to hold the ball up all will come into good use against Bologna.

Prediction
Bologna should target a draw against Milan as a win will be hugely difficult. Milan are on a roll in Serie A and they will be firm favourites to pick up a win in Bologna too.
